Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

PMK with a wake me up when it's all over... But I am v v sad about the Dems not taking Senate. That would have made the real difference.

From the FT: “Even with a Biden win, the clean energy revolution is at best delayed because the Democrats failed to add seats in the House or win control of the Senate,” said Dan Eberhart, head of oilfield services company Canary and a prominent supporter of Donald Trump.

And no chance of real change such as AOC's GND...

FlouncingBabooshka · 05/11/2020 22:22

Amusingly, one of the CNN pundits has just pointed out Trump is still tweeting ‘Stop the count’ even though if they did stop the count now Biden would take Arizona and Nevada and would therefore be President.

ListeningQuietly · 05/11/2020 22:24

I just watched the clip of Biden urging calm.
He looks very tired (funny that)
but if he wins he'll appoint a good team
which will be good for the planet.

HateIsNotGood · 05/11/2020 22:30

I think the UK will 'give' a bit on Fishing. Don't bet your dollars on a Biden win overturning Brexit on a GFA basis - Noraid is quashed and despite any Irish Granny Claims, very few Americans favour a Nation State as being subservient to a greater power.

If Biden wins, no problem, If Trump wins, just show him round some UK Farms and stuff a decent UK Steak down his face, same with fish and he'll see the difference, Actually if Trump loses that's more likely.

Really the US of A has far more on their plate than the little ol' UK.

ListeningQuietly · 05/11/2020 22:33

Indeed.
It will be at the back of the queue for a trade deal
as a previous President said Grin

Very grateful, if weary, PMK. But the Fortean Times cover tickled me!

HateIsNotGood · 05/11/2020 22:45

No probs there - rather leave them to it and us this side of the Atlantic doing ours - good to hear from you LQ and methinks you may have re-jigged your business so you're still in the game.

My favourite 'laugh' is when Connery as 007 said "an Actor for President, Never". Afterwards Reagan (an Actor fyi) became President.

I'm sure there's nothing in it, just one of those things.

Laughs all round and Tea....

RedToothBrush · 05/11/2020 22:55

President Trump is not planning to throw in the towel simply because Joe Biden declares victory, CBS reports, quoting a senior Trump campaign official.

“In a free and fair election, the president will win,” CBS quotes the official as saying.

Ah. Yes.

Trump to speak to the press at 11.30pm UK time.

Thx RTB I'll watch. Does it matter to Brexit who wins the US Election?

prettybird · 05/11/2020 23:00

We're "enjoying" not quite the right word Wink the US TV coverage while redecorating our living room, changing the walls from orange to teal, after having our new central heating put in. It's helping to pass the time and reduce the stress Grin

Surely we are a soverign nation who make our own decisions without interference from other countries...

...The school of thought is that Biden will make it harder, but its very much us who are making our own life difficult atm...

What channel if I can face watching Trump?

HateIsNotGood · 05/11/2020 23:10

pretty you know there's a separate Board for DIY? Meanwhile I'm off to stare at the TV in the vain hope that someone has actually counted some US election votes. throws self on sofa staring in despair at the telly

HateIsNotGood · 05/11/2020 23:12

Ta RTB - most probably we are and seems the US of A are doing it to themselves too. Gotta go Sofa+TV awaits.

prettybird · 05/11/2020 23:21

That article by Rory Stewart about BJ was a brilliant and excoriating takedown of the buffoon.

It could also have been a description of the Orange One - with the major exception of the intelligence and wide vocabulary Wink

PMK thanks for the thread Red must admit I’m more likely to look here to see what’s going on than the news.

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 00:14

Well it seems that Trump is planning to leave the white house in exactly the way I envisioned several years ago...

He is president until January.

Has anyone else just watched Trump speaking.

It was utterly terrifying.

Lie after lie after lie.

So incendiary.

He knows he’s losing and is trying to tear the democratic process down with him.

I’m very fearful of what is to come.

RedToothBrush · 06/11/2020 00:22

Also, you all know that our foreign secretary is rather convienantly currently self isolating...

Impeccable timing that one.

I haven’t been on the thread for a long time Red so, whilst I was expecting something like this, I’m taken aback by the scale of it.

I said to DH over dinner that, because Trump hates ‘losers’ then he can’t lose the election, he can only win or have it stolen from him, especially because a one term president is an epic scale loser.

The CNN anchor has just said more or less the same thing. She also described how Trump has set this up for months - by telling his supporters not to vote by post so that he can cry cheat when the postal votes go against him.

Apologies if you’ve been saying this for months - I’ve been away.

FlouncingBabooshka · 06/11/2020 00:42

To be a fly on the wall in the Trump camp now.

It must be like Downfall.
