The next few weeks are crucial. Eu talks, covid handling, the US election and any other unexpected events (its nearly November, lets face it will probably be the weather).

It feels a little like the car crash in slow motion is about to hit the wall of reality. I guess that just means all there is left to do is to brace for impact.

My Brexiteer FIL is starting to realise what's happening. Of course it's not that Brexit is a bad idea, it's just that the politicians have cocked it up. But still, at least he's seeing the very real negative effects now.

Morning all, Interesting letter from the NRG.
I noticed Edward Timpson was absent (Eddisbury/Cheshire). He's only got back into Westminster because they sacked Antoinette Sandbach and Crewe and Nantwich had previously told him to sling his hook
He's still representing quite a challenging constituency which includes Winsford which is quite a poor area.

Apparently the names 50 Tory MPs have been put to the letter but 14 are redacted.

I guess Graham Brady is still playing loyal Tory but bitching behind the scenes still. If there are 50 Tory MPs from the north then you are going to find it hard to name one who hasn't supported this letter...

I'm just quietly working on my Brexit stockpile and DD2 and I are going Christmas shopping on Thursday, while we still can.

Our town's Facebook page, which is normally very Tory loyal, has a very different tone these days. There's pockets of poverty here, and the school meals fiasco has gone down like a bucket of cold sick.

£700millions spent with nothing to show and paying companies that sometimes don’t even exist (as far as I’m concerned a dormant company isn’t a company as such....).
I’m happy to see that coming out - and it’s just about ONE type of PPE! - but I’m totally disgusted by how a government can even think of misusing tax payers money in the middle of a pandemic and in things such as PPE.

Anyone know whats happening in Leige and Belgium with covid generally?

I am reading reports the health system is close to collapse with assymptomatic covid positive staff being asked to keep working in Leige due to the sheer number of cases. The government has asked the Netherlands for assistance but they have refused to help because they too are overloaded and already sending patients to Germany.

Belgium has more icu beds (and staff) per head if population than the UK.

It does not bode well.

News from Belgium does not bode well does it. Especially as every time you think things can’t get worse, and the government can’t make it even worse, they do.

I think the Bottom line is that they are overwhelmed. Maybe because there are more cases. Or maybe because they rules on who to bring into hospital were slacker than in April. Who knows.....

This is happening in France too.

France is much bigger with a well funded healthcare system, but the seams are starting to creak in some areas. We are already transporting patients from the hardest hit areas to the less hit (eg from St Étienne to Rennes). Belgium and the Netherlands are much smaller so territorial differences in covid incidence are much smaller and there is less opportunity to move patients out of hotspots.

Well indeed. His business involves imports arriving in UK from EU.

I have stocked up period products today (well, even more than usual). I do not fancy an argument in my local supermarket.
