I am not a immigrant but I have been one - within my family there members who are immigrants or second generation & its the second generation that feels these things more because they are British & if you are a "ethnic" British parent of a mixed marriage how would you feel if your child or family member had to face things like this? Point is - even as immigrant you cannot speak for everyone (with greatest respect) none of can for any group & if live in this building of 14 floors & there are signs like this how would you feel? Your home is a place you should be safe & feel safe - this could make you feel vulnerable because what else might this person or group of people do - are, for instance, living in the same building as you... I do not know which country you have come from or how difficult your life was there & I feel for you if you had to face worse than this & worse than this here to - in Social Psychology they talk of bigotry & racism as a progressive attitude/behaviour & it this that has to be halted as it is being accepted as a norm - we are moving backwards to the 60's & earlier - & I, for one, do not want to see this happen.

I actually wasnt. But to have Teddy speak for me and other immigrants was patronizing. Why can Teddy speak for immigrants when they are not one but I can't?

PityParty4one · 02/02/2020 00:45

Much worse as I said my country is racist against it's own people.

I get the sign is upsetting and scary and I am not taking anything away from those that feel that way but to label half the country racist Wayne's because of this 1 sign is stupid. It fuels the fire.

I wish the signs had been quietly removed and no second of head space given. By putting it in the media all it does is cause more arguments, more racists comments more slagging off from both sides. That solves nothing. It just gives the racists the platform they want.

@teddyisahe

I didn’t say some racist cunt hadn’t put it there, I said it wasn’t ‘real’in response to the OP’s poor question ‘is it true’.

No, the content is not true.

It might well have been stuck there, no one is denying that - but no, the content isn’t true 🙄

Pretending you need to ask about the veracity of it IS stirring.

Donkeytail · 02/02/2020 01:34

Time4chocolate your link doesnt answer the question? You said most racist countries in the world, you posted a link to the most racist country in the EU? This one shows countries outside of the EU also www.google.com/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/news/worldviews/wp/2013/05/15/a-fascinating-map-of-the-worlds-most-and-least-racially-tolerant-countries/%3foutputType=amp

time4chocolate · 02/02/2020 09:19

Oops I misread the PPs post, world not just EU. Your world link is behind a paywall though.

frumpety · 02/02/2020 09:38

AmelieTaylor I read the OP as asking whether the event , as in the pinning of the notice to the door , was true ? As opposed to the content of the note, which is clearly nasty bigoted bollocks.

I think it is a fair question to ask if you have seen something on social media, is this real/true ? Smile

ItWillBeBetterinAugust · 02/02/2020 09:55

PityParty4one your accountancy qualifications not being valid in the UK isn't racist - my UK qualifications aren't valid in the EU country I've moved to either. In almost all countries qualifications are regulated and very commonly not recognised as like for like.

PityParty4one · 02/02/2020 10:05

I never said it was Itwill.

lonelyplanetmum · 02/02/2020 10:45

Interesting that so many Brexiters are so anxious to make out that it's fake. You do need to own the consequences of your actions.

Yes. It is So weird that there were quite a few posters who did not believe that these notices were put up in the Winchester flats in Norwich.( They clearly were.)

Yet I bet the same people were prepared to completely believe the untruths and false promises during and following the leave campaign.

What a weird way to proceed through life. Absorbing and repeating lies for three years - yet instantly disbelieving this.

RufustheLanglovingreindeer · 02/02/2020 10:46

The note just brings it to everyone’s attention

In real life ive heard a number of times that people should speak english If they live in this country

Its certainly something that some people are thinking even if they dont write it down and pin it on a door

time4chocolate · 02/02/2020 11:09

That’s exactly what it was supposed to do.

Nowhere on here have I denied that it exists or that that I condone it. Weird.

Drabarni · 02/02/2020 11:15

I just hope you pulled it down, there's no place for racism, nor should there be.

SpamChaudFroid · 02/02/2020 11:51

I can't believe the racism denying/apologists on this thread, it's preposterous. As I said upthread, I live in this part of England, (where the poster was displayed) and I hear it with my own ears.

time4chocolate · 02/02/2020 12:02

Well I hope people are calling it out when they see it and/or reporting. Seen it for myself in London on a tube train about 8 years ago and called it out, would think twice about doing it now (on my own) though as would probably have a knife pulled on me, wouldn’t hesitate to film it on my phone though and report.

DeDoRonRon · 02/02/2020 12:21

"Whoever it was who posted this notice, did so in order to create this very thread "

That is indeed a preposterous response and speaks volumes about your priorities.

SpamChaudFroid · 02/02/2020 12:21

I always call it out. Sadly it's not reportable as it's everyday casual racism being used.

time4chocolate · 02/02/2020 12:30

DeDoRonRon I would also question the guys response/priorities if his initial and only action was to put it on SM - it’s only because it went viral and Norwich council picked it up that it was reported to the police. It’s a hate crime, report it don’t just tweet it.

VenusTiger · 02/02/2020 12:40

@DeDoRonRon - sorry what?! So we were to believe the QT plants and the fake nurse interviews to were we!

VenusTiger · 02/02/2020 12:40

*too

Potatobug · 02/02/2020 12:48

SpamChaudFroid it is not racism, it is called xenophobia.
A (supposedly) white British person can’t be racist against white Europeans as they share the same skin colour. The British are not a different race from Europeans. It’s a different culture. The letter is xenophobic, not racist.
Why do people muddle up these two words?

VenusTiger · 02/02/2020 14:00

@DeDoRonRon my DH came to England 30 yrs ago - he saw and heard things like this in pub doorways - he didn't go around calling every English person a racist or xenophobic - this notice was of course going to be shared on SM - and it's those who are now calling every Brexit voter a racist who are the prepostorous people DeDo! Don't you tell me about my priorities.
My DH and his parents all voted to Leave - this sign is despicable! It does NOT speak for anyone else other than the author.

Chersfrozenface · 02/02/2020 14:16

@time4chocolate wrote "I would also question the guys response/priorities if his initial and only action was to put it on SM - it’s only because it went viral and Norwich council picked it up that it was reported to the police. It’s a hate crime, report it don’t just tweet it."

The BBC website notes that the resident contacted a local councillor who advised him to contact the police, and she did likewise. So the council was alerted via a councillor.

Also, the resident did not share the picture publicly. It was picked up by another person from a chat the resident was in and that person tweeted it publicly. See the story in The Independent.

time4chocolate · 02/02/2020 14:40

Yes, I was aware that was initiated in a private chat and fair play if he contacted police before it went widespread as that would be the right thing to do. I’m also pleased they have CCTV, let’s hope it was working. What a prize arsehole(s).
