No, not yet, but soon. Just 24 more sleeps until we legally leave the EU at 11pm on 31 January and finally enter the transition period after what seems like centuries of argument, dither and delay. We do so with hope, optimism and a determination to be a good friend and neighbour to the EU, but for now, no one said it better than Winston Churchill.

“This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning.”

The Pub Rule is the same as it always was: all welcome but only if you leave goadery outside. The first drink is on the house.

No one is asking you not to post.

Likewise you should not be telling other people where they should post.

If you want to vet the list of Authorised True Believers then set up a Facebook group of your own.

howabout · 17/01/2020 13:47

Songs surely the electoral mandate means the State as well as carrying out the wishes of those who elected it should endorse those wishes appropriately.

Losers consent is a thing without which the alternative tends towards anarchy.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:47

“No. Just pointing out that efforts have to be made by both sides.”

Nope. Nobody has to make ANY effort to DO anything at all.

Bearbehind · 17/01/2020 13:47

If Big Ben bonging was free I couldn’t give a shit if it played the National Anthem or Bohemian Rhapsody.

What I object to is spending ÂŖ500k on such an unnecessary and antagonistic gesture.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:50

For all the “tough”, I was just making an observation. I’m newish to this pub so still learning when to scroll past. I’m not weeping over the lack of an “ignore” button! Just sharing.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:50

Which is why moves like ringing big ben are pointless: they don't achieve anything. Leavers are getting what they want: the whole country including all remainers is leaving the EU. No need to rub it in.

yolofish · 17/01/2020 13:51

all the emotional intelligence of a twig what a bloody MARVELLOUS phrase! am stealing. TFIF, please let's all be nice to each other??

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:51

Epic no, I’m not on this thread to make an effort, it’s just been nice not to be the stranger!

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:51

Nobody has to make ANY effort to DO anything at all

Think you'll find many people will have to do a hell of a lot to fix the divide.

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 13:53

And, again, you do not have any rights on Mumsnet to tell pp where they can and can't post.

Praise be - we are #blessed that a #bravesndstunning thread monitor is on hand to dictate what we can and cannot say

🙄🙄🙄

Le-fucking-yawn

Start your own thread about the MN rulez poppet - perhaps you'll find someone who gives a shit 🤷đŸģ‍♀ī¸

Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/01/2020 13:54

Here's me thinking after an overwhelming victory for democracy, remainers were finally dialling back the abuse and accepting that we are definitely leaving the EU. But sadly the barrel hasn't yet been fully scraped and the closer we get to independence day the louder their shrieks become again.

Oh well, but the good news is that after only a day the 'Bung a Bob for a Big Ben Bong has raised 1/4 of a million. Whether or not it ever happens I think we can say the force is still strong with Brexiteers.

Bear hence the crowdfunder.

No idea how all the naysayers in that London will cope with Big Ben Bonging all day long once he's fully restored. It's not as if anyone's suggesting we invent a new Brexity Bong or a non-standard ringing time or an extra Bong to denote being on Continental time in our Treaty negotiation.

Mistigri · 17/01/2020 13:55

surely the electoral mandate means the State as well as carrying out the wishes of those who elected it should endorse those wishes appropriately.

This is very opaque, could you expand?

yolofish · 17/01/2020 13:55

I like songs posts, I think she is making her points very eloquently and with due respect to those of you who wish to leave.

People who want to remain arent going to wake up on Feb 1 and say 'fuck me, I was wrong all along, Brexit's an amazing idea' are they?

So if you/they/people really want to heal divisions and move forwards then there needs to be found a way to bring 'us' along with it without actually antagonising us even more than we already have been.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:56

Where did you see abuse walking?

Also not seen anyone contesting the fact we're leaving ?!

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:56

“Think you'll find many people will have to do a hell of a lot to fix the divide.”

Nope. Politicians can have a crack if they like, but the average person on the street already made the ‘effort’ to vote and that is all they needed to do. In fact, they were not even legally or morally obliged to do that.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:56

Cheers @yolofish !

NiceGuyNeddie · 17/01/2020 13:57

Praise be - we are #blessed that a #bravesndstunning thread monitor is on hand to dictate what we can and cannot say

Except that's clearly the opposite of what they're doing.

Btw did you know yawning is a sign of anxiety in dogs?

Arkadas · 17/01/2020 13:57

News Thump just about sums up the ridiculousness of the Big Ben Boings
"The failing Big Ben bong campaign has been revealed as the perfect metaphor, in which an extremely expensive vanity project has not been thought through by the people advocating for it."

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:57

Epic I’m on a discussion board to avoid doing work in the first place!

Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/01/2020 13:58

What I object to is spending ÂŖ500k on such an unnecessary and antagonistic gesture
You do realise people are donating their own money? Its not costing the country a penny. And the only people to be antagonised will be those who chose to stay up late and go to hear it ring. If you dont want to hear it just go to bed.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:58

“So if you/they/people really want to heal divisions and move forwards then there needs to be found a way to bring 'us' along with it without actually antagonising us even more than we already have been.”

Nope. Not bothered in the slightest.

DustyDiamond · 17/01/2020 13:59

what is there to be proud of at the moment?

Plenty!

The toxic Parliament has been ousted & replaced

The democratically-delivered instruction of 2016 is being enacted

The rotten shitshow of Corbyn's Labour has been roundly told you fuck off

I'm proud of those 3 things for starters

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:59

“Epic I’m on a discussion board to avoid doing work in the first place!”

SingingLily · 17/01/2020 13:59

Well this is an interesting experience, I suppose.

We seemed to have gained a new influx of visitors.

Anyone know what is happening with the LibDem leadership contest?
