Westminstenders: War and Weirdos

RedToothBrush · 03/01/2020 21:34

With weirdos set to run No10 and Trump seemingly having started a new war in the Middle East, 2020 already looks set to be a cracking year.

To start off your year, it turns out that chinese curse about interesting times is actually a fallacy...

Happy New Year.

May we make 2030...

Sorry. I’ve got nothing to say. Just could not resist being first to comment on a brand new thread.

borntobequiet · 03/01/2020 21:39

PMK thanks Red.

CrunchyCarrot · 03/01/2020 21:45

Very apt title! Thanks, Red. Gonna fasten my seatbelt for this year.

RedToothBrush · 03/01/2020 21:50

Oh the positive side perhaps a nuclear winter is the solution to global warming...

... Only a few side effects to contend with in terms of how successful it'll be...

I find it so hard to believe that Raab is Foreign Minister. To me, there's something really embodiment of evil about him. Seeing photos of men like him in charge is GRIM.

Torchlightt · 03/01/2020 22:05

Or is it Foreign Secretary.
Like Gove, but a lot worse.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 03/01/2020 22:18

I have nothing useful to contribute.

yolofish · 03/01/2020 22:19

PMK having just got the bloody psychopath cat to stop sitting across my arms as I try and type.

God knows what the next days/weeks/months will bring...

lonelyplanetmum · 03/01/2020 22:31

I just actually read Cummings blog & job ad.

Speechless.

dominiccummings.com/

lonelyplanetmum · 03/01/2020 22:32

Sorry I forgot to say thanks to Red. Told you I was speechless.

yolofish · 03/01/2020 22:34

lonelyplanet I just looked at that link. Fuck me, no words!

7Days · 03/01/2020 22:41

Can anyone drill down into what exactly happened in the American embassy? I try to find out but fear I'm falling to bias/spin/fake news.

I'm reminded of viewing houses years ago with fresh coffee and baking bread smells. Yes theres 4 walls and a roof. Theres no lie. But theres a definite steer.

lonelyplanetmum · 03/01/2020 22:45

Yup yolo - the author of that appears to be our supreme leader's adviser in chief.

Come back Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill all is forgiven.

lonelyplanet that Dominic Cummings ad is a long winded way of saying 'Henchmen Required. Apply Now to Evil Genius, Mountain Lair'

lonelyplanetmum · 03/01/2020 23:03

Henchmen Required. Apply Now to Evil Genius [ who is out of ideas and still lacks a plan] Mountain Lair/ Liar

7Days · 03/01/2020 23:15

I dont know does he lack ideas.
Lack know-how, maybe.

friendlycat · 03/01/2020 23:34

I am beyond speechless at that Dominic Cummings job ad. You just couldn’t make it up. It's like something out of a poor grade tv sitcom. God help us all. Though I suppose you could say they are trying to hire people who could perhaps know what they are doing which would be a novel and new idea. The bloke is odd and off his rocker.

Songsofexperience · 04/01/2020 00:04

Read the Cummings blog too. Thanks for sharing.
To be honest I think it's more the way he presents it than what he really says. For instance I had to laugh at "I will bin you after a few weeks if it doesn't work out". Yes... that's normally called a probation period and it's hardly revolutionary. Wanting to recruit subject matter experts is also not very new. The bit about less formal hierarchy- again, that's nothing new as the traditional career ladder seems to be less prevalent now than a couple of decades ago. Or even the bit about misfits and his references to the Gibson novels- they've been classic geek fare for decades. He just wants to shock and come across as unconventional I think more than anything else. It's an exercise in comms basically.

Torchlightt · 04/01/2020 01:20
  1. The standard thing of wanting to recruit people who are like him. and / or 2) wanting to recruit people who will happily go along with his wrecking of the UK, having no formal training or traditional professionalism or career ambition.
  2. For the publicity - to get everyone talking about him again.

I have to admit to finding Cummings fascinating. Agree with Songsofexperience re presentation versus content, was originally going to say his modus operandi but modus ponens and modus tollens are equally relevant to him and his work, I think ?

< didn't learn Latin at school so could be talking bollocks Smile >

TokyoSushi · 04/01/2020 07:54

PMK, thanks!!
