Westminsterenders: Talent or Colour

FishesaPlenty · 06/12/2019 16:49

RTB and BCF are presumably busy with more important things. I'm clearly not qualified to start a Westminsterenders thread - but somebody has to take control and collect the waifs and strays.

The party of no talent want to introduce no colour into our lives.

6 days to the election.

Johnson is still a liar.

Corbyn is still apparently loved by Labour members and hated by everyone else.

Swinson is still a charming PTA chair.

The first result is usually Sunderland.
That will be interesting.

pinboard · 09/12/2019 07:52

I think Sunderland will go Tory as it was very Pro-Brexit before?

Alsohuman · 09/12/2019 08:03

I’ve never gone to bed on an election night and don’t intend to start now. I was working at the count in 1997, it ranks among the best nights of my life.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 09/12/2019 08:04

Every time I go to bed something terrible happens - Tories, Brexit, Trump.
I might need to stay up for this one

Oh my god!!!! I thought it was just me.

Although i did stay up as long as i could on the election night 2017, so i do think that I contributed to The tories losing their majority

mybrainhurtsalot · 09/12/2019 08:05

I think if Sunderland turns blue we’re looking at a much greater Conservative majority than currently predicted. The YouGov MRP has Sunderland as likely Labour at present.

ContinuityError · 09/12/2019 08:11

I think Sunderland will go Tory as it was very Pro-Brexit before?

All three Sunderland seats were held by Labour with 10k + majorities. Tories made inroads in 2017 (picking up UKIP votes?) but with Nissan looking a bit flaky (especially under a No Deal) will people really vote Tory?

prettybird · 09/12/2019 08:13

Unfortunately, I think there are still lots of people in such areas who have been conned by an impossible dream by shysters who will shaft those voters in order to profit themselves Angry

pinboard · 09/12/2019 08:15

apologies ContinuityError my mistake re figures re Sunderland

(in my defence I was up half the night with a bug)

I hope that you are correct. I also think Sunderland will be important, and hope to God it IS Labour.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 08:17

If Sunderland is currently labour then surely there will be a BXP candidate standing there? That should be enough to scupper any tory chance - but it could mean that our first returned MP is for the Brexit Party! [shocked]

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 08:18

Shock even

If the North East turns blue, my dad will be turning in his grave.

Piggywaspushed · 09/12/2019 08:29

I have to go to bed on Thursday : small matter of teaching the next day!

I doubt I will sleep too well, though.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 08:31

oh heck - this inadvertently happened on the BBC

twitter.com/rednotgrey/status/1203929443351384065

They'll have to bury it somewhere deep and salt the earth.

I'm getting tory banner ads today. Maybe it's because I'm in a marginal (don't know if I class as a 'key' marginal - but deffo marginal). It actually makes me feel better to see it. we're told the targeting is oh so clever and the rest of us never see what they're pushing - but this must just be a scattergun of everybody in the right seat.
And from me the answer is no way, never, not in a million years and also nuh uh.
So that was money well spent. Also the ad says 'our hung parliament is working' - and then has photos of various mps, JC being the most prominent in the middle. You have to wait for the 'vote conservative' to come up ... so a casual glance and a 'so vote Corbyn' message could be absorbed instead. I certainly didn't instantly recognise it for what it was the first time I saw it.

Icantreachthepretzels · 09/12/2019 08:33

our hung parliament is not working sorry.

jeez - clearly too early for me to be posting.

MaxNormal · 09/12/2019 08:42

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer should we break the jink and be staying-up buddies?

That Corbyn clip is very sweet actually - shame it will indeed be buried as you say. To compare him to Johnson, and then have the latter voted in, is making me feel so sad.

Stinkyeddie · 09/12/2019 08:42

Had a green and labour leaflet today
Got a letter from bridgen (didn't open, binned it..)
Nothing so far from independent or libertarian...

JustAnotherPoster00 · 09/12/2019 08:49

Excellent campaign add from Labour

Peregrina · 09/12/2019 08:50

I'm getting Tory ads on MN too. I am in a marginal seat. They need to target better - no point on a Westministenders thread, but over on the Brexit Arms they would love it.

ffauxlivia · 09/12/2019 08:51

I can only speak for my marginal constituency in the NE, but local Facebook groups are full of Labour leavers pushing Tory Tory Tory; they know voting for Brexit party is a vote for Labour here. They vehemently detest the Labour MP and I'm certain we'll turn blue for the first time.

Also it seems to be a lot of young people (20s/30s/40s) voting Tory and they seem quite mobilised. Tory posters everywhere. The older generations round here remember the miners strikes etc all too well and can't vote for them.

Everything feels like it's flipped on it's head.

I hope I'm wrong as this is all anecdotal obviously, but it feels very hopeless!

When people at the BBC know the truth and aren’t doing anything about it. Staying silent and hoping it goes away isn’t an option. The reputational damage will be irreversible, maybe already it is too late #BBCBias #BBCBiasAndLies #bbc

We are being played.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 09/12/2019 08:56

Can we ask mn whether they take money for advertising from all political parties.

DGRossetti · 09/12/2019 08:59

I think that's an excellent campaign ad, but we had a poster, (it might have been early on this thread, or the previous one), who said her employees were resentful of public sector workers - because of their job security and pension. If all you can find is zero hours work in a warehouse, then yes, I can see why there is some resentment. But public sector workers had to fight hard to get where they were; this gets forgotten.

And yet the latest Survation poll has less than 15% of under 35s planning to vote Conservative?

Here are the data tables from the latest Survation poll:
