🍺 Hi Hate

Cheers to a worthwhile week 🍻

I'm starting back at work next week so have been mostly mourning the impending loss of endless time to do masses of nothing 😢

I've been almost completely disengaged from politics which has been quite nice actually as the last couple of months were stoking my rage - now I'm chill before the storm of Election Day....!

Precious first born son passed his driving test today as well so now I've something different to fret about 😩

Vats of 🍷 & gallons of Gin for everyone in the pub tonight - hopefully Comrade Epic will be back soon as well...

Epic, what happened.

Tell us.

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 19:48

🙏 Comrade epic.

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 19:48

By the way, I've no idea where that photo of a thirsty Boris came from. I didn't download it, I swear. I'm a diehard technophobe.

#ClassicDimitri?

Could have been a whole lot worse, of course. It could have been a photo of Jezza and Nicola setting off on a motorcycling holiday in Germany. 😱🏍👽

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 19:52

Comrade landlady, cheers to your son passing his driving test 🍹🍹🍹🍾🍾

Saucery · 08/11/2019 19:52

A group I’m in have arranged a Christmas meal for Dec 12th. There has been some chat about politics but not too much. I’m reluctant to spend a couple of hours eating mince pies and talking about voting tbh. Maybe I should take some bells and jingle them loudly if it takes over. Perhaps shouting “Father Christmas is coming!” at the same time? Christmas 🎄

HateIsNotGood · 08/11/2019 19:54

Hmm, not sure at what point I should hop in and barge into what conversation, IRL I probably would just watch fire, drink pint and listen in. Which doesn't quite work as well in an internet forum.

Who I vote for in the next GE is probably the easiest GE choice I've ever had to make. Decision already made so everything else is just noise I 'tune out'.

Remain Alliance - if that's their groove - then that's fine, but I do think they've made a few 'odd' choices; a Green standing against Ben Bradshaw (ardent Lab Remainer, popular, sat for years) in Exeter and a Lib Dem in North Cornwall where they got a third of the votes of the elected Tory.

The don't the Leavers know Brexit will go on for years thing; yes I do, so time we made a start on it, don't you think?

Time for another pint of Best, and Dusty, dearest LL, could I have a Cheese&Onion Toastie too please?

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 20:15

Re the time process, in my mind I never thought it would be quick and slick nothing ever has been when countries part.

I just didn't think parliament was full of anti democratic tyrants who would actually over turn or stop the vote.

Once the mental side is done with the, we can let the powers that be thrash through the details. Yes that will take time that's fine.

ArseDarkly · 08/11/2019 20:19

Once the mental side is done with the, we can let the powers that be thrash through the details. Yes that will take time that's fine.

But the ''powers that be' are anti-democratic tyrants aren't they? So presumably they will continue to block any progress? Then what? Confused

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 20:26

Arse I'm assuming tories win large majority.

Then there won't be many tyrants trying to stop the democrat vote anymore.

DustyDiamond · 08/11/2019 20:32

Regional polls by YouGov showing what has been mused previously on here...

Although it seems on the face of it that Brexit Party are splitting leave vote, what's actually happening is they are sucking up Labour leavers

Tory vote is reducing by same amount as Lib Dem is increasing

Overall, this could result in decent Tory majority as Lib Dem's unlikely to get anywhere of note, and Labour tally will be reduced

Wine please, anyone need a top up?

Please don't go Epic. Your posts are always worth a read and the pictures even better. If you are ever looking for a new career, the beerage or HoC awaits you.

If the German economy really tips into recession, and Macron carries through his threat to restrict FOM to embrace qualifications, skills and more stringent checks (and I think the impending GE may make the French establishment consider twice which economic migrants they admit when they say they're headed for the UK, just in case they settle in the banlieue) the hiccup will ripple all the way to the edge of Schengen. And while I feel very sorry for the teenage Afghanis who've been arriving at my friend's reception centre in Greece, without responsible adults, if they are brave and resourceful enough at 14 to make the journey, then their energy and resources are needed to make Afghanistan a success.

ArseDarkly · 08/11/2019 20:37

Well best keep your fingers crossed then Genunine - if it's not a big majority we could well find ourselves right back where we were pre-election - except we'll be that much nearer to 31st Jan Shock

SingingLily · 08/11/2019 20:37

I just didn't think parliament was full of anti democratic tyrants who would actually over turn or stop the vote.

Who amongst us did, GenuineQuestions? We knew so many of them were venal - the expenses scandal exposed that particular little truth some years ago. However, the referendum result exposed the fault lines. That's why we can never go back to what was.

If the Conservatives return with a majority, they've got some serious constitutional reform to undertake. I'm just hoping there will be enough with the appetite for it.

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 20:42

I'm assuming tories win large majority.

Much as I don’t want the Tories to win, part of me would actually like any majority government that can get us out of this limbo.

I simply don’t see where a Tory large majority comes from?

XingMing · 08/11/2019 20:44

A majority would be a good start bear, anything more than 20 is a win!

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 20:46

But there’s little evidence to suggest a majority of 20 is remotely possible

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 20:49

Bear, dear corbyn is turning so many people away.
At this point in time I think for labour it will be the most humiliating return they have ever had.

We know that Labour has hard core cult within it, my df was one! My goodness if they are turning agaisnt Labour... They are doomed.

GenuineQuestions · 08/11/2019 20:50

There was little evidence remain would loose referendum.

There is no one else to vote for.
Unless some huge scandel emerges before election, there is no one else to vote for.

DustyDiamond · 08/11/2019 20:51

I'll try & post the regional polls so you can see what I was wittering about...

Hang on....

OP posts:
Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 20:52

Bear, dear corbyn is turning so many people away.

I don’t doubt that, but they won’t vote Tory.

They’ll either, note vote, spoil their ballot paper or vote for an outside party

HateIsNotGood · 08/11/2019 20:53

So, it's good news all round really Dusty - your DS passing his test, new job for you and in my corner a substantial 'pay rise' from a new client. i try to not get too excited because being self-emp it can end at any time. EU-based clients too.

Epic will be back I'm sure, she's a tough and funny 'bird' so if her feelings are hurt, it won't be for long. I'm sure she said a few pages back that she had RL stuff to get on with.

Anyway, seeing as Xing is buying, I'll have another Best, and some water for the dog please.

Bearbehind · 08/11/2019 20:53

Lol! We’re saying the same thing genuine

Just with different opinions on the outcome

Doubletrouble99 · 08/11/2019 20:56

There you go with your 'facts' again Bear, you should know by now there are no facts about Brexit. You've been trying to get us all to give you facts about what is going to happen. And now your saying you had facts all along!!!

XingMing · 08/11/2019 20:56

Given the original poll, I can't see a decisive result happening. a 4% margin of "victory" suggests a compromise, yet there are so many people piled up behind their no compromise barricades that it's become bitter, but the reality is surely, we need a sensible compromise... as in close to Europe, co-operating with Europe, but not bound hand and foot to follow every notion and rule that might be imposed, and not towards total integration without a clear decision to choose that option.
