Bide your time, Bellini. A sensible centrist Labour Party has to emerge from the ashes eventually.

I'm not a Labour voter but I do believe it would be to the benefit of us all. The only way to keep a governing party honest is to have an Opposition that is a credible government-in-waiting.

Jezza has failed all of us IMO, whatever our political affiliation.

Limer · 07/11/2019 17:36

Conditions aren't quite the same as when the original SDP was formed after the Gang Of Four broke away from Labour in 1981, but I could easily see something similar happening soon.

Dapplegrey · 07/11/2019 17:37

This is where a revival of Screamin Lord Sutch and the Raving Looney Monster party would be welcome.

Yes.....to those planning on spoiling their ballot what about the alternative of voting for one of the niche parties which field candidates in many constituencies - the Dog Lovers’ Party or Keep Chippenham Crime Fred Party or whatever?

Dapplegrey · 07/11/2019 17:38

Crime Free even

bellinisurge · 07/11/2019 17:41

@Dapplegrey and @DustyDiamond , I'll see what's on my ballot paper and hope that the Brexit Party aren't a threat locally. If they are, I will hold my nose and vote Labour [shudders at the thought]

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 17:42

I had high hopes for TIG when it was first formed - purely as a means of saving what I would call Decent Labour. However, it quickly muddied the waters when it admitted three Conservatives, one of whom was strongly pro-austerity.

After that, it was more preoccupied with changing its name every week.

Now it's polling between zilch and 0.001%.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 17:43

“I appreciate that this pub is for Leavers which gives customers a choice of 3 parties but I have none.”

I really sympathise with this position, it’s clearly more straightforward for me. I would hate to be on the other side of this right now.

bellinisurge · 07/11/2019 17:48

Thank you @Epicwaffle - there are more Westminsterenders like this than you think.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 17:52

Here's an article from CapX that sums up the dilemma for those presented with the Remainer Alliance Pact.

https://capx.co/the-remain-alliance-should-beware-telling-voters-who-to-vote-for/?omhide=true&utmsource=CapX+briefing&utmmcampaign=d29de6b3ba-EMAILCAMPAIGNN201707717COPYY02&utmmedium=email&utmmterm=0b5017135a0-d29de6b3ba-241809933

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 17:52

“Thank you @Epicwaffle - there are more Westminsterenders like this than you think.”

I read it, I don’t contribute for obvious reasons, but I do see that Bellini, and despite how we all joke around and have a larf in here, we do understand that frustration, despite being frustrated for other reasons ourselves. Smile

Saucery · 07/11/2019 17:53

I’d love a niche party to pop up on my ballot paper! Problem solved. Brexit Party is completely out, Tommy Robinson appeared on the last one, which was chilling. Give me a benign single issue party, however silly, and I’ll vote for them, probably. But place a cross somewhere, I must.

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 18:14

That article Lily!

Electoral pacts being 'top down' and like being ordered to do something - exactly what people are raging about!!

They're so caught up in their own self-importance that they've forgotten their actual purpose - to serve & represent the people.

OP posts:
Saucery · 07/11/2019 18:37

Reducing voter choice further is so arrogant. If you’re representing the Green Party why the hell would you stand down and make way for the Lib Dems. You’re letting down the people who want to vote Green - what does that say about how much you think your party is worth? Not as much as the Lib Dems, obviously. Breathtakingly patronising.

ArseDarkly · 07/11/2019 18:39

Dusty Diamond. Have a look at the SDP

You'll have to look hard, they are so microscopic they hardly exist and what you can see in the petrie dish is pretty unedifying - failed ukippers who only just scraped more votes than Monster Raving Looney and...er..Rod Liddle, arsehole journalist.

As a party they're more pointless than a spoiled ballot.

howabout · 07/11/2019 18:43

Singing that Capx article spells out exactly what I was thinking earlier.

SNP aren't going for pacts. They're going for 1 Party State Sad

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 18:58

As a party they're more pointless than a spoiled ballot.

🤷🏻‍♀️

If I was truly stuck & couldn't vote for any of the main parties I'd pick a small party, no matter how 'microscopic' they were.

And their policies appeal to me

Couldn't give a fuck who votes for them either - you're voting for & hoping for a Labour win ffs 😂

Jezbollah is a foul person, as is McDonnell

I love CapX. It's UK-centric but reports across the political spectrum and from right around the world.

Wynona, if you are still around, recommend you look at this website. It has articles from Leavers and Remainers, Scots Nationalists and Unionists, Northern Ireland ditto. It really makes me think.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 19:01

Jezbollah.

Priceless! 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣

GenuineQuestions · 07/11/2019 19:09

And out of all these lunatics, terrorist supporting nutters, democracy haters comes dear toddler esq Boris.. Bumbling forward from this pack of rabid wolves behind him...

Toddling forth with his strange awkward walk. ... Dear... Toddler like, blonde hair... Blue eyes 😂.... Unleash Britain's potential.

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 19:15

I'm not a massive BJ fan tbh - I think he's the right person for now, but I'm not convinced he's right person for long term

There's a female Tory backbencher I've seen on politics live a couple of times who stood out as maybe one to watch but I can't remember her name for the life of me

I wanted Raab for Tory leader 🥰

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 19:16

Bumbling forward from this pack of rabid wolves behind him...

That's the public persona and it serves him well. Boris is no idiot.

GenuineQuestions · 07/11/2019 19:19

I'm sure he isn't angelic, well of course he isn't, he's treated his wife awfully, but right now to me, he looks like an angelic toddler.

Saucery · 07/11/2019 19:30

John Snow giving Ian Austin a bit of a time on Ch4 News.

BelleHathor · 07/11/2019 19:33

Boris is definitely Mr. Right Now 😎🤣. The Tories have (maybe had?) a reputation for being ruthless. When we are negotiating the FTA, the gloves come off and we are going to need some of that ruthlessness to avoid being screwed over 🤔

Saucery · 07/11/2019 19:39

They’ve fielded BJ to add a frisson of unpredictability to that ruthlessness is my theory.
They think the best way to push Brexit through is to have a shambolic textbook public schoolboy who has appeared on news satire TV shows and isn’t too proud to squash himself on many tiny primary school chairs/wear a lab coat 3 sizes too small, whilst indulging in intemperate parliamentary actions and bothering the Queen.
They may be right.
