Westminstenders: Magical Thinking

This week has seen reports of the government editing footage of Johnson to avoid embarrassing questions about the early government response.

We've been asked to accept that the rules were different to what we were told to excuse the law breaking behaviour of a senior government advisor. As Johnson said he was being a responsible father (as if Johnson knows what this is) and it wasn't as if he was visiting a lover (this Johnson would know all about). Let's be honest Johnson is the master of brazening out controversy.

We also have the ERG complaining they were lied to by Gove about the new Withdrawal Agreement and the border in the Irish Sea which surprises precisely no one else.

They appear to be a little upset by the Cummings debarkable too.

R4 Week In Westminster tonight should be interesting, with Huw Merriman Tory MP who is not a DC fan.

mrslaughan · 24/05/2020 20:55

Mockers - is that normally available as a pod cast?

JeSuisPoulet · 24/05/2020 20:57

I've seen a few posts about Boo for Boris on Tuesday and another inciting people to chant "Lock him up".

I think Boris forgot that he sent a letter to every household which certainly didn't mention childcare. Hard to delete a few chunks of that one...

WifeofDarth · 24/05/2020 20:59

PMK
A bit late for the Y10 /12 guidance. All schools have been making plans based on interpreting what they'd heard so far. They couldn't keep parents waiting so communicated their plans on Friday, just before half term.
Piss up? Brewery? Oh no, too complicated.

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 21:00

I'll be honest, I think Goings is teflon at Todger the Prime Minister does not want to have to work weekends
BUT
If my incessant spamming of every thread I can find means that every MP in the country is dealing with irate electors
GOOD
because then people will reply and engage and not be palmed off
one of my friends already replied to their MP correcting the grammatical and factual errors asking for a new answer ... that MP was known for his spreadsheets

I do think its too late for Brexit
but there is hope for democracy

MagisCapulus · 24/05/2020 21:12

My MP will back Boris. Always does, always will. No matter the amount of feedback he gets on the socials. He doesnt even engage on FB, for example, and his PR person (I assume) deletes every awkward question or criticism apparently!

boatyardblues · 24/05/2020 21:15

Evening all.

Thanks for your kind words, but its really my friend who is suffering. I’m sad about her husband as he’s a lovely man and we’ve known them for a long time.

TheABC · 24/05/2020 21:15

I am bringing popcorn to the PMQs this week. So many fuck ups to choose from, so little time. MPs are rebelling against a return to Parliament, there's the ongoing schools issue, the commons select committee, an unhappy ERG over Brexit and don't forget the untendered, undisclosed data contracts to the private sector.

Johnson has wrecked our country and sold our privacy to the fastest bidder. At least I can enjoy watching him squirm.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/05/2020 21:17

Pmk. Very depressing day. I wish it were surprising.

DGRossetti · 24/05/2020 21:21

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 21:22

Magis
email them - and copy the speaker in if you get no response
they are required by statute to handle elector queries

the ABC
no PMQ this week - its half term

Sostenueto · 24/05/2020 21:31

BigChocFrenzy · 24/05/2020 21:35

The Prime Minister of the UK has just pissed over the country and told everyone it's just raining ....

pointythings · 24/05/2020 21:44

My MP is Matt Handcock - not much point in me emailing him.

AuldAlliance · 24/05/2020 21:49

Yoikes, your aunt sounds amazing.

AuldAlliance · 24/05/2020 21:51

John Crace nails it again in his summary of BJ's presser:

Classic Dom had done nothing wrong at all. In fact, he had done what any father would do and drive to his second home. Mostly because he was so short of friends that he had no one within a 260-mile radius who could leave food parcels for his child. Oddly, that was one of the few statements that sounded vaguely convincing.

The rest of his opening remarks were incoherent drivel. Dom had driven the length of the country to escape the virus. Even though he was taking it with him in the car and almost certainly contracted it during the enclosed proximity to his wife. It was as though Boris thought the virus could only travel at 50 mph, so if Dom drove at 70mph up the M1, then he could outrun it.

Dom had had no alternative. Indeed, if the de facto prime minister had a fault, it was that he loved his family too much. All those single mothers and workshy parents without second homes were basically heartless and uncaring for staying put and obeying the government advice on self-isolation. Dom: the man who loved too much.

Increasing numbers of SAGE advisors distancing themselves from the government tonight.

I think that’s 5 now plus a couple who’ve retweeted without comment.

This could get quite interesting for the government.

Mistigri · 24/05/2020 21:55

ListeningQuietly · 24/05/2020 21:59

pointythings
there is every every reason to email that MP
make him realise that he is facing a barrage of elector queries every day until he loses the next election Grin

Violetparis · 24/05/2020 22:00

That Daily Mail cover Shock

pointythings · 24/05/2020 22:06

LQ oh, I'll do it. I've done it before. He always replies too.

But he's a fucking toady.

mrslaughan · 24/05/2020 22:08
