Welcome to the Brexit Arms!

The temporary Landlady is back but worry not, all is festive good cheer with just another three days to go until we reach the Only Poll That Really Matters. Till then, the gloves are still on!

A quick recap of the events of the last week or so:

📋❓💙❤️💛⁉️💙‼️🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️😀☹️😀☹️😧😱🙄😬🤥🤔🤕🗳

Anyone of any political persuasion who is prepared to join in, eschew goadery, and enjoy a laugh, welcome. First drinks are on the house.

I am not remotely fooled by the bumbling baffoon act.

Excellent Grin

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:31

Corporation tax is lower than anywhere in Europe and the labour plan is to raise to levels that are still lower than they were in 2010. Where would these companies go?

HateIsNotGood · 10/12/2019 21:32

Sorry I'm a bit slow - it must be the Progressive in me. I don't understand Tories=No Deal. Boris has got a deal, HoC agreed to the 1st stage and then, faced with more "dither and delay", BJ called a GE.

Did I miss something?

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:33

“When did you think things were good epic? Now?”

Actually, the best, most prosperous years of my life were between about 2012- earlier this year, when our business began to hit the skids because we had hardly anycustomers (we still don’t) despite being in business for nearly 17 years. We had no customers because our customers stopped spending their money (and trust me, some if them have a fuckton), due to the fuckery over brexit not happening and them not knowing what was going to happen next. As of end nov, our business went into administration and we currently don’t know if we or our staff will get paid this month, or what will happen to our staff if we liquidate.

Those same wealthy customers (the few we did have left) intend to leave the country in the event of a corbyn government.

It might sound hyperbolic, but I promise you, it’s 100% true.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:35

If Johnson doesn't sort the trade deal by December 2020 we crash out. Trade deals don't get sorted in that amount of time, or none ever have before. Johnson had his deal voted through but vetoed it himself because parliament said they couldn't read it in 3 days(!). Why?

Dapplegrey · 10/12/2019 21:36

Those same wealthy customers (the few we did have left) intend to leave the country in the event of a corbyn government.

Lots of rich people will leave the country if Corbyn wins - or at least, those who are cash rich will.
Obviously landowners won’t be able to move their acres.

Snowy111 · 10/12/2019 21:36

Hatels you missed that BJ had promised no deal
to the ERG, and that there are no deal deadlines in his WA

SingingLily · 10/12/2019 21:37

How are people feeling about the level of disinformation the tories are putting out. For me this is even more distressing than their policies.

Squid, you are fighting that battle in the wrong place. We are tired of playing whack-a-mole on here about this type of stuff.

Have another 🍷

squid4 surely nobody is influenced by what they see online?

I can't speak for any political party, I've never been a member of any and have voted for all of them over my many decades as a voter. All politicians are power-crazed megalomaniacs, by definition. But they are elected to carry out a manifesto, if they fail we'll kick them out. That's democracy. Not perfect but better than any alternative (definitely better than Marxism/Communism/Corbynism).

Companies could go anywhere. Channel Islands, Cayman Islands, any other tax haven you care to mention. National Grid has gone to Luxembourg/Hong Kong I think.

ContinuityError · 10/12/2019 21:38

Obviously landowners won’t be able to move their acres.

Why would they want to? Agricultural land is a nice little IHT avoidance scheme.

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:38

I'm glad things are going well for you personally Epic, but I meant more for your community - the schools, hospitals, are there obscene numbers of homeless people around? Food banks? Things that just were not there 9 years ago.
We have been told we have 12 years to attempt to deal with the climate crisis? Australia is on fire. Can anyone planning to vote tory defend their plans (or total lack of plans and engagement) on this?

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:43

How are people feeling about the level of disinformation the tories are putting out. For me this is even more distressing than their policies.

How are people feeling about the level of uncosted, false promises Labour are putting out. For me this is equally as distressing as the thought that a pair of Marxist antisemites may get into power.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:43

“Lots of rich people will leave the country if Corbyn wins - or at least, those who are cash rich will.”

Agreed. And those rich people pay our wages with their awful disposable income. They pay hefty VAT on our products too. A scene repeated, multiple times across the country.

Rich people are not the enemy. They create wealth, that wealth encourages SME’s, the rich people buy products from SME’s those SME’s employ tax payers and pay tax too.

What happens when all that tax dissapears?

XingMing · 10/12/2019 21:43

squid4, you are good at what you are doing, and you're doing well but most of us here (rough guess) are 50+ ish and have seen and heard all the politicians' promises before, seen them ignored or broken or just forgotten in the heat of the moment. So if we are not rolling over to have our tummies tickled, it's based on memory.

Your audience here is not young and naive.

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:44

So 88% of tory ads are untrue, compared to 0 of labours. Lib dems not covering themselves in glory either.

So the guy that did the study is partisan

So it's unsurprising that he came to this conclusion 🤷🏻‍♀️

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:45

“I'm glad things are going well for you personally Epic, but I meant more for your community”

They are not!!!! Did you even read my post? 😂

Limer · 10/12/2019 21:45

Food banks have existed for decades, they just didn't have a formal name, a national register or spreadsheets to record their activities.

Biggest single thing anyone can do to help climate change? Don't have a (or another) baby. The Conservatives are the only party supporting a two-child limit on state benefits. Labour will pay people to reproduce.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:45

As a business we have sponsored various community projects and charities.

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:46

I'm glad things are going well for you personally Epic

Jesus wept

Read the fucking thread ffs

The family business has gone into receivership because of the fuckery of politicians forcing indecision to continue over Brexit

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:50

Can anyone planning to vote tory defend their plans (or total lack of plans and engagement) on this?

You've said a few times now in the other thread that you've been contemplating coming onto this one to question & challenge our views

Nobody cares bro

And nobody has to defend or explain their voting decisions either

Nobody here has asked you to do that, please give us the same courtesy

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:50

“Your audience here is not young and naive.”

Ahem, speak for yourself! I am a fountain of youth at the practically teenage age of 40... BlushGrinGrin (I wish)

You are right about the not being naive part though... GrinGrinGrin

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:51

Apologies Epic I seem to have misread/skipped an entire paragraph. That sounds really hard. The division and misery since the brexit vote has been crap for sure. I voted remain, but I said the day after the referendum we should leave, but in a way that protected ireland/workers/businesses. Been very very unimpressed with Johnson in particular voting against/voting for/voting against/ throwing a strop/ /asking for an election / I don't want an election / vote for my deal / oh you have I'm going to pull it before you can look at it.

I'd like a grown up in charge.

Thanks for the complimentyinsultycompliment thing Xing. What can any of us do but try?

DustyDiamond · 10/12/2019 21:52

Ahem, speak for yourself! I am a fountain of youth at the practically teenage age of 40...

You are OLD!!!!!!

I am only 24 in my head (I live in 1999 still, it's nice there..... 😉😂)

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 10/12/2019 21:53

Xing, sorry, I am 40 btw! Just wish I was practically teenage... 😂

squid4 · 10/12/2019 21:53

Under Tory voter under 40!?? You are an endangered species for sure ;)
