As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

The Magical Blue Passport!

Mine ran out some time ago and I never got around to renewing it. Pleased now that I didn't. Will now put it on my 'to-do' list for the New Year.

I believe that Boris is utterly serious about levelling up the country and I believe that he will open up the North again to growth and development.

There's a very interesting thread about what Northern voters want. Nearly everyone said transport improvements. Just from holidaying in the north, I can see that more frequent cross country services, with longer trains, would be hugely beneficial. Huge potential for tourism, as well as local benefits. And would win points with the Green lobby, too, if it helped to take cars off the roads.

But I think Boris needs to prepared to be ruthless with any bureaucracy that gets in his way. Major infrastructure initiatives aren't going to come to fruition quickly, but they do need to be showing some returns before the next GE.

TheCatsPjammas · 16/12/2019 16:08

What Evs Epic. Cap locks sound angry.
It’s the equivalent of shouting in RL. There’s other ways to put views across.

Glad Boris has given assurances, not sure I’m convinced by anything he says though. How can you say something one week and say the contrary the next?

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 16:10

But I think Boris needs to prepared to be ruthless with any bureaucracy that gets in his way

Spot on, Mary. And he is. The process has started (and speaking as a former civil servant, is seriously overdue).

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 16:15

“What Evs Epic. Cap locks sound angry.

What right do you have, to wade in to the middle of a tense situation that had nothing to do with you and tell me how to behave and how to write?

Is it just me? I don’t run around telling other people on other threads what to do and hiw to conduct their own conversations? Why is the Brexit Arms always fair game for it?

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 16:17

CatsPjammas, I was happy to engage with you in constructive debate but you are being provocative now.

Give it a rest now.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 16:17

And for clarity. It was meant to sound ANGRY. I was ffing ANGRY. But you didn’t ask or care about that did you? You just waded in and told me what I should do. Join the queue, you are a bit late to that party. I have a wardrobe full of those t-shirts.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 16:19

Actually, that’s not entirely true, I did once get involved in a grim convo about goebbels, but other than that. Nope, not running around telling anyone on other threads how to behave.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 16/12/2019 16:22

And on that note, I really am out for a bit. See you later guys! I’m sure there’s a fair few who won’t be too unhappy about that! 😉😂

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 16:22

You will come back though?

DustyDiamond · 16/12/2019 16:23

Again, I wonder who people will blame for their ills when they can no longer blame the EU.

Again, (has been said numerous tones on these threads) the govt & Parliament will be wholly accountable for all things when we are no longer subject to the EU

This is but one area which was part of my decision to vote to leave

As for the rest of your post - 😴 - yet more of the same stuff that we've addressed on numerous occasions on these threads

If you want to lash out at someone, we are not your verbal punch bag

I will take a verbal beating from no one in real life, and will not do so on here

Neither does any other poster on this thread have to dance on demand

So if you’re gloating on this thread just reign it in

No

These threads have been running since the EU Ref

We have been subject to sustained abuse, goading & gloating in that time

As leave supporters, we have been patient and exercised our voice & anger via the ballot box in the most peaceable of ways

We are celebrating the fact that our winning vote will now be enacted

It is not up to you, nor anyone else, to dictate our behaviour (providing we stick to MN talk guidelines obviously)

It is certainly not for you to demand that posters 'reign in' their delight at democracy being enacted

I don’t know at the moment tbh Lily, I’m really sick and tired of it all... it’s just relentless.
Sorry Flowers

SingingLily · 16/12/2019 16:25

Have a break, Epic, but not forever.

Place wouldn't be the same.

DustyDiamond · 16/12/2019 16:29

The same for the rest, until it happens to you.

This is one of the most tired & boring tropes on MN & of the 'caring left' who #Care! about the #Poor! & #Disaffected!

I have been on the most basic of benefits for in excess of four years

I voted Tory for Brexit & also for policies

Do not fall into the trap of lumping all working class or Poor! into a lumpen mass of collective identity

I am as capable of independent thought and analysis as the next person

So are millions of others

Cats it is endlessly frustrating to have posters "educating us" on the basis of cherry picked snippet quotes. Most of the regulars in here have been following his rake's progress since before he was London Mayor.

If all the mud being slung was in any way representative then it is kind of perplexing that London, of all places, elected him as Mayor and then voted him in for a second term. There were lots of reasons he didn't get on with Project Cameron and opted out of Westminster. The "Hostile environment" was one of them but actually much of the legislation underpinning it dates back to Blair.

It is absolutely no surprise to me that he wants a level playing field on immigration. I am also certain he will honour pledges on settled status. However in order to create the level playing forward going forward it is necessary to indicate clearly where the line is being drawn between honouring past expectations and the future. Everyone needs to be fully informed and the bureaucracy has to be properly maintained. No-one wants another Windrush - a product of both Labour and Tory sloppiness on this issue.

DustyDiamond · 16/12/2019 16:35

Calm down, less of the cap locks.

YoU Do NoT gET tO dIcTAtE HoW pEoPlE ChOoSE tO AcT oR TYpE

One rule: don't be a twat

(Twatting includes, but is not limited to: demanding we jump & dance to your poxy tune, demanding we post in a certain way, demanding we post on certain subjects only, dictating how you think we should behave, dictating opinions which you think are acceptable fodder)

NB: the Twatting definition applies to 'general you', not aimed at any one poster.

L8rs Epic. Flowers Brew COME BACK SOON!!! Xmas Smile

(cap locks for emphasis and in solidarity. Also typo in my hyper restrained missive above cos of the effort and no matter how many times I type it I will never learn to spell bureaucracy)

Just reported:

"In a bid to force Mr Corbyn’s hand, Labour staff [in the Leader's Office] are now reported to be preparing to put a strike motion to a vote at their next GMB union branch meeting if they are still in post in the new year.

According to Buzzfeed News, the proposal will be moved on the grounds of “institutional racism” and “mismanagement” that has resulted in “hardworking staff” losing their jobs.
One of the organisers told the website: "The fact that people who oversaw this culture and also devised the strategy that delivered the worst election defeat in 35 years have ended up hanging onto their jobs is not only embarrassing but also disgraceful.
"Any self-respecting trade unionist will support that staff in the Labour Party have to stand up and make their voices heard."

I think the Labour Party is now eating itself.

TheCatsPjammas · 16/12/2019 16:55

All I will say is BorisJohnson made that comment only last week. It upset me and made me feel unwelcome. I only stated what I felt. Suppose I’m supposed to believe what he says this week.

I’ll leave you all to it.

time4chocolate · 16/12/2019 16:57

Think we need a Brexit Arms collective YAWN😴.

(I did CAPs lock for solidarity and I added bold😁)

✊🌹

Thank you 🕊🍷

It certainly would appear to be the case Singing, whether anything positive comes out of it or not we will have to wait and see.

DustyDiamond · 16/12/2019 17:04

I wonder if Corbz & co will go and stand in solidarity on their picket line as they so often have with other strikers 🤔

Mary Sidney

Totally agree, browns comment to that lady was a water shed moment. It symbolised the diversion between labour leadership and its core. The lack of compassion, understanding for their issues, the superiority etc etc ext.

time4chocolate · 16/12/2019 17:09

Don’t know whether I may be a bit late to the party with this (been holed up at work all day) but just reading that Boris is bringing his WA back on Friday. Should be interesting.
