"we take their chlorinated chicken"

and now their cancerous chicken with tumours trimmed off Confused

Sadly enough people will be forced to buy the stuff if it's cheap and it's all they can afford. Welcome to the 1930s folks or the Victorian era where there were some haves and an awful lot of have nots.

This really makes me sad - things we fought for to improve the quality of life for people all being thrown away, so that a few moneyed people can have more.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 31/08/2020 23:29

The only time a country has voted to negotiate to loosen its ties with its neighbours (a customer base of around 500m people).

Contrast with developments in the ME - the first flight from Israel to the UAE took place today.

And contrast with the Tory party view on any part of the UK getting the chance to vote on whether to loosen its ties with its nearest neighbour.

Talk about Doublespeak. Sad

mathanxiety · 01/09/2020 04:35

@Clavinova

I take it from your continued attempt at distraction by means of faux outrage that you prefer not to address the factual reports from publications directly connected to healthcare workers on the lack of PPE.

mathanxiety · 01/09/2020 04:39

Do you not think it is better to be moving forward?

Does that not depend on the destination?

mathanxiety · 01/09/2020 05:08

My mistake, I was under the impression that she was using an ad hominem attack on me with this comment;

"I am wondering what is an acceptable death toll from covid for healthcare workers, in your opinion."

@Clavinova
I asked because you chose to split hairs instead of engaging with the facts wrt deaths of healthcare workers. Dismissing concerns on spurious grounds - are we talking about nurses or home health workers, to paraphrase - begs many questions.

Why not just accept that there have been very valid concerns about extraordinary lack of PPE for staff working in healthcare, both in direct medical provision and in auxiliary services?

As a paramedic in England, I’m shocked at assaults on ambulance staff during Covid

Shocking Sad and disgraceful

https://www.theguardian.com/society/2020/sep/01/as-a-paramedic-in-england-im-shocked-at-assaults-on-ambulance-staff-during-covid

When patients pulled down their masks to cough on us, or came close to shout at us, or refused to wear a mask at all,
it added an extra element of conflict to what were already anxious times.

Alongside the rainbows and clapping, you might hope that abuse of emergency workers would have decreased – but initial reportss suggest the opposite was the case.^

“They’re not attacking you; they’re attacking the uniform.”
< WHY ? >

AuldAlliance · 01/09/2020 13:33

DS2 started collège today. Mask all day long, and they are now obligatory in the centre of our small town, as it has over 9000 inhabitants.

Still no word on how we are supposed to teach...next Monday. Anger growing in my faculty.

I had a serology test today and have no CV antibodies whatsoever.

Peregrina · 01/09/2020 13:38

Grandson also started school in France, but he's an infant, so no masks for them.

ListeningQuietly · 01/09/2020 14:02

In the background I can hear a zoom conference of educators from all over the UK
the frustration and confusion and anger is palpable.
They all know that the kids who most need education have lost the most
and those who most need clear support and guidance on staying healthy have not received it

so sad

borntobequiet · 01/09/2020 14:20

As the Remoaners we night get mistaken for the Ramones, which would make us seem quite cool. (Are the Ramones still cool?)

TatianaBis · 01/09/2020 14:27

You have a to be middle-aged to know who the Ramones are.

prettybird · 01/09/2020 14:36

I was just going to say you're showing your age there Grin but TatianaBis got in ahead of me Wink

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 14:46

EveN so. Still cool.Like David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix. Eternally cool

SabrinaThwaite · 01/09/2020 15:08

So cool that the Blitzkrieg Bop now sells fridge freezers Smile

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 15:32

Oo. I missed that. Need a new fridge freezer.what make?

Zebracat · 01/09/2020 15:36

Also. I’m not sure they were ever cool. My husband likes them alongside folk dancing and railway enthusiasm. Best ask for my post to be deleted.

ListeningQuietly · 01/09/2020 15:48

Another closet Ramones fan here Wink

Mistigri · 01/09/2020 16:04

*Still no word on how we are supposed to teach...next Monday. Anger growing in my faculty.
*
Students moaning about my DD's faculty all over social media. With some justification as they have no information except that classes are 100% in person. With most students being assessed partly by continuous assessment, and rules that if you miss a test you get zero, no one is going to quarantine or stay off sick.

My son's engineering school seems to be relatively organised in comparison (but they only have about 250 students per year group).

To say that I am very pessimistic about the prospects for this semester would be an understatement.

AuldAlliance · 01/09/2020 16:08

Our students have apparently set up a FB page with a petition demanding no on-campus teaching, but I have no idea what proportion of students that is.
I'm just angry we had no plan in place in June.
Many other unis in France did... We have 300 in first year in English alone, 15000 on my campus. Sleepwalking into a nightmare cluster.

I have 40 students per class, in tiny rooms. No way I can have them all in class and have any kind of SD. But I can't be in class and online at the same time.

ListeningQuietly · 01/09/2020 16:16

Some Unis have not planned.
Others seem to be totally up together.
DS get daily emails from his Uni telling him what will be happening, how they will do Freshers, how they will do accommodation, how they will do teaching.
I'm very impressed and he's looking forward to the start of term.

BigChocFrenzy · 01/09/2020 16:16

"I had a serology test today and have no CV antibodies whatsoever"

Auld Did you have COVID and the antibodies disappeared, or are you one of the large majority who haven't had it ?

borntobequiet · 01/09/2020 17:03

Ah well I see I’m an official old gimmer. But perhaps a cool-ish one. Maybe that’s why I have to wear bedsocks of a chilly night.

QueenOfThorns · 01/09/2020 17:10

@borntobequiet

As the Remoaners we night get mistaken for the Ramones, which would make us seem quite cool. (Are the Ramones still cool?)
No wonder it rang a bell Grin They seemed to be quite cool a few years back because there were Ramones t-shirts everywhere. Although I doubt most of the people wearing them had a clue who they were!
