The Brexit Arms. Is this Ben Elton? Is it free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone or a Corb-free Christmas 🎄?

Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

They should have blocked all new posters for 24 hours I think...

ArseDarkly · 12/12/2019 10:10

Good to hear there seems to be a big turnout - that's good for democracy!

Hollycatberry · 12/12/2019 10:13

I think it’s fine to have some politics corner threads running, and obvs the long running threads here and FWR, but the AIBU shitfest makes a mockery of this site today tbh

Agree Epic I've no issue with a few threads in AIBU even as naturally people are going to want to talk about it. But the same poster starting multiple threads all quite nasty in their tone isn't right on election day.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 10:14

“Good to hear there seems to be a big turnout - that's good for democracy!”

Enjoy it, If Corbyn and his crones get in, it might be the last time any of us ever participate in a true democracy without coercion.

Hollycatberry · 12/12/2019 10:18

Bit early to talk about turnout surely? Polls have only been open 3 hours and anecdotal "my polling station looked busy this morning" doesn't tell us much. I imagine as its a winter election, more people will go before work to save turning out later tonight.

Socialism > end stage socialism...

End stage socialism > Marxism...

Marxism > end stage Marxism...

End stage Marxism > Communism...

Communism > End stage Communism.

End stage Communism > we are all fucked.

XingMing · 12/12/2019 11:28

Voted, as has DH and DS. DS fears that our little patch could be turning red. The demographics and psycho-demographics have changed a huge amount locally, especially in this ward.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 12:15

“Voted, as has DH and DS. DS fears that our little patch could be turning red.”

Keeping fingers crossed for you all that it doesn’t... 😬

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 12:31

Our very attractive Labour candidate/firefighter has been canvassing up our road on his big red fire engine...sigh

....so I'm off to hold my nose and do what I know I must before the shallow side of me gets a look in.

Must stay strong!

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 12:34

Please do Greenish! Then come back and have a drink with us.

DustyDiamond · 12/12/2019 12:36

Stay strong Greenish!!

Avert your gaze!

ajandjjmum · 12/12/2019 12:38

I am surprised that state property such as a fire engine is allowed to support a particular candidate! Grin Just sayin'

DustyDiamond · 12/12/2019 12:39

Diane Abbott putting left foot forward... 😳

Not just ODD shoes, but two left feet 🤦🏻‍♀️🥴

Guido says "Rumour has it she's got another pair the same at home" 😂😂

Twattage13 · 12/12/2019 12:45

I've also voted - I could really murder a beer as I can't concentrate on anything due to nerves. However I'm a) working from home and b) really ought to go for a run. So I'll stick with water for now.

Limer · 12/12/2019 12:47

Voted in the pouring rain, as a bonus the mobile butcher was in the car park, so I got 6 pork chops for £5 Grin

Dismal weather here! Lots of people voted before work, so they don't have to brave the elements later.

LOL at Diane! Was that photo taken today? She has been conspicuous by her absence from the campaign, is she OK? Genuine question, I hope she's not ill.

Saucery · 12/12/2019 12:53

Poor DA! (not something I find myself saying very often). Hope she is ok, that’s a weird thing to get wrong and not notice before you’ve gone very far. Sad

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 12/12/2019 12:54

I wonder what effect the bad weather will have on the election?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 12:56

“Poor DA! (not something I find myself saying very often). Hope she is ok, that’s a weird thing to get wrong and not notice before you’ve gone very far. sad”

It’s 😱 isn’t it... 😬. She needs an intervention.

Saucery · 12/12/2019 12:57

Highly populated areas, maybe not such an effect as more sparsely ones, I would have thought.
It really is up to everyone to sort out a proxy or postal vote in good time, though. Bad Weather In Winter isn’t an excuse not to vote in this day and age imo, not is it any great surprise. I don’t have any patience with people who whine there shouldn’t be an election Because December.

Hollycatberry · 12/12/2019 12:59

so I got 6 pork chops for £5

Keep your chops hidden, if Corbz gets in he might come for them!

Limer · 12/12/2019 13:00

I was wondering that dirty I guess it'll reduce turnout as compared to if today was a beautiful summer's day, but if people have decided to vote, they'll make sure they do. Maybe a handful are thinking, "when it stops raining I'll go and vote" but if it never stops, they'll end up not voting.

I'll be interested to see the statistics when they're published.

Am planning on taking a little nap after tea, so I won't fall asleep and miss any excitement later!

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 13:03

Off to pick up my DD in a bit, she’s had to come home to vote. The council have cocked up her registration to vote in her marginal UNI constituency. Not once have they cocked up, but twice so frustrating. Sadly she will be vote stacking in our safe seat now instead, but hey ho, a lot of her friends are going blue in the marginal, so thats something I guess... 🤷🏻‍♀️😡.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 12/12/2019 13:05

It’s doubly frustrating as it’s a super tight potential swing marginal too. Note many votes in it at all....

GreenishMe · 12/12/2019 13:06

Ok, it's done - and I did stay strong :)

I am surprised that state property such as a fire engine is allowed to support a particular candidate!

DS said the same thing. I think it's a decommissioned engine - gets used in the carnivals too. Was probably for effect....trying to lure silly, shallow women who are old enough to know better, like myself.

It nearly worked didn't work though.....so neh!

Limer · 12/12/2019 13:09

Keep your chops hidden, if Corbz gets in he might come for them!

I think Saint Jeremy is a vegetarian, but good point - he'll probably commandeer them as rations for the jam factory workers! Shock

Epic What a pain for your DD! I'll be interested to hear all the various tales of election cockups by councils, and any electoral fraud that comes to light after the event.
