Westminstenders: Manifesto or Bust?

The Brexit Party aren't doing one.

The Labour Party apparently can't afford theirs.

The Conservatives will just lie anyway.

And the LDs got upstaged by Prince Andrew's resignation from royal duties for being a fuckwit.

3 weeks to go...

Anyway it's not diehard Labour voters Corbyn has to convince. It's wishy washy floating voters like me. Saying that it's all media bias etc just won't cut it. It's back to the idea that the electorate are all dimwits and voted for Brexit etc.

Mistigri · 24/11/2019 15:29

I expect in the next year or two, once Corbs has gone, we'll hear the same arguments about Labour politicians meeting ANC leaders, as the memory of Mandela fades.

I think this is either a concerted effort to derail (yes we read the Brexit arms threads) or just unhealthily obsessive.

ListeningQuietly · 24/11/2019 15:29

If Prince Philip and the Queen can shake hands with the IRA and move forwards, I suggest its time we all did.

Corbyn was and is a non entity
Allowing Boris to drive the country over a cliff due to historic prejudice
is shooting yourself in the foot

MockersFactCheckMN · 24/11/2019 15:31

Who remembers Thatcher who said Mandela was a terrorist but playd host to Pinochet who tortured women with genital electrc shocks and rape by dogs.

BercowsFestiveFlamingo · 24/11/2019 15:31

Good god, I've been having a rest from the threads for a while and I've come back to so much anger between posters. This isn't how the westminstenders threads usually are Sad

I live in hazel grove constituency and labour have no chance here. Voting Lib Dem with a peg on my nose and washing out my mind with bleach is the only way to get Tory twat Wragg out. The LDs are strong here and do a lot in the community. Personally I'm more aligned with labour but a tactical vote is needed here.

Its probably somewhere in the middle. The media has a powerful influence (otherwise people like Murdoch would't bother buying news outlets) and a lack of general understanding about complex issues (like EU membership).

Westminstenders: Manifesto or Bust?
bellinisurge · 24/11/2019 15:33

What the Queen did was fucking amazing. I started admiring her after that. Pretty sure she didn't do it just after the IRA tried to murder the UK government. A UK government I hated.
Sorry for being old and remembering stuff. And likening Mandela to Adams is sick. And not in a nice way.

Westminstenders: Manifesto or Bust?
Mistigri · 24/11/2019 15:34

I agree with Ghost here - the media has a problem with Corbyn but at the same time Labour hasn't exactly reached out to the centre. And so here we are.

ListeningQuietly · 24/11/2019 15:36

Bellini
I say the Queen and Philip because the IRA blew up the person who hosted the first night of their honeymoon.
Nothing to do with Brighton.
All to do with a family on holiday being murdered
and the Queen moved on from it.

I bloody know that ffs.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2019 15:42

And likening Mandela to Adams is sick

Why? Because the mainstream British view took Mandela from terrorist to hero because he wanted an end to white dominance. Whereas the British establishment is still coming to terms with its role in Ireland and how it helped create the Republican movement?

All to do with a family on holiday being murdered and the Queen moved on from it. I salute her and Prince Philip. However I don't think you 'move on' from having members of your family murdered.

I’m older than you and I remember stuff too. Both Mandela and Adams were regarded as terrorists in certain quarters. Remember the adage about terrorists and freedom fighters?

bellinisurge · 24/11/2019 15:43

I'm happy to move on . I don't like "useful idiots" in government. He's a textbook "useful idiot ".

"So you want Boris to be in Number 10"

There's nothing inherently wrong with this but the pretend scruples get my goat.

dreichwinter · 24/11/2019 15:47

And likening Mandela to Adams is sick. And not in a nice way

Honestly I would have said they more in common than separated them.
Most importantly they both ended up choosing a pragmatic and imperfect peace for their country.

bellinisurge · 24/11/2019 15:49

I'm half Irish. I don't need any lectures on what a terrorist is.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 24/11/2019 15:53

I'm half Irish. I don't need any lectures on what a terrorist is.

What the hell does this mean? It could actually be construed as being quite offensive. I'm of Irish stock BTW.

ListeningQuietly · 24/11/2019 16:00

I'm half Irish. I don't need any lectures on what a terrorist is.
And the Irish people I met last week in many towns and situations are much more worried about
what Boris might do
than what Jeremy might have done.

If you keep looking backwards you will fall over the cliff

MockersFactCheckMN · 24/11/2019 16:01

You need to read Mandela's Rivonia speech to understand why the ANC turned to violence after fifty years of peaceful protest.

No question who the terrorists were in the Apartheid RSA. They were the NP Nazis and their BOSS Gestapo.

It was the greatest honour of my life to meet and talk with Robyn Slovo. What happened to her mum was terrorism naked in tooth and claw. And the poisoned T-Shirts they sent to her and her sisters were the icing on the cake.
