As ever, all are welcome - only one rule:

DON'T BE A TWAT!!

Note: I am a shit host, and not a patch on previous Landladies - I don't cook, I don't clean & I don't prepare drinks. I am a selfish bellend. If you want feeding, there's a microwave in back & a shop down the road. If you want drinks just help yourself 😘 - it's a free bar 🎉🥳🎈

Now Johnson has stripped allows that unnecessary stuff out of the WA it will sail through! Cheers! Brew

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 07:59

I’m still conflicted because nobody can predict what will happen

I'm optimistic, Duck. We've had years of stagnation and as you say, there are other pressing problems that the country needs clear direction on. This is our big chance. Boris is clearly thinking in terms of ten years and that's how long it will take for some of those structural problems to be addressed.

Hope all changes for the better for your son after Christmas too. I'm guessing lots of preparation and time to adjust is the key?

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 08:00

Morning, Zerofeeling, more ☕️ on the bar for you.

zerofeeling · 20/12/2019 08:00

Ooh dear, that IS an unfortunate autocomplete - Johnson stripped! 😱

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 08:12

Yes I agree there Zero . I remember when Claire Khaw made a big noise about joining the Conservatives. Two weeks later she was making more big noise as they booted her out the moment they realised who she was.

I am the definition of a floating voter but they definitely got my vote at the next election based upon that.

corduroyal · 20/12/2019 08:14

Duck willow*

I’m still conflicted because nobody can predict what will happen.*

They can have a fairly good bet. Trade disruption, trouble at Irish border, lack of investment, loss of key sectors like finance, public spending cuts targeted at the worst off

I just want to see some movement on it all so the Govt can then go back to doing what it should be doing which is addressing the big concerns of health/education etc.

No way, brexit is going to dominate politics for a decade at least. And there will be less money to spend on all those things

But still, at least we'll have bendy cucumbers

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 08:32

You'll be grand 🦆

It's weird getting back into it & EXHAUSTING! but I'm loving it tbh

Just being able to gossip about inane stuff with other adults & having a distraction from all the politics which had started to consume me in the end 😳

It's weird as well but having something to do with structure has given me more impetus to get on with other stuff that I'd normally have let slide because 'I've all the time in the world' to do it...!

I def needed a few years out of things but was very, very ready to get back into the world at large

But still, at least we'll have bendy cucumbers

🙌

And bendy bananas, and stronger hoovers, and blue passports etc etc

Because it was purely on those issues that the leave campaign got my vote!

🙄🙄🙄

Morning all! I am avoiding the bar, I can't continue eating carbs the way I have been....it's obscene 😅

I envy you your new job @DustyDiamond, I work part time in a quiet office alone 😭 , I'd love some human company to chat with.

I've just watched the video of Corbyn slamming the car door!! I feel like we need more awards to hand out to public figures; angriest public display, the out-of-touch olympics, fingers-in-ears trophy etc.

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 08:54

corduroyal the Irish issue is my biggest concern.

Brexit is happening like it or not. I voted are win based upon the lack of information about what Brexit actually meant.

Of people who voted Leave (around 70% in my town) a percentage will have been well read on the issues so were able to take an informed decision on the vote.
A percentage will have been influenced by the media which is controlled by billionaire media moguls who don’t like the EU.
A very small percentage (I hope and pray they are a small percentage) will be like my neighbour who thought voting Leave meant immigration would stop and people would be sent back to “where they come from.”
The same small percentage believed the bendy bananas thing too.

I do think information was appalling for people being asked to vote on such a key issue though.

DuckWillow · 20/12/2019 08:54

Remain not “are win”.

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 08:55

Morning, Boswell. That door slamming moment is a real treat, isn't it? He would have been such as asset to the Diplomatic Service.

We need a new thread, fellow Armers. Anyone want to step forward? Come on now, be brave!

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 09:00

There's very little to envy Boswell 😂😂

It is very subjective...

I'm the bottom of the heap, lowest grade, paper shuffler - proper unskilled entry level stuff in the civil service (MoD)

When I left the RAF I was a decent rank, quite a bit of responsibility, great pay & a fast paced job (was an aircraft techie - mostly worked on flying squadrons over the years - proper physical, mentally challenging job)

What I'm doing now is perfect for me at this time - I can forget about work when I go home & have lots of time for wandering around & general gossiping & skiving

The money is shit, the job itself is mind-numbingly boring, but the benefits outweigh the negatives

My life is boring & small - but I love it 😍

Without whom, nothing works and nothing is achieved. People at work used to wonder how I managed to drive change forward so quickly and so decisively. It was simple. My allies were the admin staff, the staff in the post room and the control room, the works staff, the staff servicing the vehicles. I'd ask and they'd make time for me.

It's a team effort, always.

Morning allBrew

Speaking of team effort .....

Happy to volunteer myself for another stint behind the bar, however, I haven’t honed my skills since last time so catering would still be non-existent (I’m only up for liquid refreshment and the odd packet of crisps, or maybe a warm mince pie if your lucky) and the service would be patchy. Forwarned is forearmed and all thatSmile

SingingLily · 20/12/2019 09:41

That would be fantastic, Time4!

You've got my vote. 🗳 ✅

BoswellSolver · 20/12/2019 09:41

Seconded. Thanks time4chocolate

BangersNmashNgravy · 20/12/2019 09:54

I’ve been keeping a low profile as Brexit and all the vitriol has sapped my energy but I’ve been keeping up to date with the Arms thread and enjoying the banter.
I hope the present LL will allow me to throw this on the jukebox. I was listening to it and thought it summed up our 3 and a half years Brexit journey to a tee.
Apologies, that some of the video content at the beginning isn’t applicable, but the words just spoke to my heart.
I know that some are a little apprehensive clicking on links so if this is the case please feel free to search yourself.

Morning all

I thought what Hopkins said to Warsi ought to get her kicked off Twitter....I bloody hope the Conservatives ban certain members.

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 10:28

Welcome Bangers Brew

And to all other newcomers, eternal lurkers & new lurkers 🍷✊

Also looking forward to Time4 taking over the reins & taking us into Xmas and a NEW DECADE!!!!! 😮😮😮

I blinked and we leapt from 1999 to 2020 somehow 😱

Am feeling hugely optimistic about everything - looking forward to the future

Of people who voted Leave (around 70% in my town) a percentage will have

I don't think theorising like this helps anyone personally. I think there's still this argument hanging around that if only leaver voters had "more information" then they would have voted remain.

But you cannot possibly know that. It could equally result in people validating their initial thoughts and sticking with their decision. Many people may have voted on gut instinct or had made their minds up well in advance anyway. I knew how I was going to cast my vote in the referendum well in advance and nothing in the remain campaign made me change my mind. My feelings on the direction of the EU had been formed over many years, I didn't need "more information".

At the end of the day, it was one vote per person in the referendum. Yes some people may have cast their vote on reasons that other people don't like. I think that sticks with Remainers. That voters in Lincolnshire and Cumbria voted for something against the interest of the London centric media, businesses and establishment. I mean JP Morgan and Goldman Sachs wrote checks for Remain. It must have stung knowing that their preference was overturned by people outside the London bubble. They never thought it would happen.

DustyDiamond · 20/12/2019 10:30

Didn't see what Hopkins said - off to 👀 now...

Also agree that the Tories need to be ruthless about stamping down on shitty behaviour & purging any pockets of far right infiltration

OP posts:
Saucery · 20/12/2019 10:36

I consider Hopkins’ tweet to be bordering on incitement to racial hatred, frankly.
