Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

No problem, Duck, happy to help.

Tbf, if it had been awarded to Boris, you'd never had heard the end of it. He would have been absolutely mortified and his political career would have been killed stone dead. Quite rightly. But because it was Jeremy "My friends in Hamas and Hezbollah" Corbyn, everyone probably just yawned.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 20/12/2019 21:27

DuckWillow There was no coverage of Corbyn winning a 'peace' prize because its not a prize that the UK has ever considered anything to do with peace and so has never publicised anyone who has won it.

I suppose other countries might feel differently about the IRA peace prize.

But its not a secret, its on his wiki page and it is the ONLY peace prize he has 'won' since he became Labour leader. I am sure Labour could have shouted it from the rooftops but it just would have fed into his terrorist sympathising tendencies.

and FYI he only shared the prize with others, he didn't win it himself.

HateIsNotGood · 20/12/2019 21:28

Throws another log on fire, have my own Twiglets and H has easily scoffed half of them, bloody typical.

Anyway, batten the hatches and all that, but the SE is flooding, so I hear.

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 21:31

Evening, Hate, it's flooded near me in the West Country. The centre of town has sandbags piled up because the Avon is threatening to burst its banks.

AutumnRose1 · 20/12/2019 21:32

Hate yes, my local weather forecast completely conflicts with that quite confused.

I dont think it would have gone in JC favour to have more publicity for that prize.

mummmy2017 · 20/12/2019 21:36

The picture of Boris and Corbyn.
Corbyn farted, and was trying to pretend there was no smell.
Boris just couldn't stop giggling about it..

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 21:39

Oh I don't know, Autumn, Sqwawkbox was quite indignant that he didn't receive media-wide adulation at the time. Famous for its moderate and impartial views is Sqwawkbox. Really in tune with mainstream opinion. Grin

HateIsNotGood · 20/12/2019 21:39

I live high enough on a very steep hill. If I feel smug and appear gloaty that is why. Other than that, I take no pleasure fom others' misfortunes.

bellinisurge · 20/12/2019 21:42

Sun is over the yard arm and I'm popping in for a G&T.

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 21:46

Evening, Bellini, 🍸is the best I can do!

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 20/12/2019 22:31

Good evening my fellow armers.

What another beautiful day.
I really enjoyed little John's piece in the mail today... For whom does the bell toll.

I keep thinking about that line in the other thread.. We are all equal at the ballot box.
That was the bottom line of why I voted leave. Its so, so precious.

I remember flashing a look at my daughters face just before I crossed the box on the day, raging monsoon rain outside. I just thought, come what may, no matter how difficult it becomes (at that time only anticipating issues with trade deals and politics linked not our own mps!!) I've got to pass down a clear transparent vote that belongs to you.

It's got to mean something. Now it truly does again. People who say, there's no point voting my area is always blue red, pink...

Not true... People who said '' there's no point voting, they won't let us leave ''

Not true!

So much more has been restored to us since the ref vote. I feel proud to be a part of this '' restoration ''.

Re Boris victory today, what a resounding result. Especially after he was continually taunted '' you've lost every vote you brought to parliament, your not even elected ''..

Now he's elected and by a huge majority and he's won his vote with a large margin.

Dusty that earlier picture of the brown grinch is the ugliest picture I've ever seen of that nature 😱😱😂

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 20/12/2019 22:33

I'm loving all the corbyn photo quips but I'm not sure it's quite captured yet 😂😂

MeganBacon · 20/12/2019 22:45

I love the knitted Jezza Time, is it your own work? (Keen occasional knitter here)

MeganBacon · 20/12/2019 22:49

Also loving the screaming toddler meme Dusty, but am I the only one starting to feel a bit sorry for him? Until I remember he could actually bow out and thereby maintain some dignity, if only he chose to.

time4chocolate · 20/12/2019 23:31

megan I'm a keen occasional knitter myself but alas I can't take any credit for knitted Jezza, I stole it from the internet Blush

Twattage13 · 21/12/2019 06:48

Morning all - I'll have a coffee and a pint of water (with my own electrolyte) please LL. Assuming I'm serving myself as it's a bit early.

Running training for me this morning - heavy rain and strong wind, it's not going to be a PB day!

I also v briefly almost felt sorry for JC yesterday until I also remembered that he had a choice of not being in that role and he chose to stay on, therefore whatever is happening is entirely self-inflicted. V much enjoying the toddler tantrums though - they can continue for a while before they get old with me.

SingingLily · 21/12/2019 08:11

Morning, All,

No more rain today, please. I think we've already used all the sandbags. Still, it's warm and dry here in the Brexit Arms. I offered to do the catering for time4chocolate so the breakfast tray is ready when you are. It's a French theme today, as you can see, but - and here's to the post-Brexit world - other breakfast choices are available.

In some ways, I feel sorry for Jezza. He spent nearly 35 years or so on the backbenches, fighting what he thought was the good fight, associating only with those with his worldview. Then he was catapulted into the leadership where his adoring fans sang Ohh Jeremy Corbyn and he was hailed as authentic and genuine for never once changing his mind about anything at all despite reality and despite facts. All that time in little echo chambers, people telling him he was great, and now this. The Great Betrayal by the very people he was trying to save from themselves. It's not him, you know, it's us. We've got such a long way to go before we reach enlightenment. Really, he must be so disappointed in us. Him, Momentum, the BBC, the Mirror, the list goes on.

Kettle's on.

Thanks SingingLily, i do love a bit of puff pastry!
Totally agree about Jezzas bubble of wokeness. It's the reason I love democracy so much, and now our votes have even more power because we can remove the people who aren't serving us as we want, unlike the EU gravy train.

SingingLily · 21/12/2019 08:36

Morning, Boswell,

now our votes have even more power because we can remove the people who aren't serving us as we want, unlike the EU gravy train.

And that, in a nutshell, is why I voted Leave. If I had to choose just one image that symbolised democracy, it would be a removal van. The spectacle of the removal van pulling up outside No. 10 the morning after a general election embodies the ruthless, but in my view, wholly necessary, message:

"The People Have Spoken. Now pick up your desk-tidy and go".

It's the modern equivalent of the Ancient Roman tradition in which a slave would whisper continuously in the ear of a victorious general celebrating a public Triumph, "Remember you are mortal".

Moreover, it passes the Benn test.

Try doing that with Berlaymont.

BoswellSolver · 21/12/2019 08:40

It was like we were choosing a consultant rather than a leader, when we chose our government. Who can best work the system we are stuck in to our benefit?
Now we ask 'who will best serve us and carry out our wishes?'
Why wouldn't you want that!?

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 21/12/2019 08:51

Boswell exactly, there is no top layer lurking in the background with agendas we are not privy too.

Singing yesterday 12.30 ish.. Life being took short and radiators and drains, totally agree.

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 21/12/2019 08:59

As usual nodding along Boswell and singing 😂😂.

And... The Benn test. I've drummed the Benn test into dd. I may put it on the wall somewhere like people do with '' inspirational quotes '' along with the... Vote is the equaliser quote from the last thread.

SingingLily · 21/12/2019 09:06

Life being took short and radiators and drains, totally agree.

Thank you, World. I was worried I couldn't articulate that well so I'm glad you understood.

I tried to post a simple Merry Christmas as the last on the old thread, seeing as we ended it on a such thoughtful and personal note but I was too late. LQ misread the mood spectacularly again and used the opportunity to get a bit of bile in at what was quite clearly a reflective time for us on loss and bereavement in RL. What a charmer.

DuckWillow · 21/12/2019 09:42

Thanks all, to be honest I didn’t know what peace prize/award it was and it seems to stem from 2017 anyway so not sure what my Swiss cousin was talking about ...he seemed to think there was something more recent but perhaps not.

This will be my thread for political news from now on as there’s no spin on here. I can trust what I read rather than in any newspaper of media page.
