Just waiting.

Talks between Frost and Barnier still unresolved issues. There are rumours but 'all without evidence' (the new in phrase on BBC news tonight) that the UK is waivering.

Less that two months to go.

And there is the small matter of what happens in the US than might influence events.

What a beautiful morning!

May I ask a quick question of you knowledgable lot? Re the most recent government u-turn. Given that there was a vote in Parliament in which the majority voted against free school meals during holidays - how can the Government now decide to ignore the vote? Had the vote gone the other way, could they have ignored that outcome too? I'm sure I'm missing something and I am very pleased at the u-turn!

TheElementsOfMedical · 08/11/2020 09:26

I'm delighted if Farage has indeed lost £10K betting on Trump, so thanks for the good news (if true!) Clavi Grin

HoldingTight · 08/11/2020 09:28

@WorriedMutha

Is there any chance BCF could be persuaded back to these threads. There's sure to be a meltdown in the Brexit camp and she may as well enjoy it with the rest of us. I miss her insight, measured commentary and attention to detail.
I would also really value her insight at this time. Please come back BCF!
HesterThrale · 08/11/2020 09:38

I got a laugh out of this. Trump’s big press conference - unexpected venue:

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/nov/08/the-other-four-seasons-trump-team-holds-press-conference-at-suburban-garden-centre

prettybird · 08/11/2020 09:43

Dh has suggested that the Four Seasons Landscaping venue should be the location for Trump's Presidential Library Grin

Which then leads on to the further consideration: what should be in it? Crayons, sharpies, colouring in books and lots and lots of books about Trump "This is me" written in big font and/or capital letters Wink

TheElementsOfMedical · 08/11/2020 09:55

I really did enjoy the Four Seasons Total Landscaping debacle Grin

(P.S. Please come back BCF!)

Very impressive speech by Kamala Harris.

If you think Joe hates him, you should hear Kamala

She looks up to - and took a lot of advice from her grandfather in Chennai. I'm sure she has heard lots of stories about how the British ran India ....

SabrinaThwaite · 08/11/2020 10:36

This is from Obama’s former spokesman.

Ugh...the comments under the Douglas Murray piece in the Mail are so anti-Irish. It's frightening that people in Britain today still can have that oppressor mindset towards Ireland. That they can hate that someone might care about Ireland before Britain.

I usually like Murray's articles but don't agree with him here at all. Trump is no one's friend but his own.

EU UK negotiations over the next few weeks are going to be worth watching.

I'll message BCF but I know that she is enjoying her break from politics and data.
Once the weather turns cold she might be more willing to get back to her screen Grin

DGRossetti · 08/11/2020 11:14

I hope Brexiteer Tories have a good stock of spirits in. Reading across the world, I don't think there's any rush in the US of 2021 to engage with Boris Johnson more than necessary. And certainly not to help him prop up Brexit.

And it seems Boris casual racism has cost him dear.

I doubt there will be too many. At some point, a deal has been sketched out. It won't be a great one for the UK, because there's no deal in the world that could better what we had as EU members. But it will be a deal, and we can all move on.

There are no fairytale endings, but hopefully Farage has had his guns spiked too. As Donnie himself would say No one likes a loser

Nigel Farage was interviewed on LBC earlier this morning - he seems to think that Donald Trump will run for President again in four years time. Grin

I doubt it. He'll be a private citizen and subject to the increasing checks social media companies are introducing to either drain the swamp, or moderate debate (delete as applicable).

I suspect history will regard Trump as the first - and hopefully last - "Twitter POTUS".

Also, it would be interesting to speculate how a 2024 Trump campaign could run against a campaign to re-elect President Harris ? How will a loser racist misogynist possibly manage to campaign against a successsful black woman ?

DGRossetti · 08/11/2020 12:10

But he also though Trump would win this election. Not quite sure what value his opinion has. Unless it's cheaper than paying for royalties on broadcast music ?

My joy this morning is somewhat tarnished by the fact that everywhere I go ont’internet I am having ads for this pushed at me. He must have spent more than £10k on advertising and he’s using rhetoric honed by Brexit campaigns like “Take back control” He’s now gone full scam artist on those gullible enough to have supported him? I do hope that the FCA is breathing down his neck

Mind you an article on SNL on the Huffpost Facebook page might not be the best place for him to go fishing for mugs 😂

He nearly won - he had you worried.

That could be a case of mal-gorithms at work. You really can't begin to imagine how shit "AI" is, unless you've worked in it.

Something somewhere has picked up "Farage" as trending, and has decided to pump adverts based on it ...

"Nearly won" ? Is that a new measure for Brexiteers ?

How about he lost - get over it ?

Again.

ListeningQuietly · 08/11/2020 12:27

Farage will be persona non grata at the US border after Jan 20th

Trump will only be free to run in 2024 if he's not in prison - a presidential pardon will not protect him from stuff that has nothing to do with the office.

Lets just remember that Biden got more voted than any other presidential candidate
more people voted for Brexit than anything else
Biden's lead may yet climb as counting does not finish for a few weeks yet.

Trump lost.
He's fired.

Now Johnson has to find a way to talk to Biden's team
while hoping that Barnier's are not laughing too loudly.
