Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

Popped in to wish everyone season's greetings and found the Matthew Goodwin link which was great - almost at the end of it now and so much of it rings so true.
We do Christmas Eve in this house due to DH being German - lovely Stollen earlier Singing - so dinner is done, and we'll do the English version tomorrow.
Thanks to everyone who helped me keep the faith in recent weeks, let's keep the new spirit of optimism alive as the year winds to a close.
Enjoy!

scaryteacher · 24/12/2019 21:07

lily I need an afternoon zizz as i'm in my 50s, menopausal and tired from moving. Ds is 24, and shouldn't need to sleep every hour of the day. Too much PS4 imo.

HateIsNotGood · 24/12/2019 21:38

Dusty your pictures (I refuse to call them memes) are really hilarious - who will be the new 'where's bercow/wally' motif? You are a clever sausage.

For me, my exemplary moment today was reading Lily's post in regards to her niece, treasure hunts and her DN's position as the "future DG of GCHQ". My immediate understanding involved a grown woman in her 30s undertaking one of Auntie Lily's treasure hunts; just so happens she's also next in line for DG GCHQ....

On my third reading I was rather disappointed when I realized that the DN in question was only 10 and not actually GCHQ's next DG.

One of the few times I'm sad to be wrong.

Anyway, I've just finished pissed-wrapping, which went reasonably well - the only mishap possibly requiring a new landline handset (depends if it survives red wine saturation). DS has been advised that I'll be sitting on the end of his bed, early, poised to unwrap.

Drink might have been taken last night, but unfortunately on an empty stomach. So yes, I posted on the euphoria of a loud fart, which smelled awful. I am gentle with the feeble of intellect, mind, body and spirit in life, and a little less so with anyone who wants to impress me with their virtue. Apparently, I verge on autistic too.

Please buy your meat from small-time UK farmers; the welfare standards are better, the acres grazed are less intensive, and if you enjoy the country, livestock cultivation makes and keeps it pretty. And the food miles are lower too.

XingMing · 24/12/2019 21:49

And a happy Christmas, to you all, and your families. Eat well, drink responsibly and look forward xxx

derxa · 24/12/2019 21:55

Happy Christmas to all at The Arms

HateIsNotGood · 24/12/2019 21:57

Xing - we all can say things that come out the 'wrong' way when we mean something else entirely. I'm rather 'master-gifted' with that ability too.

And also completely agree with you about eat local; it's so needless to expect to eat everything you want all year round; besides the fact it tastes a bit shit too. Always good to look forward to a new season's crop - preferably.

XingMing · 24/12/2019 22:00

It did read epically wrong. That I concede!

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 22:14

Off to bed now - the fat lad has been to our house already (as soon as the kids went upstairs)

We all started getting fractious with each other so bedtime was called (just in time.... 😳)

Merry Xmas to all posters & lurkers however infrequent, and whatever political persuasion - love, peace & lashings of optimism to each & every one of us ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Night! 🍷

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 22:59

Just tidying up in the snug before I call it a night.

Dusty, glad to know that Santa is flying over the UK at last. Hope he brings you and your boys what you would like best.

Megan and Derxa, thank you and season's greetings to you and yours.

Xing, you'd love Booths, the Northern Waitrose; sources all of its meat and fish (plus as many other foods possible) from the independent farmers of the three counties of Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire.

Scary, OK, he deserves it Smile and if he burns the dinner, take his PS4 off him. For three days. At least.Grin

One of the few times I'm sad to be wrong.
Hate, you're not wrong, just a few years too early with your interpretation of events, that's all. GCHQ won't know what's hit them. Not only will she be the boss in next to no time but she'll make them keep their desks tidy while she's at it. Nothing but nothing escapes her eagle eyes.

Right, all is calm, all is bright now. Sleep well, everyone. Here's to a great day tomorrow for all of us.

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 25/12/2019 00:23

Just dipping in and reading back

Dirty... Drinking sherry... Out of which glass.

Years ago I brought loads of proper sherry glasses from charity shops when I was hosting a large Xmas.

Where are they now? I bought a small slim bottle of sherry, sainsbury but no glass for it...

Who sells them these days??.

Old fashioned schooner glasses..

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 25/12/2019 00:29

Poor people should eat offal 😂😂

My dm was a war baby I was raised on liver and kidney 😂😂.

'' poor people '' who generally can't afford meat have been known to have healthy diets compared to wealthier people, it's more like veg based And.. Cheaper cuts are used in Michelen starred restaurants.

TheWorldturnedUpsideDown · 25/12/2019 00:51

I'm very jealous of booths..

So, what a day.
Two dc ill taking it in turns to be screaming ill, one recovered totally the other is properly ill and missed everything this evening.

I did my first ever ham glaze, well dh did it first and it looked anemic! Poured runny, brown sugar, apple cider, apple cider vinegar over cooked ham and said it was so done 🙄.
He is ill, so an hour later I reduced the glaze, put it back in the oven basting and now.. We have a glazed ham 😁.

After dc asleep, I accidently dropped battery onto a guitar.
Dh stepped on something that popped like a gun.
And I set off the fire alarm twice with burning ham glaze.

Managed dd 7 expectations... We don't get everything we want... Sometimes we only get one thing.. We just have to hope for the best 😂😂.

Dh said he feels ill...

Thankfully tomorow is mainly shove in oven ready made!!
It's just us tomorow with family friend. Family on my side mostly deceased including dp... Sibling.. Dh family.....

Partly estranged and its wondeful.

The added bonus for me is that my friend coming is my main leave friend. Dh is remainer... So he gets a little silently wound up if we go into politics but when he's out the room we get some '' leave talk in '' apart from this place it's an oasis for me 😂😂. So have a fabulous Xmas my merry brexit armers 🎄🎄🎄🎄🌲🌲🌲🎊🎊🎊💖💖💖🎁🎁🙏🙏🙏 Keep praying for old sal.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 25/12/2019 01:07

Happy holidays to one and all in the Brexit Arms. It has been a hard few years but democracy won out. We can hold our heads up high, celebrate our freedom and start to heal our country.

A round of drinks for a toast. Sparkling wine for me.

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 07:13

Morning, all,

So let the bells 🔔 ring out for Christmas!

Merry Christmas, one and all, and may this be a day of peace, harmony and goodwill for everyone in the Brexit Arms and those we love.

It's a light breakfast this morning - we need to save room for the feast to come later. The tray is ready and on the bar so please help yourselves.

Season's greetings to World and Walking. You've had an eventful Christmas Eve, World! Hope your DH and children are feeling better this morning. Epic, the fondue party sounded great fun. Hope your DD is returning the favour and making you her world-famous waffles this morning (which will mean cleaning up the kitchen again but it will be so worth it!)

I'm not really expecting anyone to call in today but just in case, the kettle, as always, is on ☕️☕️☕️

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 07:14

Oops, forgot - here's breakfast.

howabout · 25/12/2019 09:55

Happy Christmas to all. Star

Lily baked grapefruit is our Christmas breakfast tradition.
Very peaceful household playing with the lego stocking fillers.
It's my DD2 who does the waffles but she's doing best middle child grinch atm cos her sister is home and she's got exams after Christmas.

Xing posted the MG link for you. Polarisation and all that.

World hope you are all on the mend today.

Off to evict someone from the bath and go and sing carols.

SingingLily · 25/12/2019 10:18

Morning, Howabout, and Merry Christmas! It does sound peaceful in your house.

I've just opened my present from DN. I bet she's already read it.

I'm doomed, aren't I?

Hope you all had a good day...just have to get he red cabbage out of the freezer for tomorrow, and clean the cat trays, and then bed. Was up to the small hours yesterday as had to get Mum after midnight mass, and she was serving and faffing about in the vestry afterwards.

Guests not here til 1300, so time fora slow start in the morning. Can veg out after they ahve gone and eat the bib bar of Lindt fruit and nut dh bought me. The last one I had, i bought in Vienna; hid it in the cupboard for when moving stress got too much, but evidently not well enough as dh bloody ate it. He has also visited the newish flapjack shop and bought me a box of flapjacks. He knows he can't go wrong with an edible stocking for me. Taken him the best part of 30 years to work that one out!

SingingLily · 26/12/2019 07:15

Morning, All,

Happy Boxing Day! What to do with the remains of the turkey and ham, the leftover Christmas pudding, whether the discarded wrapping paper can be recycled: these are today's challenges, but we are nothing if not ingenious.

A fortifying breakfast awaits on the tray on the bar, together with copious cups of tea and coffee. Please help yourselves.

Morning, Scary, eat the carefully hidden bar of fruit and nut? Your DH likes living dangerously, does he? Grin

Kettle's on ☕️☕️☕️

Dapplegrey · 26/12/2019 08:29

Happy Boxing Day everyone!

scaryteacher · 26/12/2019 10:11

After he ate my chocolate, every bar that was mine got my name sharpied on the wrapper. Everything else was fair game.

scaryteacher · 26/12/2019 10:14

It was more that it was a massive bar of Lindt Gold Fruit and nut that I had carefully brought back to Brussels from Vienna.

He now thinks that because he can get my Lindt in Devon, that he doesn't have to take me back to Vienna.....

SingingLily · 26/12/2019 10:51

Scary, you need a secret drawer. In the meantime, Ocado is your friend Wink

Just don't do what a poster on another thread did; put a dozen fresh chickens in the trolley in order to snaffle the delivery slot and then forgot all about it...till John in the Onion Van turned up.

howabout · 26/12/2019 10:56

Morning all. DH has the chocolate filled stocking in our house and 2 tins of sweeties. Then I steal from him. Xmas Grin

Annual new card / board game sess this morning. Last year it was a 3 day Monopoly event trying to prevent DD1 and DD2 killing each other and DD3 bursting into tears.

This year we have Unstable Unicorn which is a big Hit. DD1 is taking it back to Uni with her. DD2 seems to like it as much as Munchkin and DD3 is as engaged as if it was Pokemon.

I never join in as I am not allowed to win.

Jo M has started a massive backlash on twitter over his fox management. Almost as conflicted as when DH's vegetarian Uncle got rid of the fox bothering his hens only to find his garden over run by rabbits.
