Hilarious SingingLily

Reminds me of this old election poster from the 80s.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 14:24

Limer 😂😂😂

I shouldn't laugh, really. This is a man who doesn't appear to have changed his mind since 1983, after all. A purler though.

Limer · 07/11/2019 14:26

Not keen on marrow or courgettes. Gherkins though, are delicious! Any chance of the Brexit Arms getting some in? I'm sure they'll be more popular than those rather dodgy pickled eggs.

howabout · 07/11/2019 14:42

Completely with you on marrows and courgettes Bellini Smile

Even more nutritionally devoid than lettuce imho although according to wiki you can poison your neighbours with them Shock

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 14:53

Omg @howabout

“In August 2015, a 79-year-old German man and his wife ate a marrow grown by a neighbour. The couple noted the unusually bitter taste. Shortly afterwards they were both admitted to Heidenheim hospital, apparently with symptoms of a gastrointestinal infection. The woman, who had eaten a smaller portion, survived, while the man died. Toxicological analysis of the meal confirmed the presence of cucurbitacin.[16]”

What if my neighbour had, not just ‘odd’ intentions, but nefarious ones? 😱

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 14:53

Just musing about what Jezza would put in his sealed letters to the four Trident sub commanders if he ever reached No. 10.

Love the poster Limer 😂😂😂😂

Growing massive yet flaccid marrows for nothing more than an ego boost does not surprise me if I'm honest 😟

That poster is hilarious @limer

It is hilarious, it is very funny, would love to have seen Michael Foot's stupid pacifist face when that poster went up! Grin

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 15:16

😂 I think Maggie would have used only three words, Dusty. Time being of the essence, and all that.

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 15:21

Taste of the Motherland...

😱😱😱

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 15:26

Warning! May contain marrows.

DustyDiamond · 07/11/2019 15:30

Campaign Slogans:

  • Stop Brexit
  • Build a Brighter Future
  • Get Brexit Sorted in 6 Months
  • It's Time for Real Change
  • Get Brexit Done
  • Unleash Britain's Potential

Cumminsky really likes his snappy 3 word slogans...!
Take Back Control
People vs Parliament
etc

Lazy slogans Dmitri

Dapplegrey · 07/11/2019 15:35

I thought that picture of McDonnell standing beneath a banner depicting Stalin and Mao deeply sinister and commented on it on another thread. Poster bertrandrussell said she thought it was ‘a bit silly’!
I think it’s bloody terrifying.
Just imagine the uproar if a conservative mp stood under a banner depicting Hitler.

SingingLily · 07/11/2019 15:52

Cumminsky really likes his snappy 3 word slogans...!

Including the two he had all ready and waiting if the Rotten Parliament had forced us into a second referendum:

"They're not listening"

"Tell them again"

Saucery · 07/11/2019 16:08

Hello, I swooped in with a comment about looming faces on buses yesterday, hope that’s ok.
I have no rodenty features (although a small mouse lives in peace and safety in our garden).

I voted Leave, probably wouldn’t again due to the colossal fuckup it’s all proved to be, have no favoured party as they all need to stop bickering and slagging each other off and get on with showing me why I should vote for them. So, hope a cynical political flipflop voter can find a seat away from the door to the toilets Smile

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 16:14

Exactly Dapple.

Mao in fact was arguably worse than Hitler (although that kind of comparison makes me feel a little dirty because it goes without saying that Hitler was an utterly evil cunt.)

Mao was responsible for the murder and associated death of the largest amount of people on record. 42-45 million are the most commonly used estimates.

It’s not “silly”. it’s horrific. And I genuinely lose sleep at night, fearing that people who sympathise with maoist ideology, even on a tertiary level. Could very soon potentially have power in this country. I naively, my whole life grew up with the thought that things like this only happened in other places, far away, and thanked my lucky stars every day for that.

Has anyone read ‘Wild Swans’? If not, it gives a real and disturbing personal insight into just what living under Mao’s rule was actually like for 3 generations of women. A fascinating micro glimpse. I highly recommend! The most disturbing aspect, is that it wasn’t an Orwellian ‘imagined’ dystopia. It was very real, very brutal and and very difficult to read at times.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 16:20

Hey @saucery, I pulled a seat up at the bar for you! Welcome back! Wink

I haven’t changed my mind, but I can totally sympathise with your reasons for doing so! Grin And I agree, politicians of all stripes currently? Twats.

My choice is the least worst option that delivers brexit. Tory.

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 16:21

It’s not exactly a resounding success for any party that the electorate are all playing least worst really! History will certainly not favour any of them.

Saucery · 07/11/2019 16:26

This virtual bar is more like talking to people in rl about Brexit and politics than many other threads on here and elsewhere.
I’m wondering if Penny Mordaunt’s emojis will take off on here. Or.....anywhere. Hoot with laughter in the car this morning at someone not feeling able to drop a colleague a DM telling them to dial down the keyboard warrior act but having a handy Yellow Card emoji instead. Because that wouldn’t piss people off at all, would it? 🤔

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 16:30

“This virtual bar is more like talking to people in rl about Brexit and politics than many other threads on here and elsewhere.”

Glad you feel that, it’s definitely the intention!

Also the passive agressive yellow card thing! GrinGrinGrin

Epicwaffle · 07/11/2019 16:34

Maybe we need a PA yellow card... 🤔

I was considering moving from a ‘grey rock’ (glitterball) policy for goadiness, to a John Major ‘Grey man’ policy on the last pub thread. But a yellow card could work? 🤷🏻‍♀️GrinGrinGrin

I see no reason it wouldn’t go down well? Wink

Thoughts #ComradeHilda?
