Westminstenders: Register to Vote

The closing date for registration is this Tuesday

The weekend has seen the leaders question time debates.

Johnson failed to answer a question and the BBC edited later edited footage to change laughter at him to applause.

Swinson continues to prove that the Lib Dem campaign planners don't understand the electorate. They based the campaign around her and the more the public see her and the more she opens her gob she proves she's the witless headgirl who really knows fuck all.

Corbyn has now adopted a neutral 2nd referendum position. Far too late.

Jo Johnson apparently said that a good election manifesto is one people aren’t talking about 48 hrs later, and it seems that the Conservatives really have gone for that strategy.

Johnson had promised a manifesto for change yet of the three main parties it seems far from that. It avoids controversy for the most part, but also doesn't offer solutions to some of our biggest problems like social care. But with the Tories so ahead in the polls, the status quo and making sure they don't have a repeat of the 'dementia tax' car crash seems to be the order of the day. Because Brexit is going to going to provide a magic solution instead...

Meanwhile the Labour Party have gone completely the other way and really have gone for it and come up with ideas. With a mixed response from the public and press.

And I still can't tell you what is in the LD one, cos Prince Andrew...

This week should see the election come into focus as postal voting starts. As it stands its hard to bet on anything but a Tory majority.

Yes, I agree. But anyway, whoever is in power, Brexit will certainly not be 'getting done' any time soon.

National grid moving - a win win for them - if Brexit happens they don't want to be in the UK, if it doesn't happen, they don't want to be in the UK.

Flouncy Wanker on a tanker I think ?

Retaining nurses ? what does that actually mean ? Does it have anything to do with raising retirement age ? I already have to work until 67 to get my NHS nursing pension. Perhaps they mean the nurses who are retiring now in their 50's and then returning to work in the NHS to supplement their pensions ?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2019 11:17

The national grid move reason sounds like total bollocks. Why would they move because of a hypothetical Labour win. This move will have taken a long time to, long long before we knew we were having elections. It seems far more likely that they moved for other reasons.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/11/2019 11:18

flouncy. Potentially! See the snow watch thread.

While this isn't surprising ..

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/general-election-british-uk-media-news-bias-tories-labour-a9209026.html

I'm quite astounded by this

‘The result was a positive score of +4 for the Conservatives, and a negative score of -91 for Labour, suggesting coverage had been overwhelmingly negative for the main opposition.’

Although this is newspaper only. I wonder what it's like for tv broadcast media. I am finding the BBC worryingly soft on the conservatives and am turning to C4 news.

Re.: Swinson. I think there is an enormous amount of misogyny swirling about.

I am absolutely certain that part of Johnson's appeal to a certain section of his voters lies in his awful personal treatment of women and shameful public misogyny, racism and homophobia.

In this climate, it's hard to see how Swinson will face anything other than a fairly sexist response.

Today's incoming political football

Theo Usherwood@theousherwood
New: Understand from multiple sources Uber will not be granted an operator's licence later this morning by the regulator Transport for London.

For the record, Transport for London is saying that no decision has been made.

Obviously, this won’t mean there are no Ubers from tomorrow morning.

They will inevitably appeal the decision and Uber will continue to operate during that appeal process.

Uber not commenting until the announcement.

This was the specific article I was thinking of - from quite a few years ago, but I doubt much has changed:

All Sadiq Khan's fault, dontcha know!

ListeningQuietly · 25/11/2019 11:54

My dislike of Jo Swinson is all about the phraseology and arrogance.
Jess Philips has a high voice and I Luff her.
Nicola Sturgeon, even Ruth Davidson I'm happy to listen to.
But the way Jo emphasises her words makes me want to break the screen

thecatfromjapan · 25/11/2019 11:57

I love Jess Philips - but I think she gets inordinate amounts of abuse, too. And there's a misogynistic inflection to it.

I'm fed up with pretending misogyny isn't a massive, huge problem.

I think it's worse - and in a very deep, aggressive and pervasive form.

mrslaughan · 25/11/2019 12:12

Re;NHS prescription- I have to get the inhaler that works best for my son on a private prescription, as it's not available on the a NHS in our trust. My sister who lives in Kent - gets it for her son no problem. So it probably depends on which trust you are in

fedup21 · 25/11/2019 12:20

At the time NM made the claim the median pay for teachers was about £28 000 I think - pretty much the national median. She used the mean which was indeed skewed (and appeared on the DFE website with no explanation).

How do I make a FOI request?!

bellinisurge · 25/11/2019 12:22

Really easy. Most public authorities have an online portal for doing it.

I thought maybe scrote on a boat

Alsohuman · 25/11/2019 12:25

Jess Philips gets abuse in direct proportion to how bloody brilliant she is. The right wing would be all over her like a rash if she was on their side.
