larry55, SW here too and a Leaver 👋

The Landlady's gone to bed. Help yourself to a drink from behind the bar.

By the way, BearBehind, I'm not a sock puppet either. Even if I share similar views to Xing and Hate. Have a drink and relax.

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 21:52

Never let it be said you're guaranteed a quiet night in The Arms. FFS Bear don't look for things that aren't there. Sit down and have a pint, it's wet and cold, warm up and then tell me I'm someone else too.

XingMing (or whoever)

Yeah ...

In April 2015, the Conservative Party manifesto committed to “200,000 Starter Homes

As of 5th November 2019:

No Starter Homes have been built to date.

Oh dear.

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 22:05

Ok, tarra then Arse, don't let the door bang on your......Ooops I see it did. Never mind, it's an old door, you'll get the hang of it next time.

"I Am" - I fully admit to it being a typo. But that is the 'cost' of not Previewing' my posts before posting them.

However, in this case I really liked my typo because one of my favourite Stone Carvers of all time (also of our own times) carved a big stone as a bespoke commission that stated "I Am".

So, maybe my Freud slipped and I mispoke with something Real.

Doubletrouble99 · 14/11/2019 22:07

Evening all, a G and T for me please, I know little about the SW apart from we are off to Cornwall next summer on holiday for the first time.
I live in the Borders of Scotland and we suffer in a similar way to that you have described. We have a large influx of professionals from the 'big city' who commute then retire to the village. Many are great and join in, keep the village school populated and the Surgery running but a few do think they know better than the locals! A certain professor comes to mind who told me at a fairly high powered funding meeting for a big project we are doing that he would get it all built his way then we - the ladies of the committee, could choose the paint colours!!
Guess who's no longer chairman?

VeryGenuinequestions · 14/11/2019 22:10

Goodness, we think we've are alone now but 👀 and ears are always watching Grin

👁️.

Orwell.

I think any subject is up in the arms, its a boozer after all Grin

I don't want to depress anyone or upset any one with current painful issues. I've experienced 4 close different deaths now.
The only thing that scares me about being terminally ill is that I will be forced by the state to die how it chooses and when.

We need a revolution here. Legislation exists in other countries to safely help people die when they want to go and protect others against untoward acts. I've seen it, lived it and breathed it. Putting anyone vulnerable into the care of others needs constant over seeing. It's not pretty. But it's too late when it's you stuck and in pain.

However.... I will get off my soap box now.

Singing can I have red wine please and brannigans ham and mustard crisps.

My entire area has been given over to extensive house building and no increase in services or infrastructure.

Our roads are already so packed. It always amazes me when we drive to the continent and hit French roads not far from calais.. Empty.

Up to bruges... Empty....

Amazing really, almost pleasant to drive without the mad crush on our roads!

I wonder what Corbyns lot are telling him on campaign trail. Its hard to know if committed secret brexiters are saying keep on as you are, they are turning to tories in droves...

Eh? You're starting to sound like HAL when it's malfunctioning Grin

VeryGenuinequestions · 14/11/2019 22:14

Double there is a certain generation of men used to power with nothing else to do than dabble in local politics.

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 22:19

Continuity but we don't need any 'starter homes' just to be able to buy the homes that are already here.

As an aside to the housing situation, despite everything, as a local population, it has recently been found that we do have higher levels of 'happiness' than the national average. Yes, I would say that we do. There could be many reasons for this but I think mainly it's because we don't have unrealistic expectations and appreciate what we do have, the things that can't be bought, like the sky and the tides.

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 22:20

What is HAL Arse - I think we should be told.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 14/11/2019 22:24

What is HAL Arse - I think we should be told

Oh good lord

How old are you

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 22:29

Old enough for somethings and too young for others. I also enjoy learning new things. Funnily enough my DS18 doesn't know everything either, nor everything I do but knows stuff I don't.

So, without making a deal, can anyone simply explain it?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 14/11/2019 22:32

HAL 9000 is a fictional artificial intelligence character and the main antagonist in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series

There we go

Its a computer basically

BelleHathor · 14/11/2019 22:33

Hate , from wiki "HAL 9000 is a fictional artificial intelligence character and the main antagonist in Arthur C. Clarke's Space Odyssey series. First appearing in the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, HAL is a sentient computer that controls the systems of the Discovery One spacecraft and interacts with the ship's astronaut crew."

Stanley kubrick film.

Don't worry, some people are obsessed with '' Russian bots''Grin

We've been accused of only having two punters in this bar. Maybe someone thinks we are actually all just the landlady... Brilliant landlady with octopus mind and typing, posting capacity.. After all there can't possibly be more than 3 of us who want to leave on mumsnet Grin

VeryGenuinequestions · 14/11/2019 22:37

Indeed arse

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 14/11/2019 22:38

Well it’s obviously gotten a bit tetchy in here

So I’ll fuck off again

HateIsNotGood · 14/11/2019 22:46

HAL - I actually thought this might mean Having A Laugh - whilst all internet systems went down. Probably the weather, which is being a bit inclement.

So HAL is a fictional character from a sci-fi book/movie? thank god for that, for all I know it could have been an anacronym for "we have just thrown spunk and urine all over face" and I wouldn't ever have known.

VeryGenuinequestions · 14/11/2019 23:09

Arf hate, Grin

Hate the opposite side of my genuine side Grin

SingingLily · 14/11/2019 23:40

Oh no, I've just dropped in to tidy up behind the bar and I've missed all the excitement. Hate, if I've told you once, I've told you a million times, don't sit by the fire right next to Xing - you being identical twins separated at birth and all that. We regulars can tell the difference between the pair of you but it confuses the passing trade.

whilst all internet systems went down.

This isn't a reference to Jezza's amazing offer of free broadband for all by part-nationalising BT, is it? Even his biggest cheerleader on the Press Preview tonight was scrabbling around for a reason to spin it as sane and sensible.

Big retail offer = desperation, methinks. Sir John Curtice has said tonight that the chances of Labour forming a majority government are as close to zero as you can get.

darkcloudsandrainstorms · 15/11/2019 00:25

Every brexit related post is false.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 15/11/2019 00:39

Can I have 2 triple vodkas please. No ice. RIGHT NOW please.

I have just watched Newsnight and apparently Corbyn is now planning on nationalising the internet. WT actual F? Sky, Virgin, BT, Plusnet etc is all going to be seized by Corbyn and everyone in the UK will be given free internet.

Did I just bang my head on the wall to many times?

And I thought it was bad this morning when apparently everyone will only be allowed to work 4 days a week. Apart from doctors and nurses. Or not... who knows?

I only just got Amazon prime... Sad This country is going to the dogs.
