Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

FishesaPlenty · 06/12/2019 16:49

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

Is anyone following Richard Milne on Twitter? Highly recommended, today’s cartoon’s a cracker.

And yet the latest Survation poll has less than 15% of under 35s planning to vote Conservative?

As ever, it depends where the votes are concentrated.

Joe Owen@jl_owen (Brexit Programme Director @instituteforgov)

Not met a single person who thinks the Northern Ireland protocol can be implemented by December 2020.

A year to implement something that hasn’t even been properly defined yet.

HMRC Boss said last year that a similar system could take 5 years.

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 09:27

New immigration policy also has timing problems:

<a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=mobile.twitter.com/jl_owen" target="_blank">Joe Owen@jl_owen (Brexit Programme Director <a class="break-all" href="http://go.mumsnet.com/?xs=1&id=470X1554755&url=mobile.twitter.com/instituteforgov" target="_blank">@instituteforgov)

things to remember about new immigration system:

  • Detailed rules should be published a year before come into force - so within weeks of election
  • new system needs to be up and running by June to give biz time to get sponsorship licenses etc

But we still don’t know details...

BigChocFrenzy · 09/12/2019 09:33

Musical polls 😂😂 - a less stressful way to hear them !
Go on, listen to this from @instituteforgov:

Gavin Freeguard@GavinFreeguard

Singing the blues... and the reds, golds, purples and turquoises.

Yes - in this week's #SpeedData, @thorpekj, @Jess_Sargeant, @lewisalloyd^ and I sing^ the polls since the start of this year.

The parties are focused on votes in marginal seats — when the focus should be on the future success of our communities.

In some areas, unemployment rates are so low, and there are so few people seeking work within commuting distance, that businesses are giving up on recruitment and expansion.

Some are already facing acute labour shortages.

Fucking absolute cunt. This is why my best friend of twenty years has moved back to her country of birth, even though she has spent far more of her life in the UK. She would have been eligible for residency but she was too offended to apply. She lived her life here, owned her home here.... how dare that piece of absolute shit say that?!

JustAnotherPoster00 · 09/12/2019 09:53

Dont worry BCF the Tories have a plan for that

@dogmuns
Listen to what she says! Not aware of a green paper on SC existing! Norfolk disabled & carers been emailing her for 12 months about our plight! Met a DNNG member! Said she may pop in at our Gov lobby but didn’t UNBELIEVABLE! Not a clue!

pinboard · 09/12/2019 10:09

My last hope is that the SNP do really well and form an alliance with Labour to stop / reduce BJ's so called 'Tory' party

JustAnotherPoster00 · 09/12/2019 10:10

An what pisses me off about the Tory in that clip and those that support his view because if he didnt think there was any support or the 'cultural climate' wasnt sufficiently muddied enough to spout such bollocks he wouldnt have said a word. So imagine a world where the government want to control the courts eg. Tory manifesto, or get rid of the human rights act eg. 2017 Tory manifesto (no clue if its in the new one) once you have people on a list its not long before that lists net starts getting wider and wider, fucking wake up people, unless youre shielded by wealth. privilege or both youre eventually fucked, theres no going back after that, welcome to the scary new world, I think I'm done today

The80sweregreat · 09/12/2019 10:17

I can't work out why J C won't go on the five live phone in? Everyone else has done. They are tough on there, but it's not the same as Andrew Neil or someone similar.

Boris Johnson vows end to migrants treating Britain as their own

I hate that fucking imbecile:

1. An estimated 5.5m Brits* live* permanently abroad – almost one in 10 of the UK population treating all those foreign places as their own.

  1. Let's look at migrants in the Johnson family treating Britain as their own:

• Stanley Johnson is the son of Osman Ali Kemal (who later changed his name to Wilfred Johnson). So Stanley's Dad treated Britain as his own.

•Stanley and Boris's real surname is Kemal. So both of them treating other places as their own.

• Stanley's mother Irene was born to Marie Louise de Pfeffel. Sounds like Marie or Irene have treated some other countries as their own there.

• Stanley Kemal / Johnson 's paternal grandfather Ali Kemal Bey was an interior minister in the Ottoman Empire. So he treated Britain as his own by having his child in the U.K.

•Osman's mother was Anglo-Swiss (Winifred Brun) so she treated Switzerland and Britain ( and Turkey ?) as her own at some point although she died post childbirth.

•Stanley Johnson's maternal grandmother's parents were Hubert Frieherr Von Pfeffel (born in Munich) sounds like some treating places other than Germany as their home there.

• His wife was called Helene Arnous-Rivière. Sounds a bit French to me do possibly treating Germany as her own?

• oh then there's Hubert von Pfeffel the son of Karl Freiherr von Pfeffel ( born in Dresden died in Munich). That one may have stayed in Germany but their kids certainly treated other places as their own.

• Oh then somewhere there was Karolina von Rothenburg ( born in Germany.)

• Not to mention Boris Johnson's children's other grandparents .. Marina being the daughter of an India Sikh mother, Dip Singh who treated Britain ( Sussex) as her own.

I am sick of the lying fucking hypocrite. The world has globalised as witnessed by his own family. I know the polls are bad but please please please let him lose Uxbridge.

I couldn't agree more lonely.

Bloody immigrants, coming over here, marrying our men, mothering our kids...

CendrillonSings · 09/12/2019 10:50

It’s almost as if Boris beat an Old Labour politician for the mayoralty of one of the world’s top global cities and nothing bad happened - twice. Wink

TokyoSushi · 09/12/2019 10:51

Just checking in to say that I am still here, reading and watching everything I can, I feel a bit sick about Thursday though!

What are everyone's plans? Stay up? Have a nap and get back up?

I'm in the polling station all day and then going to try to avoid the news briefly so I can go home and watch the exit poll that I will have recoorded that is announced at 10pm (my absolute favorite bit!) Then I'll most likely stay up most of the night - good job it's 'work from home Friday!'
