The Brexit Arms. Is this Ben Elton? Is it free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone or a Corb-free Christmas 🎄?

Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

“Could I ask that you start a thread about the issues facing the NHS, any time from Friday onwards? With no political cheap jibes or point-scoring allowed?”

Definetly do this Squid, it’s a really good idea. 😊

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:12

Also loved the JCB 😂😍

Agree with Lily btw - "A hung parliament would just give us more bickering about Brexit when in fact, we are facing other huge challenges that are simply being squeezed out of the political bandwidth. None of us needs that. We need clarity and direction."

To move forwards & get stuff sorted we (as a country) and MPs in Parliament need to stop fighting & navel gazing about the decision to leave the EU

Enact the instruction given by the electorate & get back to the job of govt - and cross party approaches to the big stuff would be the best outcome in my book

NHS, Education & Justice are three areas that should be cross party imo

Thirded.

My DMIL is your 90 y-o patient. She has spent a few nights on a trolley in the corridor in the last 10 years. Until she was old, she was an SRN with 45 years served on the job. Now, she has a touch of dementia, and there's not much personal about the care she gets.

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:16

I don't want to live that long. Dignitas for the UK is a policy I'd support 100%.

I'd like the option Limer, definitely

I appreciate it's a fraught topic, but I'd like the option to choose my own path when it comes to it

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:16

I don't want a hung parliament but it's not as catastrophic as more tories! A labour government would be like every hospitals' best christmas present come at once. Labour/SNP would be fine too. Man can you remember hope?

Anyway. I don't believe polls at all so who knows what's gonna happen on thursday! Record youth registration, big turn out, tactical voting... it's gonna be wild

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:17

I'm sorry XingMing. I try and treat everyone as personally and nicely as I can even when it's carnage and we know the care we're delivering is awful

Limer · 10/12/2019 21:17

I loved the JCB too - but he wasn't driving it, was he? Clever editing?

To move forwards & get stuff sorted we (as a country) and MPs in Parliament need to stop fighting & navel gazing about the decision to leave the EU YES. Politicians are the servants of the people. The people voted to Leave. JUST DO IT.

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:17

I disagree

A hung parliament is the worst of all worlds

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:19

No deal brexit and no meds is the worst of all worlds, and I think a high possibility with Boris "I fuck up everything I touch" Johnson

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:20

“Man can you remember hope?”

Christ yes! 97 new labour, I was starry eyed and besotted with hope, it was quickly dashed.

“Things, can only get better... 🎶” clue... they fucking didn’t 😂.

I see the same pattern repeating in the “ oh Jeremy corbyn 🎶” “absolute boy” type gushing tbh, I’m older and more cynical now, I just don’t buy it.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:20

I'm fine with brexit, people voted for Brexit. Labour will sort out a much better brexit without tories' red lines. It would be good to do it without shooting ourselves in the face or fucking over Ireland. No?

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:20

A labour government would be like every hospitals' best christmas present come at once. Labour/SNP would be fine too. Man can you remember hope?

For the first year or two, perhaps

The Brexit Arms. Is this Ben Elton? Is it free mulled wine and mince pies for everyone or a Corb-free Christmas 🎄?
XingMing · 10/12/2019 21:20

And another seconding the motion that we need big tent ideas after the GE to move forward intelligently, kindly and fairly.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:21

When did you think things were good epic? Now?

ContinuityError · 10/12/2019 21:21

loved his JCB trick earlier...

You mean the one where he got JCB to pay him £10k for a speech?

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:22

Labour will sort out a much better brexit without tories' red lines.

They have already said they'd keep us in the Customs Union

That's not Brexit

Limer · 10/12/2019 21:23

Nobody wants a no deal Brexit, especially Boris. OK - maybe Nigel Farage does.

Don't be fooled by the bumbling buffoon exterior, Boris is as sharp as a knife underneath. And he wants to stay in power.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:23

And they are socialists. Under the majority of socialist countries (not democratic socialists...this is not what corbz and crew are offering, despite the mental gymnastics by some to allege it) poverty increases exponentially and the country inevitably collapses under it’s own strain.

HateIsNotGood · 10/12/2019 21:26

I completely support controlled immigration. There are so many aspects, criteria, different tiers, types of visa, that there are too many reasons to give a generic reason why I take my stance.

With regards to FOM - my main reason against it is that it is virtually impossible to forward plan for public service provision if you don't know (or statistically 'know' from existing data) what the demographics of localized populations will be, and where they are located; it will be inevitable that local service provision will not meet its local demand and will always be playing catch up.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:27

I am not remotely fooled by the bumbling baffoon act.

XingMing · 10/12/2019 21:27

Who would choose to live in North Korea (hands up) and those who would prefer South Korea? You don't have to be Korean to vote..............

Bearbehind · 10/12/2019 21:28

A labour government would be like every hospitals' best christmas present come at once. Labour/SNP would be fine too.

I genuinely don’t understand why you think this is the case.

Where are Labour suddenly going to get all this extra money for the NHS from, along with every other giveaway proposal they have.

Limer · 10/12/2019 21:29

Very true Epic And we really are living in a global economy now. Any threat of an increase to corporation tax, companies simply engage some solicitors and accountants, fill in a form online, and bingo, they're headquartered offshore. I think some of the utility companies have already done this to avoid McDonnell's threatened re-nationalisation.

I'd estimate any collapse at less than a year away if Labour were to win.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:30

How are people feeling about the level of disinformation the tories are putting out. For me this is even more distressing than their policies.

So 88% of tory ads are untrue, compared to 0 of labours. Lib dems not covering themselves in glory either.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/technology-50726500

The BBC buried this in their technology section with a headline suggestive that all parties were placing misleading election ads.

This is all over the web tonight but no one has mentioned it here yet.
