The closing date for registration is this Tuesday

The weekend has seen the leaders question time debates.

Johnson failed to answer a question and the BBC edited later edited footage to change laughter at him to applause.

Swinson continues to prove that the Lib Dem campaign planners don't understand the electorate. They based the campaign around her and the more the public see her and the more she opens her gob she proves she's the witless headgirl who really knows fuck all.

Corbyn has now adopted a neutral 2nd referendum position. Far too late.

Jo Johnson apparently said that a good election manifesto is one people aren’t talking about 48 hrs later, and it seems that the Conservatives really have gone for that strategy.

Johnson had promised a manifesto for change yet of the three main parties it seems far from that. It avoids controversy for the most part, but also doesn't offer solutions to some of our biggest problems like social care. But with the Tories so ahead in the polls, the status quo and making sure they don't have a repeat of the 'dementia tax' car crash seems to be the order of the day. Because Brexit is going to going to provide a magic solution instead...

Meanwhile the Labour Party have gone completely the other way and really have gone for it and come up with ideas. With a mixed response from the public and press.

And I still can't tell you what is in the LD one, cos Prince Andrew...

This week should see the election come into focus as postal voting starts. As it stands its hard to bet on anything but a Tory majority.

Nicky Morgan who claimed that the average teacher was paid £37,500 p/a? She has form for being disingenuous with numbers.

DoctorTwo · 25/11/2019 08:35

@squid4 I greatly admire what you and your colleagues do. The NHS has saved my life twice in the last couple of years, both times after being blue lighted to hospital and being rapidly seen and admitted because they believed I was in imminent danger of having a heart attack. I am incredibly grateful that I was treated so promptly and so gracefully by the staff at both Addenbrookes and Milton Keynes University Hospital. As far as I'm concerned you are all heroes.

In France, it’s even GPS who are private. They are not paid by the government per se (no wage) but what they charge is set by the government. This has meant some GPs Really struggled (because they were crap!)
Even though there is less flexibility nowadays you can still chose your GP too. And you will always get seen at weekends etc. No stories like the one on here recently if a woman who couldn’t get to see a doctor on a Saturday despite being very unwell.

DoctorTwo · 25/11/2019 08:47

@CendrillonSings again, the party you support and promote has policies which made me homeless, told my wheelchair bound friend her spina bifida was cured, and cured my ex gf of the heart condition that killed her.

Nicky Morgan had a car crash of an interview with Piers Morgan this morning trying to defend the deceit in the policy of increasing the number of nurses. Opposition parties need to be calling this out at every opportunity, and the lies about the number of new hospitals. Imagine the press if it was Diane Abbott.

bellinisurge · 25/11/2019 09:12

Nicki Morgan has been trotted out on all programmes this morning. I reckon the "Remainer" Tories have been put out to prove their loyalty and lure in people who weren't fooled last time. Or the time before. Or the time before that.Wink

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 09:30

Why is Nicky Morgan being trotted out for interviews when she isn’t even standing? Let me guess - because everyone on the front bench is so utterly inept. Raab, Patel and Cleverly seem to have been locked in the cupboard with Rees Mogg.

thecatfromjapan · 25/11/2019 09:44

The Conservatives are campaigning by basically not appearing anywhere.

It is a crazy GE.

GeistohneGrenzen · 25/11/2019 09:44

The lies disseminated...

Through my letterbox this morning - no stamp and not sure whether by Postie or by Other Hand. My own hands feel dirty by opening it, and as for my eyes...

Morning all. We all knew this would be a dirty election, but the dirt coming out is just mind-boggling. I've given up on the BBC, Sky News (yes I know, Murdoch) seems to be more even-handed.

prettybird · 25/11/2019 09:54

Sky News isn't Murdoch any more.

That may well be why that's now the majority of the News reporting that I follow is Sky News Grin

Nicky Morgan who claimed that the average teacher was paid £37,500 p/a?

I earn £39k (should be £40k but we haven’t been allowed the most recent pay rise as we have no money) and I am the highest paid member of staff on UPS3 aside from the head and deputy in my school. Nobody else in the staff is above MPS3 as we can’t afford to award incremental rises and we have no additional TLR payments. I have been teaching for over 20 years.

I presume that’s an average skewed by leadership scales and London waiting.

What’s the mode and median salary of full time teachers outside of London; how can we find that out?

borntobequiet · 25/11/2019 10:18

At the time NM made the claim the median pay for teachers was about £28 000 I think - pretty much the national median. She used the mean which was indeed skewed (and appeared on the DFE website with no explanation).
I too was at the top of the upper pay scale with a TLR2 and was on about £42 000 with UPS3/TLR2.

Peregrina · 25/11/2019 10:23

Nicky Morgan who claimed that the average teacher was paid £37,500 p/a?

GCSE Maths - the mean, the median and the mode. Which one is she talking about? Maybe she doesn't know, maybe she is proud of being mathematically and statistically ignorant?

BigChocFrenzy · 25/11/2019 10:31

Could be the mean and might even include - remember these are Tories - those academy administrators on 300k running several schools

The median is far more relevant when it comes to pay, just like for the country as a whole, where the average / mean is skewed by high earners in London and commuter belt

thecatfromjapan · 25/11/2019 10:33

I suspect BigChoc is correct.

QuentinWinters · 25/11/2019 10:38

I was pointing out that at least some of the dislike of Swinson's tone of voice is a form of institutional sexism

I also had a heated debate with DP about this. And about how Swinson is being pilloried for saying she could be PM. She doesn't really have a choice, if she said LDs can't win she would lose votes to other parties. If a man was saying it noone would bat an eyelid, but female ambition is clearly offensive to many.

Have to say I'm getting pissed off with the weather Wink

It's really hard to fit leafleting in around work, life and it getting dark super early without pouring rain turning them into pulp.

As for sorting out Christmas. hah.

DGRossetti · 25/11/2019 10:52

Does it matter if it costs votes ?

Remember, Mrs. T had to have elocution lessons on the orders of the Saatchis. Although their effectiveness may have been compromised when Dr. Jonathan Miller was invited to comment (on "Parkinson" if memory serves) and said it would have been like a Perfumed fart

prettybird · 25/11/2019 11:00

I made the point about Thatcher getting election lessons DGR - all that does is illustrate how many of us (and I include myself in that Blush) are still c40 years later institutionally conditioned to accept a lower male voice as more authoritative Hmm and to dislike "shrill" female voices BlushConfused
