No, not yet, but soon. Just 24 more sleeps until we legally leave the EU at 11pm on 31 January and finally enter the transition period after what seems like centuries of argument, dither and delay. We do so with hope, optimism and a determination to be a good friend and neighbour to the EU, but for now, no one said it better than Winston Churchill.

“This is not the end, this is not even the beginning of the end, this is just perhaps the end of the beginning.”

The Pub Rule is the same as it always was: all welcome but only if you leave goadery outside. The first drink is on the house.

“what is there to be proud of at the moment?”

The fine meme above by dusty?

Walking
“ I dont get this snowflakery that celebrating such a momentous occasion should be avoided because it will upset remainers. They will always be upset. ”

No one wants riots or whatever though. In terms of people just generally being upset, that’s one thing but I think it’s such a “you never know”.

As a Londoner, I feel like a stranger in a strange land with my Brexit views.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 12:33

howabout “May have to FF through it on iplayer and just look for his bits.”

I’m pretty sure he didn’t show anyone his bits.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 12:33

I dont get this snowflakery that celebrating such a momentous occasion should be avoided because it will upset remainers. They will always be upset.

But as you're not a snowflake surely you can take remainers' criticism for the next decades...

It is NOT independence day. In fact personally I'm pissed off because it's ushering in an era of being bullied by bigger players. As much as I'd like us to be, we won't be free; if anything we'll be a lot less.

howabout · 17/01/2020 12:40

Autumn Grin. Guido has thoughtfully collated all his best bits but I might still have to trawl through just to make sure. Laurence and Emilia are top value on Celebrity Gogglebox as well, along with Stanley and Toff and Chris Eubanks and Martin Kemp and their sons.

For anyone still trying to convince themselves Labour should have pivoted to Remain earlier electoralcalculus has done the post match analysis. They have a top graphic with waving Brexiteers and stoic Remainers to rival even Dusty. Interesting to see how many Leavers Labour actually still held and could yet lose.

howabout · 17/01/2020 12:44

Autumn see Brendan's comments I posted yesterday.

Often feel like you being a Unionist Brexiteer in Glasgow but Scotland has at least 1m of me and probably double the same again who are just sick of being marched over every weekend.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 17/01/2020 12:59

Why are Remainers coming into a Leave pub to complain about Big Ben bonging? Something hypocritical about their claims of not upsetting people.

Mistigri · 17/01/2020 13:06

I thought this was a mumsnet thread.

Does MNHQ allow users to impose their own rules and restrict access to threads to only True Believers?

You don't have to read posts from people you don't like. But you can't stop them posting.

Arkadas · 17/01/2020 13:15

What an unpleasant thread, with the 'regulars' trying to rule on who can post and who can't. Clearly, they can't stand any kind of view that doesn't fit their narrow criteria of acceptability.

Regarding the Big Ben nonsense, anyone who can't see how inflammatory it would be to celebrate something (a) half the country doesn't want (b) that has caused - and continues to cause - huge distress to EU 27 citizens living in the UK, must have all the emotional intelligence of a twig.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:15

I used to be on another forum which had a button to ignore posters, that was handy.

There was one guy who used to come along regularly to tell us that depression didn’t exist.

Arkadas · 17/01/2020 13:18

Should have added to my post above
...celebrate something that (c) has no tangible benefit whatsoever, or at least none that has become evident yet and (d) has cost the country a phenomenal amount already etc...

As another poster has already said, the time to celebrate will be after benefits are seen. That will also be the time when reconciliation might become possible.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:21

Gosh.

Some folk must be excruciatingly dull in RL.

Arkadas · 17/01/2020 13:21

That might be 'handy' if you want to exist in an echo chamber..

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:23

You don't have to read posts from people you don't like. But you can't stop them posting.

You don't have to listen to bongs from bells you don't like. But you can't stop them bonging.

I took the liberty. No need to thank me.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:24

“I used to be on another forum which had a button to ignore posters, that was handy.”

I would rejoice the day MN installed that feature. In fact I might even find a bell to bong.

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:30

“ That might be 'handy' if you want to exist in an echo chamber.”

I take the view that I choose my company in real life so I’d like to choose it online.

If only I could live in an echo chamber! Well, I suppose London is an echo chamber in many ways, just not my kind!

AutumnRose1 · 17/01/2020 13:31

PS I’m sure people hate it when I bring up overpopulation at every opportunity!

NiceGuyNeddie · 17/01/2020 13:32

Why are Remainers coming into a Leave pub to complain about Big Ben bonging? Something hypocritical about their claims of not upsetting people.

You're not in a Leave pub, you're on a Mumsnet thread.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:35

“I take the view that I choose my company in real life so I’d like to choose it online.”

I agree! Besides, I have heard every single cliched moan, groan and insult a million times over from the ploppers that insist on policing our thread without engaging Hmm. It’s dull AF, I’m ready for my echo chamber now.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:36

Personally I think we should just ship in Idina Menzel, for a rousing live rendition of “Let it go” instead.

Because we're going to shut ourselves off into an ice castle of our own making?

Arkadas · 17/01/2020 13:39

I take the view that I choose my company in real life so I’d like to choose it online.
So post somewhere more niche than a public online forum? Somewhere that openly cheer-leads for Brexit? I'm sure such places exist.

Songsofexperience · 17/01/2020 13:42

Why are Remainers coming into a Leave pub to complain about Big Ben bonging? Something hypocritical about their claims of not upsetting people.

No. Just pointing out that efforts have to be made by both sides. Reconciliation doesn't mean remainers shut up. It means taking into account what half the population thinks. That's how we'll end up moving forward.

NiceGuyNeddie · 17/01/2020 13:43

I take the view that I choose my company in real life so I’d like to choose it online

Tough. 'Online' is the world and you'll just have to deal with it, same as we all do.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:44

“So post somewhere more niche than a public online forum? Somewhere that openly cheer-leads for Brexit? I'm sure such places exist.”

It exists, here, in the online pretend pub. Thanks for the utterly pointless advice though. Now who is trying to tell posters where they can post? 🤔 Who is it that actually wants the echo chamber again? So many questions... but alas, so few fucks to give.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 17/01/2020 13:46

“Tough. 'Online' is the world and you'll just have to deal with it, same as we all do.”

you OK hun?
