Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

Lily re your niece it sounds like it will be her making the treasure hunt for you before long. That's what happens in our house. Fortunately the DC are impatient so very eager with helpful clues.

Feeling fab today because I put my proper reading glasses on and cracked the killer sudoku in half the time limit listening to Queen in concert last night.

Couldnt do that with my three, very well done to her

Ds1 does make me laugh

He said he would search the living room for a clue...completely forgetting we had been stood in the Living room while dh hid the clues

And dh is no ninja!

Just told ds1 about your hunt. He said

Ok...thats very cool

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 12:14

Now that did make me laugh, Rufus! I make my nieces lock themselves in the downstairs loo while I hide the clues, all bar one or two. While they are racing around upstairs, I hide the remaining clues in the downstairs loo. Still can't fool her, though. She always goes back and checks.

No stone unturned.

Not dragging the thread down or head-tilting.

Xing implied that the issue was simple disagreement. We who saw it know it was not.
It’s the kind of prevarication and misrepresentation that prevents the two sides from discussion. Of course it needs to be called out.

AutumnRose1 · 24/12/2019 12:44

I have to do Xmas things

Merry Christmas all!

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 13:10

Of course it needs to be called out.

And it was.

Yet still you persist 🤷🏻‍♀️

Perhaps start your own thread on the matter?

Tanith · 24/12/2019 13:31

“ Yet still you persist 🤷🏻‍♀️”

No, Dusty - you persist. We’re simply replying to you.

DuckWillow · 24/12/2019 13:47

Right, signing off to do all the Christmas stuff I am avoiding,

Have a great time everyone....here’s to 2020 🥂

howabout · 24/12/2019 14:17

So good worth posting on both threads.

Matthew Goodwin has a whole lexicon of language to avoid many of the cul-de-sacs these threads often descend into (espec the last 20 minutes).

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 14:48

Matthew Goodwin is pretty savvy, Howabout, so I look forward to watching that later.

Off on a tangent, I read in The Scotsman that Iain Murray is thinking of having a shot at the deputy leadership.

HateIsNotGood · 24/12/2019 14:56

Season's Greetings All - Champagne and Canapes please. For any of those with excess and unwanted Champagne, I can help you out there whenever you might need me.

I've brought my own Twiglets to the Party as I'm delighted to report that, whilst many claims have previously been made, and not 'cut it', Twiglets have gone back to their origins - I've finally purchased a pack of Twiglets 'Originals' that are the nearest (dammit) of the ones that came in the box. This may, or may not be, related to Brexit. As long as I can get some more.........

Recently I've found that I'm too lazy to provide links to my assertions, words, rememoires, etc - that's only because I used to (since Ref) meticulously research things (because that's what I do) and post links - but on deaf ears, the sounds of their own posts resonating too loudly, so I stopped.

Then I found the bonhomie of The Arms, where all are welcome and humour, debate and civility prevails.

As well as accommodating of the unlimited differences between us. Anyway, it is true that one of the reasons I voted to Leave was because of the negative impacts on the low-paid UK worker.

Amongst all the noise created the past 3 years about the provable postive economic benefits of EU FOM, the negative impacts on the low-paid were little heard, despite being in the same reports as those stating the positive effects.

My own conclusion is that's why the Base Labour Voters left. Anyways, my Xmas present is the basic link below, which you can now research at your own leisure:

Throws log on fire - glugs Champagne, orders more, looks at H knowingly.

howabout · 24/12/2019 15:56

Very much depends how the Labour Party leadership election pans out whether it makes sense for Ian Murray to run for Deputy. Otoh he has an opportunity to be a voice at the top table as the whole party pulls back together but otoh the greater risk is that he ends up getting blamed by SNP and Scottish Labour voters for a future impending mess.

Also just because he stands does not mean he will be elected. He is not on the same page as a lot of Holyrood Labour and could expose a lot of cracks just at the wrong time for them ahead of 2021 Scottish elections.

Thistimetomorrow · 24/12/2019 16:15

Dropping in to wish everyone a Happy Christmas.
Christmas prep very easy for me. I’ve taken a leaf out of Boris’ book. Turkey and stuffing bought in tinfoil trays and ‘oven ready’.
DH had a bonus Christmas Eve off so had a helper to prep veg. As requested apple crumble (not very Christmassy) cooking in the oven.
Settled down to a night of binge watching of Travellers on Netflix.
Seasons greetings to all x

HateIsNotGood · 24/12/2019 16:37

Sometimes I really do appreciate that it's just DS and me - we have so much more freedom to just find our own ways - and neither of us feel like we're missing out on anything, have to answer to anyone, feel inferior or superior to anyone - confident enough to laugh anyone's judgements away.

Of course it hasn't been a simple path for us to follow, and we're not at the end yet, but it's a great feeling to know that I can hand over some of the navigation to DS. Just need a Rayburn and a view again, then my job will be done, and new life will begin.

scaryteacher · 24/12/2019 16:42

Have done the queue for the turkey (Howells, Xing, but I'll try your recommend next year, or I could Food Hub it) and ham. Ham in oven, cranberry sauce made, ingredients for stuffing out and ds can do the pigs in blankets in revenge for having a siesta this afternoon. Obviously being up before midday, even having had a breakfast bap and a festive hot chocolate in my favourite cafe. Wusses, the younger generation!

Debombing kitchen, and then have to sort out a room for Mum and wrap pressies. Have time, as we have to go to church tonight so we can bring Mum back with us. Ds can cook dinner as penance for sleeping.

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 17:25

More or less the same for us Hate
My parents & g'ma live at the opposite end of the country, my sister & family live in NZ now - so it's just me and my boys doing our own Xmas together

I love it - no stress at all, go out for Xmas dinner together & slob out together
A Skype to NZ is the only thing we need to do (which will likely be later tonight 😍)

Merry Xmas to all fellow Armers, and wishing you all a fab & enjoyable day tomorrow!
Hope Santa is good to everyone!! xxx

🍷 💐 🎄 🎅🏻

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 17:28

I am pleased to report that according to NORAD, Santa has left Tajikistan and is heading for Samarkand, and he has already delivered over two billion presents.

So excited!

TheGhostOfEpicPast · 24/12/2019 17:31

Hey all!

I’ve made the gravy, prepped the veg, buttered and stuffed the turkey (asked him to vote for christmas 😉), boshed a large glass of red and now all that is finished, I thought I must pop in and Wish you lovely lovely bunch, a very, very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Onwards and upwards folks, hopefully 2020 will be THE best year ever!!

🎄🎄🎄🍷

HateIsNotGood · 24/12/2019 17:45

OMG! Norad Santa - if ds had known about this gawd knows how much 'magic' he might have missed.

So 'rogue' but sometimes I just want DS to go out and get a [willing] girl pregnant, pretend to live in a hostel (Cos me and other GM are being salt of earthish) get some social housing and I'll just fuck off and explore for a year or two.

I know it's awful - but, I do own that thought too,

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 17:47

I'm delighted to see you, Epic!

Pretty much the same here, Dusty and Hate. My sister lives two hours away so we'll FaceTime tomorrow (although we had a practice Christmas at hers on Sunday).

Scary, that's a lot of penance for your DS...Smile

My very best wishes for a peaceful Christmas to all the regulars on here and here's to 2020! And don't forget, you must be asleep when he visits or the magic won't work...

time4chocolate · 24/12/2019 20:10
