Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

oh I can't find it now
maybe I'm on the wrong thread Blush

SingingLily · 27/12/2019 11:00

Morning, Autumn, see Howabout's post on Tuesday afternoon - you'll find it.

scaryteacher · 27/12/2019 11:33

Xing We had a couple of red squirrels who lived in the trees at the bottom of the garden in Belgium. No greys there. The reds were lovely. I preferred them to the flock of parakeets that used to swarm the nutfeeders. I looked out one day and there were 19 of them perched on the pear tree. At least the nuthatches, treecreepers, finches and fits could feed when the squirrels were digging up the garden. The parakeets scared off all the little birds.

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 11:48

Thank you Lily

XingMing · 27/12/2019 15:11

We now have several treecreepers and nuthatches making regular visits to DH's bird feeders, plus lots of goldfinches, the occasional bullfinch, and robins, blackbirds, thrushes and dunnocks, no sparrows though... jackdaws and crows in squadrons. Hoping that the squirrel-proof feeders Santa brought will deter the small furry greys; they seem to have bred like rabbits this year.

Did anyone else listen to Today, guest-edited by Lady Hale earlier? It was pleasantly different.

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 15:46

Xing I seem to be the only person I know who doesn't do radio!

where you live sounds marvellous.

I've just had a surprising conversation with a neighbour. He was always a common sense down to earth guy, I thought.....but it turns out he's been campaigning for the Lib Dems. I didn't ask what he thought would happen if they'd got in and actually just ignored the ref result.

yolofish · 27/12/2019 17:07

Lily how's it going with the rellies??

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 17:19

OMD

this is a bit outing but I suppose no one I know will be in this pub.

I've just been warned by someone I know that Titania McGrath is a spoof.

The fact that she a) thought it wasn't b) thinks I need warning about it is making me think - FUCKING HELL, WHAT DID THEY PUT IN THE WATER?!!

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 27/12/2019 17:50

“I've just been warned by someone I know that Titania McGrath is a spoof.

The fact that she a) thought it wasn't b) thinks I need warning about it is making me think - FUCKING HELL, WHAT DID THEY PUT IN THE WATER?!!”

😂😂😂😂😂😂

Frikkin hilarious! 😂

yolofish · 27/12/2019 17:51

oops, but wtf is Titania McGrath??

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 17:59

Hey GhostofEpic may I hug you? Great to see you.

yolo she’s a satirical character. In fairness, I do see how it’s hard to differentiate in this mad world, but my friend was talking as if people would be sad that she’s not real.

Here’s a talk by the creator, at the National Liberal Club. I think it’s interesting for people all round.

Barging in to say merry Christmas comrades.

Dusty, snap.

Illness and nits is what I've been up to my elbows in here. Dh also struck down but only on boxing day.

Youngest has had a brilliant time however. Apart from hours of nit combing and running back and forth to the patient, Xmas day was wonderful.

Much merryment, mirth and some live music curtesy of my leaver friend.

A cathartic leavers '' relief '' common sense prevailed election chat.

Going to pick back through to see what I've missed.

Epic ghost, welcome back ❤️❤️🎄🎄🎍🌲

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 27/12/2019 19:21

The fox man 😳😳🦊🦊🦊😵.

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 27/12/2019 19:43

“Hey GhostofEpic may I hug you? Great to see you.”

You absolutely may! 🤗 Thanks all! You too, hope you all had a lovely Christmas! I burnt the yorkies, and the pastry collapsed on today’s turkey leftover pie, but... it has still been marvellous and chilled anyway! Feeling very grateful that we seem to be lurgy (and nit) free here! 🤞🏻 🍷

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 27/12/2019 19:55

I never ever had them when younger, now did older dd.

Younger dd it seems reoccurring throughout the school and of course the dc all hug, kiss and rub heads at this age.
I don't know how we will ever get rid.

I spray with t tree oil etc...

XingMing · 27/12/2019 20:45

Nits... we had them! And lurgies, but three weeks ago. Very sympathetic to anyone trying to do festivities with either or both. We've wound down here and are just eating the leftovers until we have the return match with our medical chums on NYD. Then it's dry January to dodge liver failure.

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 27/12/2019 21:56

We are on the the up xing, winning the nit battle and illness battle, I'm the last man standing.

To be fair we've dodged illness for 12 years at Xmas so it's not been too bad.Grin

I'm still processing that base ball bat tweet!

Why even tweet it!!

SingingLily · 27/12/2019 23:56

Evening, all,

A very strong builders brew please, a double. No, make it a triple, with extra strength teabags.

Thank you, Landlady. One day nearly over, two more to go.

The rellies are nissed. As pewts. I, on the other hand, am sober. It's not a fair contest. I've even got them referring to RLB as Rebecca Wrong-Daily and agreeing that it's economic madness to tax the rich till the pips squeak and they pack their suitcases and flee with all their money.

My work is done, well for today anyway. Let's see what tomorrow brings. They might be too hungover to remember.

Autumn, it's touching that someone thought she was doing you a favour by telling you the shocking truth about Titania McGrath. I hope you looked suitably alarmed. Grin

AutumnRose1 · 28/12/2019 00:28

Lily you’re doing well! And “nissed as pewts” is great!

Re looking alarmed, I have an excellent poker face but there was a millisecond of risk there 😂

SingingLily · 28/12/2019 00:46

Re looking alarmed, I have an excellent poker face but there was a millisecond of risk there

That did make me laugh, Autumn.

I really want to go to sleep now but they are in the next room and they are snoring. Very very loudly. It's like an elephant clearing its stuffy nose underwater. Times two. I'm not joking. It's a wonder the whole neighbourhood can't hear it. Or maybe they can.

I'll never be able to show my face in this village again.

AutumnRose1 · 28/12/2019 00:53

Oh no Lily

How long are they staying?

SingingLily · 28/12/2019 07:22

Morning, all,

Lurgies, nits, snoring rellies - whatever your troubles, leave them far behind and join us in the warmth of the Brexit Arms. The Landlady has already been round with mop and duster and the bat gleams.

Today, the complimentary breakfast tray has a Dutch theme: ontbijt with freshly baked bread and any of the following toppings: appelstroop, cheese, cold meats, eggs, jam, honey, hazelnut-chocolate spread or sweet sprinkles. Please help yourselves.

Autumn, they leave on Sunday. I've told them I'll cook them a full breakfast to fortify them before they hit the road. That's as clear a hint as any, although I fear they are impervious to hints. They are still snoring. I have had no sleep. I am a woman deranged.

In the meantime, kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

SingingLily · 28/12/2019 07:24

The bat gleams? 🦇

The bar gleams.

Told you I'd had no sleep.

AutumnRose1 · 28/12/2019 08:48

Morning Lily

I was thinking you’re very early. They’re still snoring, bloody hell.

I couldn’t sleep and ended up looking at the social media of several professional contacts

Suffice to say it’s a good thing I’m not open about my views, I doubt I’d ever get work again. Apparently “you’ll never cross my threshold again if you’re a Brexiteer” is common, along with “I am standing up for minority rights” from people who are definitely going to call me a coconut.

Oh well, no need to see any work people till new year.
