The Brexit Party aren't doing one.

The Labour Party apparently can't afford theirs.

The Conservatives will just lie anyway.

And the LDs got upstaged by Prince Andrew's resignation from royal duties for being a fuckwit.

3 weeks to go...

I am quite surprised not to have received anything from the Conservatives, Brexit or the Lib Dems yet.

My Labour MP has been to my street - I haven't put her poster up in the window yet as I just want one of the other candidates to come and chat with me. My area is potentially a Leave area - so I am surprised not to have had any other parties around yet.

Alsohuman · 21/11/2019 22:51

I had a LibDem leaflet. It said nothing. Nothing else has come through the door, neither has anyone knocked on it.

derxa · 21/11/2019 22:54

I take it you didnt see Corbyn to stop and that all journalists would be heard with respect? Did they ban any journalists derxa?
I saw Corbyn and Rebecca Long Bailey smirking.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2019 22:56

It does take time to canvass umpteen thousand houses and deliver leaflets . Especially given daylight restrictions and weather and probably prior commitments. Give them a chance.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 21/11/2019 22:57

Awww was she smirking, ffs is this for real? I'm howliing here, after the vile shit she has said about Corbyn he still asks the audience to respect her but oh dear me RLB was smirking Grin Grin

Icantreachthepretzels · 21/11/2019 22:57

I had something from the Lib Dems - but if it was electoral stuff it was rubbish because it came across more like a newsletter, with no mention of a candidate. It might have just been a newsletter.

I've been getting fliers from the labour candidate since before the GE was announced.

I've not had anything from the loathsome toad tory sitting MP whatsoever. Considering the size of his majority (331) it seems like an odd choice for him not to bother campaigning.

LouiseCollins28 · 21/11/2019 22:57

Just been reading the “The Final Say On Brexit” part of Labour’s new manifesto and to say I am unimpressed is putting it as mildly as I can. As a pro “Deal” Leaver I was already sceptical. Sceptical about the party’s proposal to renegotiate a new deal without making any commitment to it, but it’s much worse than that.

Almost every sentence of their principles talks about “close”; “alignment” and “participation” as the features of a post Leave relationship with the EU

The principles expressed as underpinning Labour’s “credible Leave option” hold no credibility for me as a Leave voter at all, literally none. There is nothing in what they propose that constitutes meaningfully leaving the EU in any scenario they envisage.

Ellie56 · 21/11/2019 22:59

We've had the Tory leaflet with the ubiquitous mantra "Get Brexit Done." Hmm

I see the clown's running away from the C4 debate and the hustings in Uxbridge. Cluck cluck! Grin

TatianaLarina · 21/11/2019 23:00

I’ve had quite a lot of stuff from Labour and LDs. Nothing from the Tories. They must know.

derxa · 21/11/2019 23:03

but oh dear me RLB was smirking This is the woman they are setting up to be the successor to Jeremy Corbyn. The party of John Smith Donald Dewar and Robin Cook. Did they smirk? No they were decent people.

ArseDarkly · 21/11/2019 23:08

Never smirked eh?

Westminstenders: Manifesto or Bust?
JustAnotherPoster00 · 21/11/2019 23:10

From the party of John Major, Ken Clarke, Michael Hesseltine

Did they smirk? No

You can keep scrolling on by for another 20 days as much as you like. Then the electorate gets to have their say about how much they like having their pockets picked for £83 billion a year (plus nationalisations). Smile

We've had a flier from the SNP and I've had a specific communication from them, while ds has had a postcard flier sent to him by Scottish Labour. I suspect that they were targeting him because he's only 19 - but they're on to hiding to nothing because a) he's not voting here, he's going to vote in his Uni constituency and b) he's voting SNP (he's actually more a natural Green but will leave that until after independence Wink).

Dh has had nothing so far. It will be interesting to see if we get any canvassers around. I'd enjoy wasting the Conservatives, LibDems and Labour's time Grin

‘I’m not going to be bullied into silence.’ The women defying abuse to stand as MPs

https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2019/nov/21/im-not-going-to-be-bullied-into-silence-the-women-defying-abuse-to-stand-as-mps

There has been a well publicised exodus of senior female MPs, yet more women than ever are standing in this election. They explain why

Tucked away in the office of Labour candidate Natalie Fleet is a pop-up wendy house, meant to keep the children of campaign volunteers happy.

But on the morning I visit, nobody can play there.
In the middle of the night, someone smashed in the windows of her campaign headquarters in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, showering everything in broken glass.

Now the office is out of bounds for volunteers until it can be made safe.

“It’s deliberate, it’s targeted and it’s not very nice; and, unfortunately, in this climate it’s also predictable,”

BigChocFrenzy · 21/11/2019 23:17

"John Smith Donald Dewar and Robin Cook. Did they smirk?"

They all made fun of the Tories and received the same back
That's politics

Framing their opponents, dirty tricks - no, they didn't do that
That's just the current Tories, copying Trump

ArseDarkly · 21/11/2019 23:20

There is nothing in what they propose that constitutes meaningfully leaving the EU in any scenario they envisage.

So vote Tory. But I am 100% certain you get the Brexit you want from Johnson either - he will sell us all out.

ArseDarkly · 21/11/2019 23:21
  • you WON'T get the Brexit you want
DrBlackbird · 21/11/2019 23:23

Thank you all (most) for this thread. Best political analysis going. But huge thanks for providing the only laughs to be had in these dark grim days. Loved thebrexitparty link and thetorymanifesto one even more.

MrsL yes very rich people don't like paying a lot of money out in taxes eg what happened to France's super tax, but back home in Canada my BiL was in a 65% tax bracket. He still managed to own multiple high end cars, have multiple annual holidays etc. My friends as nurses are in 40% tax bracket but still live comfortable lives. So the UK's highest tax band is what nurses in Canada routinely pay. There's a lot of perspective in what's considered 'fair' taxes. You can imagine how I was bemused and a bit shocked to arrive in this country and hear folks raging about 20% tax rates. 🤦‍♀️
