The Brexit Arms. Is this Ben Elton? Is it free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone or a Corb-free Christmas 🎄?

Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

Morning, Twattage, barm exactly to your requirements here, plus ☕️

Before the delivery driver knocked on the door - no, it wasn't a vanload of leftover LibDem spam - Lewis Goodall on Sky was out and about in Leigh, next door to Wigan (another place where I used to live).

Leigh has always been dyed-in-the-wool red, ex mining town, ex cotton mills. It's looking like it might do the unthinkable and turn blue.

Still all to play for.

In the meantime, DH has been out to the village shop for newspapers and milk. He reckons he's peak-transed a few neighbours along the way. He's furious.

Lily electoral calculus is backing you up on that: www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/seatdetails.py?seat=Leigh

Sadly it's not going in the right direction in my constituency, it looks like it's going to turn into a safe Labour seat with Momentum in situ :(.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 11/12/2019 12:59

“Sadly it's not going in the right direction in my constituency, it looks like it's going to turn into a safe Labour seat with Momentum in situ sad.”

😞😞😞

XingMing · 11/12/2019 13:10

Clucking bells Twattage, you're in the glorious west too aren't you? I fear that our corner of heaven is more marginal than it has ever been (thanks to the woke crowd who've moved into the posher houses here).

And I am stunned by Lily's varied talents and accomplishments. No one has ever taught me really useful skills like that, though I knew about wetwork from a lamentable fondness for crime fiction and thrillers.

Not long now... and all will be revealed.

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 13:13

Aargh, Twattage, I'm sorry I looked at that site now.

Even with the latest MRP figures, it's not looking majorly decisive for the country although my constituency is still looking safe.

Can't do a meme to cheer you up so here's some newspaper art instead. This reminds me of one of the reasons why I had to leave my beloved North. I spent so many pointless hours on the East Lancs Road, I once asked my boss if my ashes could be scattered there as well. He thought I was joking.

“More than 100 victims of IRA bombings have written to Jeremy Corbyn demanding a meeting and seeking an apology for what they see as his historic sympathies for terrorists.

In a letter the families call on the Labour leader and shadow chancellor John McDonnell “to hear first hand about the lasting impact of terrorism on innocent families”.”

Xing I am in the west however I vote in London (which is where I live for work in the week). The area I live in at the weekend is very, very blue!

XingMing · 11/12/2019 13:45

Breathing a sign of relief Twattage!

XingMing · 11/12/2019 14:04

Or a sigh... but I am worried for users of the East Lancs Road: 147 years of work? Did it take so long to build? Are the Romans still hard at it?

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 14:09

😂Xing, if the Romans had built it, it would have been (a) a straight road; (b) tree-lined, and (c) finished about 1800 years ago. It also wouldn't have so many potholes.

What did the Romans ever do for us, eh?

Don't you just love all those posters that say, "I'm not trying to tell you how to vote but look at this link to Labour froth and emotion?

If I knew that disengaging my brain before joining Mumsnet was an imperative, I would have given it a swerve and opted for a more balanced website like Reddit Smile

I'm also a bit disenchanted with Sir John Curtice. All week I've been working on my Watchlist of key constituencies, ready for my two-hour stint as Landlady on the Special Election edition. He's only gone and filched all of my hard work and published it in the Telegraph today.

Psephologists. You just can't trust them.

Right, I’ve turned off Sky,(nearly threw something at the tv) because they are just dragging out rich Celebs (that I used to like) and their fucking sanctimonious (‘we know best, idiots’) opinions (I’m looking at you steve coogan’). I am staying off twitter, because it’s just a decrepit red washed brocialist playground now. Gonna stay out of Aibu now too, because momentum are out in full force today.

Coming in here for some sanity and sanctuary instead. Load me up Landlady, what’s on the specials drinks board?

Help me through the toxic wasteland of corbynistas please! 😫

ajandjjmum · 11/12/2019 14:32

Feeling like this is the only thread where I have friends at the minute! But they are spouting such rubbish, I struggle to keep quiet. Because we are all so evil, y'know!

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 11/12/2019 14:34

“Don't you just love all those posters that say, "I'm not trying to tell you how to vote but look at this link to Labour froth and emotion?”

This, it’s always, ‘ignore all the other facts, ira, anti semitism, “kneecapping”, wreath laying, maoist ideology sympathising, “lynch her” , economy crashing, self id, uncosted manifesto shit, marxism, nationalise everything etc...

look! Look over here instead, here’s a labour non political homeless guy video for you to chew your nails over instead.

Ugh. Propaganda city.

Hollycatberry · 11/12/2019 14:35

AIBU is full of it today. I have just read one thread that started about having civil political discussion and has descended into insults within a page. Not really a surprise though.

I think Labour rolling out celebs helps the Tory vote! People don't like being preached at by the Hollywood elite - think Bono and Bob Geldof. When I see smug celebs like Emma Thompson and Hugh Grant wading in on politics I just think piss off, you know nothing of what its like to be an ordinary person!

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 14:36

Today, anything you want to drink, on the house for both of you.

I made smoky baked beans with cheese & onion toast for lunch and there's some left over, if you're hungry. It's a real winter warmer.

Do you want to hang around and swap non-political anecdotes for awhile?

😂Holly, a bit like the dynamic duo - Tony Blair and John Major - bursting through the door of Remainers United, singing, "We're here to help!"

Awww, Flowers, I’m giving up with it outside here now, it’s a last ditch bullshit tsunami, we can only hope that people see through it and make a common sense (albeit difficult) choice to keep them out.

It’s cosy in here, and I couldn’t give a shiny shit if I’m accused of staying in a “safe echo chamber” today either.

If there are any frustrated lurkers out there, who need some sanctuary from the momentum crap (leave or remain), come join us here for a drink! You are very welcome.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 11/12/2019 14:42

I know right! because the guy that engineered this mess, and the war mongering bullshitter, are really going to help matters right now.

Another one thats making me laugh, is everyone wetting their pants with glee, over Pete Docherty (not sure how you spell it and also don’t care) saying some shit about Boris. Yes, that crack head violent crim, is such a paragon of virtue, let’s base our opinion around his. 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

Hollycatberry · 11/12/2019 14:44

Gawd, Blair and Major to the rescue! 😂
Just the sheer arrogance of those two thinking their opinions should hold sway with the public now, all these years later. Quite galling really!
They need to take a seat and pipe down.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 11/12/2019 14:46

Tony B Liar, got in partially on a EU referendum ticket too! The hypocrisy. What happened to that after he won the election exactly? Yet here he is, swinging his dick all over town, telling people what to do... do one Blair. Hopefully one day you See justice.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 11/12/2019 14:47

This is CATHARTIC AF.

More please. 😂

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 14:48

Did I ever tell you about the time I had to contact returning officers the length and breadth of the land in order to obtain postal votes for unconvicted prisoners on remand?

After having the "innocent until proven guilty" argument about a hundred times over with a hundred different returning officers, I had to gather up the postal votes and run a polling station within the prison.

What an eye-opener.

99 prisoners decided to stay in their comfy warm cells. They had thought exercising their right to vote meant a day out.

The other one scrutinised her ballot paper for about ten minutes and then asked me, "Who should I vote for?"

Me: "Not allowed to say. It's your choice".

Her: "But I want to vote for the Scottish Nationalist Party but they're not on here".

Me: "That's because you're from Bury (Lancashire)",

Her: "Oh".

More mental workout. Practically saw the cogs turning over. After about ten minutes of huffing and puffing.

Her: "I know! I'll vote for the British National Party. That's the same thing, isn't it?"

Me: "Erm...do what you think best".

The BNP didn't win. Phew.

SingingLily · 11/12/2019 14:50

Told you. I didn't lock up the bright ones. Regardless of which uniform I wore.

Who says crime doesn't pay? I've made a living out of it for years.
