Westminstenders: Register to Vote

The closing date for registration is this Tuesday

The weekend has seen the leaders question time debates.

Johnson failed to answer a question and the BBC edited later edited footage to change laughter at him to applause.

Swinson continues to prove that the Lib Dem campaign planners don't understand the electorate. They based the campaign around her and the more the public see her and the more she opens her gob she proves she's the witless headgirl who really knows fuck all.

Corbyn has now adopted a neutral 2nd referendum position. Far too late.

Jo Johnson apparently said that a good election manifesto is one people aren’t talking about 48 hrs later, and it seems that the Conservatives really have gone for that strategy.

Johnson had promised a manifesto for change yet of the three main parties it seems far from that. It avoids controversy for the most part, but also doesn't offer solutions to some of our biggest problems like social care. But with the Tories so ahead in the polls, the status quo and making sure they don't have a repeat of the 'dementia tax' car crash seems to be the order of the day. Because Brexit is going to going to provide a magic solution instead...

Meanwhile the Labour Party have gone completely the other way and really have gone for it and come up with ideas. With a mixed response from the public and press.

And I still can't tell you what is in the LD one, cos Prince Andrew...

This week should see the election come into focus as postal voting starts. As it stands its hard to bet on anything but a Tory majority.

I agree Bellini.

It's a real blind spot for some of these people - they profoundly believe they are not racists (and for all his many faults I personally think Corbyn isn't) but they do not understand that their position on Zionism is enabling other people who really are racists.

The stubbornness of the older white male left is a real problem - though actually being unable to apologise is a wider problem - we seem to be a nation of people who can no longer admit errors and say sorry.

Mistigri · 27/11/2019 06:47

Speaking of which, did anyone else see Gove and Hannan doing a racism on twitter last night?

It was very, very UKIP - reminiscent of the Mike Read Calypso song - but they won't be sanctioned for it and they certainly won't apologise.

Tanith · 27/11/2019 06:48

The Jewish Chronicle published one of their “serious concerns” articles about Ed Milliband!

www.thejc.com/news/uk-news/serious-concerns-about-ed-miliband-1.18682

What’s the link between Corbyn and Milliband? Oh yes - the usual: Leaders of the Opposition.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:06

Corbyn has nothing to apologise for.

Tanith I wish more people could see what is really going on here.

BlueGingerale · 27/11/2019 07:07

All anti-Zionism is anti-semetism. Lots and lots and lots of countries have / are doing bad things but it is only Israel people complain about. That is what makes it anti-Semitic.

Unless your protest as much about all the other countries that have problems you are anti-Semitic.

And while you continue to ignore the very very complicated position in Israel you are an anti-Semite. The countries are at war. Israel has to keep its own citizens safe. If you deny Israel’s right to keep its own citizens safe you are an anti-Semite.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:13

Blue, People complain/protest against other countries (including the UK) actions all the time.

Protestants have the right to live in NI but am I not allowed to criticise some of the actions of the British government over the decades? Or would this make me sectarian?

BaloneyInMySlacks · 27/11/2019 07:16

Hmm
bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:23

Making an ethnic group responsible for the actions of a country is wrong.
Seeking the destruction of Israel is wrong. It is antisemitism.
Antizionism = seeking the destruction of Israel .
Criticising the Likud government is what people in Israel do all the time.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:26

I think people are capable of distinguishing between Jewish people and the actions of the Israeli government. In the same way people are capable of distinguishing between Americans and the Trump administration.

chomalungma · 27/11/2019 07:27

If you deny Israel’s right to keep its own citizens safe you are an anti-SemiteIf you deny Israel’s right to keep its own citizens safe you are an anti-Semite

There are some prominent Jewish people who are concerned about the actions of the Israeli Government towards the Palestinian people. There are some prominent Israelis who are concerned about the actions oft he Israeli Government towards the Palestinian people. It should be possible to have concerns about the actions of 1 country's Government towards another country without facing cries of anti-semitism.

Just as in the same way, it should be possible to have concerns over the actions of some trans people towards women's space and proposed law changes without being called transphobic.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:27

If you were vile enough to hold all Protestants responsible for the actions of the UVF, Corbyn would probably share a stage with you and call you a friend.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:29

"I think people are capable of distinguishing between Jewish people and the actions of the Israeli government."

That's rather the point. Many many people, including posters on here, aren't.

Stinkyeddie · 27/11/2019 07:32

blue
Utter rubbish.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:32

It's possible to love Labour but despise Corbyn. And yet many posters seem to have a problem getting that too.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:32

This is more about Corbyn bashing than anything else isn't it bellin? How else would you showe horn him into a comment about NI.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:33

Shoe horn

chomalungma · 27/11/2019 07:34

I am sure there are many groups who are concerned if the Conservatives get in - given the behaviour and attitudes of members of some of the Conservative party.

I wonder if they will be able to get their concerns heard in the media and given prominent headlines?

Bigotry and hatred towards others is wrong. All groups who face such bigotry and hatred should be able to have their concerns heard, even though some media groups don't think they should be given prominence - probably because they have played a role in promoting it.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:35

@GhostofFrankGrimes , I'm half Irish and half Jewish, so , for me, tbe two are easily connected.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:38

It still doesn't explain shoe horning corbyn into everything. I am an irish citizen, not that it is important in the context of this discussion.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:39

You don't like talking about it. @GhostofFrankGrimes . That's not shoehorning.

Frankiestein402 · 27/11/2019 07:41

their position on Zionism is enabling other people who really are racists
So what the hell should I rail against? What term is available for the way the Israeli government is treating the Palestinians?

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:42

Talk about what? My comparison was about protestants rights to live in NI and the actions of the British government. That had nothing to do with Corbyn.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:45

And I explained my response to your analogy.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/11/2019 07:47

Ah, the 40 year old "selfie". Desperate stuff.

bellinisurge · 27/11/2019 07:48

You love Corbyn. I don't. I don't think he's fit to be PM. I think he's a professional activist with poor judgment about who "friends " are. And I despise Johnson too. He's a feckless ignorant piece of shit who isn't fit to be PM either.
