Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

What an utter penis that man is

This tweet made me laugh though...

The Jolyon thing is making lol so hard and Christmas was a downer so I’m cheering right up now! 😂

SingingLily · 26/12/2019 16:08

Autumn, 🍷 and 🍫

Next year will be better

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 16:25

Aw thanks Lily I’ve actually had a good year, but I don’t think mum will ever recover from dad’s death.

It’s taken me a while to learn that I can’t really do any more for her without putting my own health down the crapper.

Meanwhile, very much hoping that people got receipts for the Maugham tweets! Apparently it’s not the first time he’s been in his garden with a baseball bat, looking for a fox... Confused

The thread on feminism chat about the election result seems to have descended into identity politics.

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 16:32

Have a look at #JolyonTheFoxKiller on twitter - lots of lols to be seen there Autumn ❤️🍷

Xmas at ours has been v low key & quiet - youngest came down with lurgy xmas Eve so couldn't eat anything yesterday & left to go sleep in the car after a spoonful of soup & a couple of pigs in blankets
Both boys were in bed by about 7 last night as eldest started feeling crappy as well...
I started feeling crappy this morning 😩

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 16:34

Apparently it’s not the first time he’s been in his garden with a baseball bat, looking for a fox... Confused

And each time he was wearing his wife's kimono 🤔

He's def got form for this...

SingingLily · 26/12/2019 16:38

And each time he was wearing his wife's kimono

Did you have to say that, Dusty? It's made these horrible horrible pictures in my head...😱

Hope it's a shortlived lurgy for all three of you. 🍋 and 🍯

HateIsNotGood · 26/12/2019 16:41

Just saying hello, hello , hello (is there anyone in there... is there any.....?) strewing chocolates in my wake.

Yesterday was fab - doing zero, nothing, nada - except for a really quality half hour with ds where we laughed and joked about our presents to each other. And yes I was sat on his bed, though not too early.

Today has involved transporting him too and fro to his 'work experience' as many other days have involved and many more to come too.

I am delighted - he's doing so well at it - out in the rain, feeding up - this for me is a very good thing. He's finding his place and what he's good at.

Having left my landline handset on the radiator (on a tea towel) since it's Xmas Eve Red Wine saturation - it appears to have 'survived' sufficiently to be useable, at least for now.

Cheers to All for now

Hope all is well w

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 16:52

Dusty hope everyone recovers ASAP.

I must say, Mr Maugham (silk?) is putting me off my own kimono!

I might have to actually buy a newspaper because this is too funny. Then again, my trial sub to the Spectator (first issue still not here) might cover it.

The situation I mean, not the too short kimono.

That was a lot of information he shared....is he trolling us? 😂

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 17:03

Lol Autumn 😂😂

The Guardian have even run a piece on the cross-dressing fox killer 😱

I feel your pain Lily...
I too have been imagining the very worst re Jo M
I've an image of him in a mini kimono (green) with his bollocks hanging out, wielding his bat
It's the stuff of nightmares 🤮

That's awesome Hate ❤️❤️
He's finding his place and what he's good at.
👆 this is the best we can wish for, for all our kids I think
Grand ambitions are great, but finding their own place in the world, & the happiness/contentment that comes from that, is def the goal 🍷

We're all lurgified here, but it's still been lovely - just the three of us mooching about is a rare thing nowadays as we're becoming more like passing ships these days

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 17:30

Jo the 🦊 killer is not alone...

Jo the 🐿
Emily the 🐈
Heseltine the 🐶

They're all at it 😮

(Think Jo the 🐿 is gratuitous fake news though to be fair)

SingingLily · 26/12/2019 18:03

Emily Thornberry? A cat killer???

No. Redemption. 😡

HateIsNotGood · 26/12/2019 18:31

I have had a good think about this. I do not like at all what Emily Thornberry represents in nearly every respect; however she is a bit of a cleverclogs - and I'd rather a cleverclogs of the same Ilk as Boris clipping at his heels, to keep him in-line, upholding the promises he made to us, 'the people'.

Rather than a representive of a different 'construct' weakly challenging him, and losing on every point.

Like it or not, which I don't, possibly Thornberry is the next best Labour Leader.

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 19:16

I don’t know anything about cat killings

But on the train home today, I was thinking how weird it is that we don’t have an opposition. I really hope that Labour sort themselves out soon.

Songsofexperience · 26/12/2019 20:32

Yes, it's a rather toxic situation.

XingMing · 26/12/2019 20:50

Hello everyone, having passed yesterday in a fug of food (delicious) and wine (rather more than the doctor would approve -- except that our companions were doctors and cheerfully ignore the advice they dish out to patients), today has been slow enough to watch the Matthew Goodwin interview kindly posted by howabout.

I can't comment on bludgeoning foxes; we have a few, but DH is working very hard on controlling the squirrels who treat our bird table as their private cafeteria, and has shot four in two weeks, but they seem to have endless siblings and cousins. I do hope nobody is too appalled by this confession.

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 21:08

Xing I’d leave that aside, my opinion on that is irrelevant

The point is more that it’s Maugham of all people! That fox did not die in vain....this will unite so many people and shed so much light on Maugham.

It’s not like some random unknown person posted it.

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 21:24

The Gruffalo (reimagined)

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 21:33

Reckon he’ll be deleting his account tomorrow.

Random point, his agent is a very lovely man. Well, I’ve met him once. But I do wonder what he thinks about this. V hard to rep him right now!

AutumnRose1 · 26/12/2019 21:38

OMD he’s got “perform your values” in his bio.

I might actually die laughing.

Better than death by baseball bat 😂

DustyDiamond · 26/12/2019 22:43

He's always wound me up
Very smug & supercilious

yolofish · 26/12/2019 23:17

evenin all. having been fuelled on red wine and fags since Sunday (pub quiz, fell over dog on way home - pissed, black dog, dark night, could have happened to a bishop etc), taxi duty for DH work lunch on Mon, party here on xmas eve (pissed, late night), then inlaws for hours and hours on xmas day and today, had to go to bed for 2 hours this afternoon!

got Wine now though! thank you dustydiamond for highlighting my peace and love to all message on westminstenders - let's hope that 2020 can bring that for all of us.

SingingLily · 27/12/2019 06:59

Morning, All,

The weather has been a little kinder the last few days but a cold snap is on the way so the Landlady has ordered a fresh delivery of logs for the fire so the Arms will continue its tradition of a warm welcome to all (providing they observe the Pub Rule, of course!)

Today, the complimentary breakfast tray has a Scottish theme: eggs, bacon, Lorne sausage and tattie scones. Please help yourselves.

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

and wine (rather more than the doctor would approve -- except that our companions were doctors and cheerfully ignore the advice they dish out to patients)
That's like the old joke, Xing - the definition of "alcoholic" is someone who drinks more than their doctor.

Maugham? So far up his own backside but sadly, not far enough that we can't hear his voice anymore. His self-importance doesn't allow for shame so he won't understand the backlash. Love the meme, Dusty, but I'm fairly convinced he's not all that keen on adult human females as well.

Yolo, hope both you and the dog are OK. Sounds like a Christmas to remember.

Here at home, the Spectators have been stashed away out of sight and our rellies arrive later. His only topics of conversation are Labour Good/Tories Evil and football. She doesn't have any, just wants to smoke and drink herself silly. So that's four things we don't have in common (Mr Lily says she can smoke as much as she wants...outside on the terrace). Still, I'm cooking up a storm for them and will be the very model of a good host throughout, all smiles and bonhomie.

Roll on Sunday.

AutumnRose1 · 27/12/2019 10:25

Morning Lily

Breakfast looks fab.

I am going to go back over the thread and watch the links to Matthew someone....I think it's stopped raining so I can go for a walk. (I hate walking in the rain, but it's all slippery pavements and general urb round here).
