For the last however long, I have read threads and posts by Remainers stating confidently that the Prime Minister wanted a No Deal, would get a No Deal. Here are just a few quotes. Some Remainers may recognise their own predictions:

'He is going to give us No Deal and then fuck off into the sunset with millons in bungs from his crooked mates,'

'I'm pretty certain on no deal...'

'I fully expect a No Deal Brexit.'

'Bojo will 'deliver' no deal and then F off into the sunset'

'Boris Johnson and your disingenuous divs - How dare you try and spin a NoDeal'

'He was elected to not get a deal and to make his supporters feel good about the fact the had stuck it to the man (or something).'

There are lots more if you want them.

Now he has obtained a deal, where are all the threads by remainers? Do any have the the guts to hold up their hand up and say 'I was wrong'?

Have my very first Biscuit

You sound like my narc mother who remembers everything in minute detail so she can throw it back in your face later.

Yes there is a deal but you’re STILL worse off not being in the EU Hmm

jasjas1973 · 25/12/2020 20:16

Flip flopped between believing we were heading for no-deal and deal... opinions are based on news media, i doubt any of us know Barnier or Frost.

Its not a game OP, mightily relieved we've a deal as so far, it looks like we are a lot closer to the EU than i first thought, even got EHIC :)

Though i do fear, we may have ended up with the worst of both worlds.

Peregrina · 25/12/2020 20:20

I am not sure we still exactly have EHIC - the devil will be in the detail.

akerman · 25/12/2020 20:27

I’d be very happy to get something like EHIC.
I’m going to take a long time to forgive Erasmus though.

jasjas1973 · 25/12/2020 20:46

I believe EHIC will be honoured until your present card expires and the plan is to have a replacement after that.

Now given the EU will want their citizens to have free healthcare and vice versa, plus the pressures on tourism post CV, i think we'll get something pretty close.

I also hope that Erasmus will continue in some form or other, just written to my MP asking for him to campaign for this, he has always argued that Cornish students don't have the opportunities they should ... he is a brexitier!

Gronky · 25/12/2020 20:52

@nosswith

Cod catches.

EU fisherman in 2019- 47%
EU fisherman in 2026- 43%

Looks like a last minute cave-in to me.

Isn't that a somewhat misleading figure, considering the majority of cod catches come from the Barents Sea? Cod in 2018 made up only 3.6% of the gross tonnage and 7.4% of the total value of seafood catches within UK waters.
akerman · 25/12/2020 20:56

I fear he’ll tout the Turing scheme that they are setting up jasjas. It’s better than nothing, but the whole point about Erasmus is reciprocity and exchange. One flouncing nation setting up its own scheme doesn’t come close. I’m also fearful that they are going to target anglophone countries at the expense of encouraging language learning.

MarshaBradyo · 25/12/2020 20:58

I voted remain but questioned whether he really wanted a no deal. Posted on here wondering how people knew he did.

Anyway I’m glad there’s a deal.

bornatXmastobequiet · 25/12/2020 21:53

North Sea Cod

On North Sea cod, for example, in 2021 - the EU is allocated a 47.03% share, the UK 52.97.
By 2026, this share changes to EU 43%, UK 57%.

jasjas1973 · 25/12/2020 22:00

Lol! so it will take 5 years to get 25% of our quota back? wow wee!

then negotiations after that? in which the EU can impose import tariffs on fish sold into the EU.

tribpot · 25/12/2020 22:01

No, EHIC is not applicable from 1 Jan 2021 for most citizens, details here: www.gov.uk/guidance/uk-residents-visiting-the-eueea-and-switzerland-healthcare

We will need the same level of travel insurance as we previously needed for non-EU travel.

Gronky · 25/12/2020 22:06

Thank you, bornatXmastobequiet, apparently, 94% of the cod sold in the UK comes from 'Iceland or the far larger Barents Sea population':

Peregrina · 25/12/2020 22:10

I voted remain but questioned whether he really wanted a no deal. Posted on here wondering how people knew he did.

I imagine that he was genuinely torn - he would have liked to have kept in with his Hedge fund backers, but then the snarl up at Dover happened, and he knew that the populace could quickly turn against him.

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I'm a die hard remainer, and I fully realise that the deal we have now is worse than what we had and I'm convinced Brexit was a folie, but some threads and posts have been really uncalled for. There were so many of "Hope we get no deal so people suffer" and "We deserve everything we get" and so much idolising of the EU it was ridiculous.

I'm convinced many just wanted their "Told you so" moment.

This. I too am a staunch remainer.
Splodgetastic · 25/12/2020 22:15

I wish everyone would shut up about Brexit already.

bornatXmastobequiet · 25/12/2020 22:20

Yes, the North Sea cod stocks are small and the fishery has been on a knife edge for some years now.

Pathetic.

Many people realised that the "no deal" stuff was just posturing and predicted that Boris would pull a deal out at Christmas so he can look like the hero he so desperately wants to be. So no, I wasn't wrong. However when in five years time our GDP growth is significantly lower than it should be, will you say you were?

Doubt it Biscuit

No chance. It'll go on for ages yet!
Peregrina · 25/12/2020 22:33

I wish everyone would shut up about Brexit already.

Don't look at the threads then.

lljkk · 25/12/2020 22:33

I think I expected last minute lots of side deals but not a broad deal.
We didn't get that so I was wrong.

R U Happy, OP?
I think I'm happy to be wrong, too.
Not as happy as I'd be if Brexgetters had marched in the streets to say they were fooled, but lots of things I want I don't get in life.

Theworldisfullofgs · 25/12/2020 22:35

A: its Christmas and I've got better things to do.

B: its better than no deal but only just.

C: no erasmus has scuppered my daughter's plans.

D: its a pretty shot deal that does not take account of services which is the majority of the economy and is so full of red tape that it's going to cost £££

E: what a waste of four years consumed with something unnecessary that has as a result promoted completely inept politicians famed for loyalty and no talent. Just what we needed in a pandemic.

Therefore what is there to celebrate?

Theworldisfullofgs · 25/12/2020 22:36

*shit

Theworldisfullofgs · 25/12/2020 22:38

By the way we are now stuck negotiating for ever and ever and ever because that is how the deal is structured.

akerman · 25/12/2020 22:46

If your daughter planning to study languages the worldisfull, don’t despair. Lots of universities have been setting up their own arrangements.

RedToothBrush · 25/12/2020 22:47

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

No one has to be.

Then again, no one likes a gloater.

I don't post to be popular.

As I say, you seem to like chips.
