Brexit Arms - Out with the old and in with the new

It’s time again for another Brexit Arms thread to see us into Christmas and beyond.

Well what a week it’s been!!

Boris has now completed his first week and he’s been busy. New conservatives have been sworn in, the Queens Speech yesterday shows promise (aware that the proof of the (Xmas) pudding is in the eating) and Boris’ Deal is going to be voted on today with the results being around 3pm I believe.

Meanwhile, on the other side all four wheels have definitely fallen off the red bus and were very nearly joined by a garden gate and a car door. Oh dear!!

Anyway, I have added a few more Christmas decs to the pub and popped the fairy back on the tree (it took a nasty tumble)

We are now good to go.
Cheers all 🍷🍷

Ps. If anyone wants to volunteer for outside catering that would be👍🏻

castingangs we are not of one hive mind here as I expect you aren’t either.

Anyway, if you are planning on stopping then help yourself to a mulled 🍷and a mince 🥧.

Autumn not been to one myself but would be interested to hear from anyone that has.

Autumn, I'm guessing your mother at 81 has lived through many a bad time, unfortunately, but yes, I understand that instinct of wanting to protect.

Let's hope that your former friend takes the opportunity for reflection and starts to question herself. Good people do bad things sometimes but learn from it.

😂Hiding the Spectator from the rellies. Never been to an event - too far from here - but they do have some good things going on and their speakers are definitely not drawn from just one school of thought. If you go, please let me know what you think.

Catsingangs, if you want to add comment on the discussions going on in this thread, you are of course entirely welcome to do so. However, when it comes to reacting to discussions on a quite different thread, the most appropriate place to post your reaction is over there, surely?

Tanith · 24/12/2019 10:42

“ Oh dear, as some of you have seen, I fell among Westminsterenders. They are not kind there, if you disagree with them. Ouch!”

I thought you were deleted by MNHQ for disablist views and language?

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 10:44

Did you head tilt as you typed Tanith?

It feels as though you head-tilted

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 10:49

TBF - @AutumnRose1 did bring up Xing and her comments herself on 'the other thread' on this thread.

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 10:55

Fair enough, Chomalungma, but Autumn hasn't tried to reproduce the discussion here, simply made it clear it would not have been tolerated here. I got there too late to see what the deleted posts contained and there were very few Arms regulars in evidence on this thread at that time so I suspect most would not know what had happened.

Why all the attempts to bring it over here?

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 10:58

Why are you all here picking over the bones of something that happened on another thread last night?

Like vultures.

From what I read this morning, Xing made some random connections between different things which didn't really make much sense.
Some of which wasn't particularly nice.

Was rightly challenged/reported on the thread in question & MNHQ dealt with said posts (although left enough posts with copied quotes to see the gist of what had been said)

Autumn made a comment to Xing as one regular on this thread to another

It's really fucking annoying that some people feel it's necessary to try & drag this thread down tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️

Maybe start another fresh thread if you're that invested in it?

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 10:58

Actually xing brought it over herself

Oh dear, as some of you have seen, I fell among Westminsterenders. They are not kind there, if you disagree with them. Ouch

I suspect the comments are in response to that. If you had seen what she had written, maybe people on here would have disagreed with her as well.

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 11:01

Again, why are you determined to drag this thread down into petty arguments by pecking over the remains of something that happened yesterday on a different thread, and got called out & dealt with at the time?

It's beyond bizarre tbh

Go start your own thread if it's such an important subject for you 🤷🏻‍♀️

I think with regard to chlorination it’s less to do with the cleansing process and more to do with the farming practices.
There’s a reason we have much lower rates of salmonella and campylobacter. We can say there’s no overall body to regulate farming practices but fact is we are farming in a better and less infection prone way than the US....and that is why I don’t want their chlorinated chicken. Thankfully we do have the Food Standards Agency here who would (I hope) monitor this all closely.
Personally I’d want such chicken labelled clearly with regard to its source so I can avoid it.

DuckWillow · 24/12/2019 11:05

....and I’ve clearly missed whatever went on yesterday.

Happy Christmas Eve to everyone though.

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 11:06

It's beyond bizarre tbh

You may have noticed that other posters on here commented on it - and responded to it. Including you.

Aren't people allowed to respond to those responses?

Still, Xing revealed their true colours last night. I guess alcohol can do that.

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 11:06

Personally I’d want such chicken labelled clearly with regard to its source so I can avoid it.

I'd extend that to all food sold in this country, Duck. Clear labelling is a must.

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 11:08

I think with regard to chlorination it’s less to do with the cleansing process and more to do with the farming practices

This - and the standard response about 'chlorine is in tap water, swimming pools and is used to clean salads'' is used to ignore the underlying farming practices.

But - as has been pointed out - we will have full control over our laws and imports so we will be able to control and regulate our food imports to ensure it comes to the highest standards of food safety and animal welfare.

Which is a good thing about leaving the EU and taking back control.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 24/12/2019 11:09

Another one who hasn’t got a clue what’s going on < carries on drinking sherry >

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 11:09

Clear labelling is a must

Hopefully they will also ensure that all the ingredients are labelled - and not just the major allergens.

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 11:12

This might surprise you and it might not, Chomalungma, but I'm all in favour of our Parliament being held responsible and being held to account on this and many other issues instead of shrugging their shoulders and pointing to the EU. I happen to think too many of our politicians have been stealing a living for years. Time for them to do their proper jobs and earn an honest crust.

chomalungma · 24/12/2019 11:13

but I'm all in favour of our Parliament being held responsible and being held to account on this and many other issues instead of shrugging their shoulders and pointing to the EU

No more "But the EU made me do it" Grin

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 11:14

No more "But the EU made me do it"

Correct! And on this, I'm pleased to note that we agree.

DustyDiamond · 24/12/2019 11:15

choma, it just feels like some people want to resurrect & cause fresh conflict over something that was (rightly) addressed & dealt with at the time

There's no need for that imo

Anyhoo,
No more "But the EU made me do it"
Grin

👆 Ab-so-fucking-lutely this. 100%

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 11:21

So, back to baking. The orange pastry for mince pies is chilling in the fridge. I've added chopped walnuts and brandy to the mincemeat so it's just resting. Next up is the pastry for the smoked salmon tartlets.

Remind me again. Why do we put ourselves through all this?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 24/12/2019 11:23

Just been out to breakfast and the ‘children’ did their treasure hunt to find the last day of their advent calendar

Sitting down for a coffee before going to the pub shed for drinks with a few friends, i just wanted to pop in before it all gets too busy

I wish all of you a very very Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year...i hope 2020 is everything you want 🎄

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 24/12/2019 11:26

Sorry...remembered something

Last year 19 year old ds1 fell on the stairs when all three of them raced upstairs to find another clue...all i could hear.... in a very pained voice...was

‘Its fine...go on without me’

Brought to mind those classic war movies Grin

SingingLily · 24/12/2019 11:33

Morning, Rufus, and Christmas wishes to you too. Your DS1, so brave.

I did a treasure hunt on Sunday for my little nieces (one of whom is the future Director General of GCHQ, trust me). The clues were not only colour coded but each clue hinted at one letter. Once all the letters were identified, they had to be placed in order of the colours of the rainbow to form a cryptic sentence that revealed the location of the treasure. She smashed it.

She's only 10. God knows what I'll do when she turns eleven. My brain is already burned out.

howabout · 24/12/2019 12:01

Morning all (just) Brew

Just sat down after trip to the butcher, potato peeling session and a huge pile of ironing.
Checked his opening hours yesterday only to discover he starts work at 7am Shock. No wonder he is properly chipper by the time I go in on my way back from the school run.

Merry Christmas All.
