Westminstenders: Magical Thinking

This week has seen reports of the government editing footage of Johnson to avoid embarrassing questions about the early government response.

We've been asked to accept that the rules were different to what we were told to excuse the law breaking behaviour of a senior government advisor. As Johnson said he was being a responsible father (as if Johnson knows what this is) and it wasn't as if he was visiting a lover (this Johnson would know all about). Let's be honest Johnson is the master of brazening out controversy.

We also have the ERG complaining they were lied to by Gove about the new Withdrawal Agreement and the border in the Irish Sea which surprises precisely no one else.

They appear to be a little upset by the Cummings debarkable too.

Is there no normal 5pm briefing today?

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/05/2020 17:00

With a couple of exceptions, the committee is doing a pretty good job of skewering the duplicitous, squirming bastard.

Choux · 27/05/2020 17:01

I heard him say that @Sostenueto and shouted at my screen that he should be setting the targets for others and then announcing them.

Forbidden from talking about them. Is he just Don's spokesperson then?

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/05/2020 17:02

Update is supposed to be at 5.30pm

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:06

Anyone else having waffles for tea tonight?

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:10

If that bastard puts his arms around me I'd knee him in the danglys.
Answer the fucking questions you stupid little man.

Choux · 27/05/2020 17:14

Does he have note that he is referring up? Looks like he is reading and that someone is over to his right.

Disappointing that he just answered a question on women with a defeatist 'what more can I say?' Or similar.

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:16

I thought he'd got an earpiece linked to Dom...

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:19

Someone is sitting to his right.

He's looking for congratulations from for answering a question!

Laaf80 · 27/05/2020 17:20

I thought cheating men were expert liars?

BJ is letting that side down.

Sostenueto · 27/05/2020 17:20

Well you have all succeeded in making me laugh which I haven't done for a long time thank you one and all!

DGRossetti · 27/05/2020 17:21

@pussycatinboots

I thought he'd got an earpiece linked to Dom...
pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:25

Ah, ok, so he has go an earpiece linked to Dom!
Ta.

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:30

Blaming the science for not locking down borders earlier.
What a clever PM he is. 🤬

He'd have been more productive standing up and doing Carries ironing while he was blustering his way through this committee.

AuldAlliance · 27/05/2020 17:31

I thought the erms and ums and ahs were to allow him to read what Dom was texting as he goes along.

He is really poor at this.

OldLace · 27/05/2020 17:31

Hmmm, my exH has had a reply from his MP
The reply was sent to a joint email address that he still uses (I don't but have access still). He had opened it to read it, so I could too ;)
It included exH's email TO the MP. It was all in shouty-caps and he'd spelled Cummings name wrongly ('COMINIC CUMMINGS') :)
Tbf, he IS Dyslexic and the rest of it was fine, if slightly ranty. I am no fan, but I 'm glad he made the effort, for him it was a really big thing as he voted Tory and Yes to Brexit.
The MP's reply said:
'thank you for emailing about this very serious matter. I understand many in the country are frustrated ... blah blah...
I share that frustration and want us to put this matter behind us so the entire focus can once again return to where it should be - dealing with the national crisis we are facing. I want you to know I have strictly obeyed lockdown rules'.

DGRossetti · 27/05/2020 17:35

want us to put this matter behind us

Well fix it then you moronic cunt.

Imagine Churchill standing up in the HoC with bombs landing around him, being asked what he's going to do about the Blitz, and he says "I think we should put the matter behind us".

LouiseCollins28 · 27/05/2020 17:37

Some MPs will be sending out automated/template replies when the postbag bulges. Happened to me several times

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:38

The nodding dog off the ads would make a better job of it than this twat.

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:40

"Thank you for taking so many questions..."

Yeah, but not so many answers.

AuldAlliance · 27/05/2020 17:42

"I have enjoyed this session."

At least someone has.

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:42

@AuldAlliance

"I have enjoyed this session."

At least someone has.

someone's telling porky pies again
DGRossetti · 27/05/2020 17:45

Some MPs will be sending out automated/template replies when the postbag bulges. Happened to me several times

Yes, but that doesn't really explain the "let's all move on" answer(s) though.

Imagine law and order writ large on that basis ?

Horrible murder.

Shall we find out who's responsible and bring them to justice ?

Nah, probably much easier to put it behind us. Pass us that scoop, there's some brain here.

pussycatinboots · 27/05/2020 17:49

Matt Hancock "The virus exists only to reproduce..."

bit like Boris Hmm

OldLace · 27/05/2020 17:56

Help - Am I being really dense about the contact tracing system?

So, it only works if:
You notice you have symptoms.
You get tested (self tested?)
You test positive.
You then go onto the website and give details of people you know that you have been in contact with for more than 15mins over the last week. They then must self isolate or face financial sanctions.

But Teachers 'contacts' in Schools are not included in the qualifying list of 'close contacts'. What??
