“This is clearly where we differ in our expectations of what they will actually do, given recent experience.”

Grin touche’

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 17:11

😆

Epicwaffle · 08/11/2019 17:11

Also what I was hinting at when I said ‘make some attempt’ of course... WinkGrin

howabout · 08/11/2019 17:11

Parker the BBC headline reads "Brexit: No checks on goods between NI and GB, says PM". That is what people will read and remember when they vote.

(I did read the article which is couched in so many ifs, buts, ands and maybes as to be completely incomprehensible. I therefore didn't bother with the video).

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 17:14

*Then we can leave the parlimentarians to at least make some attempt to begin the jobs that they are paid and mandated to do

This is clearly where we differ in our expectations of what they will actually do, given recent experience.*

Sir Lindsay Hoyle (please God, let him be confirmed as Speaker by the new HoC) has already made it clear that he will undo Bercow's constitutional meddling and restore order and respect in the House. I believe he will.

Providing we have a clear majority, the FTPA should be ditched. Cabinet discipline has already been restored on the Conservative side. The malcontents who hypocritically stood on a Leave manifesto and then did everything they could to subvert not only the referendum result but their own manifesto commitment have either resigned, jumped ship, or been pushed out.

Trust in democracy has to be restored. It's vital. The new Parliament has to work on that and pull together or be measured and found wanting.

For me, the most potent symbol of a fully functioning democracy is the humble removal van.

Long may we exercise the power of the removal van.

"Political twitter won't like this. But day of news with circular arguments about the NI border is not entirely unhelpful to the Conservative election message. People will watch it, be bored and want to get Brexit done. And no - I highly doubt it was planned like this "

"Yes of course, anyone who tunes will think Johnson is a chancer. But they already think those things. And any discussion of leadership and suitability to be PM, inevitably invites the comparison with Corbyn. Again, not entirely unhelpful for Southern squeeze".

Yep

Saucery · 08/11/2019 17:36

Hoyle is a tiny beacon of hope. Might turn out to just be marsh gas but.....

ArseDarkly · 08/11/2019 17:48

Bearbehind -
'The trouble is Brexit won’t be ‘done’ for years and years
The consequences of it are going to need dealing with certainly through the next 5 years, and that’s just sorting the FTA. And if we don’t get that agreed by the end of the transition then we’re back to no deal, and even more time where Brexit just takes up most of the agenda'

'And for what?'

Great post. That ought to be emblazoned on posters all over the country.

Dying for a cuppa Brew

Agree wholeheartedly
This GE is a massive reset, long overdue.

Dying for a cuppa

This GE is a massive reset, long overdue Hell yes!

Got my own thanks Brew

ArseDarkly · 08/11/2019 18:32

About 3 and half years overdue in fact..

Limer · 08/11/2019 18:48

It's Friday night, no cuppa for me, time for Wine

I'm glad we're finally having a GE, ever since the 2017 one we've needed another!

Not worried about Brexit taking time to finalise all details, in fact the details need careful scrutiny on all sides. And I want to keep the issue of a country leaving at the forefront of European politics, I expect other countries to follow us out.

The Lib Dems never cease to amaze me with their ineptitude. This time, with Labour veering way to the left, I thought the Lib Dems would easily grab loads of that centre ground. But it hasn't happened. Not yet anyway.

Epicwaffle · 08/11/2019 18:49

Right I’m done. Cant take this stupid goady childish bullshit anymore. MNHQ do next to zero about the constant attacks and stupid goading. And all the while we get called out as bullies all over every other thread that we dont post on. Because we try and ignore and not to rise to specific posters, who know exactly what they are doing. And before someone comes along like before, to tell me “off you fuck, you wont be missed”, then has the brass neck to call us out like twats on other threads. Save your fucking breath. Done. Sorry to the nice posters who I’ve had a great time with here, but this shit is no longer worth it. Flowers to all the lovely folks, leave or remain.

Limer · 08/11/2019 18:56

What's happened Epic ?

Don't leave the Brexit Arms!

ArseDarkly · 08/11/2019 18:59

The Lib Dems never cease to amaze me with their ineptitude

They do seem to have an amazing knack for picking the wrong leader! Still, there's 5 weeks to go..gawd knows what will happen in that time.

Personally, I'm hoping Johnson will be suddenly hoiked off stage for a charge of Misconduct in Public Office...

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 19:01

@Epicwaffle

Please don't go! Don't give up just because of one or two puerile posters. Have a breather, have a proper cuppa (or something stronger), have a think, and then come back.

This place would not be the same without you.

Don't let the goady ones win.

💐

Saucery · 08/11/2019 19:03

You’re not taking your tankard with you, Epic. It’s staying put behind this bar for when you return.

DustyDiamond · 08/11/2019 19:15

Epic you big fanny! Have a nice cuppa with me & the comrades & we'll sort this shit out

Here's one I brewed earlier 😘

Solidarity Comrade ✊🌹

Oh dear Epic, please don't go I've only just got in the door and caught up!
To Bear, the point of wanting Brexit done in my mind is that we will be 'out', no going back, no more shenanigans with remainers and the vote will have been honoured. So the fact that trade agreements could take a while, well so what, we will be out and that is that.

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 19:28

This GE is a massive reset, long overdue.

I absolutely don’t doubt that a massive rest is long overdue.

But equally, I absolutely don’t believe this GE will deliver it

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 19:30

What happened epic?

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 19:31

He soon swapped the cuppa for something stronger. Now he's after a refill. Trouble is, there's only your tankard that's clean, Epic. The pub dishwasher is on a full cycle. What shall I do?

Evening all, a Pint of Best and a packet of Twiglets please.

double, the way I see it, and always have, is that leaving the EU is going to increase the problems and issues that need to be dealt with.

I appreciate you disagree but the facts don’t appear to

Brexit is going to be the top of the agenda for a long time to come - and at what price to the other shit that actually really does need sorting?

HateIsNotGood · 08/11/2019 19:36

Apols for not coming in for a sit down at the fire with a pint for awhile, but it's been a busy, but worthwhile week.

I've been reading most pages but will sup me pint and catch up with the most recent.
