It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

Just what we need for Christmas, another totally pointless election that'll resolve nothing. Then they'll break for Christmas and before you know it we've frittered away another extension.

Well I shall still be teaching my first-year students on the day after the election...might have to offer them an independent study day instead so I can stay up all night on the 12th

We don't finish until the 20th, officially.

Is it wrong that my response to a general election is to carb load ?

Bit of a Blow for Laing's bid to replace Bercow there. Qualified Solicitor but couldn't read an amendment and understand it.

I also hear that Grieve has turned up in full dinner jacket and dickie bow, off somewhere after the vote.

The deputy speaker is Eleanor Laing. She is my MP and is very keen on the speaker job. I am very glad she has just shown how rubbish she is because she would IMO be a terrible choice. She voted leave, has contributed funds to the ERG, has a murky expenses history and has proven in my mercifully few encounters with her to be a thoroughly unpleasant person.

I wonder if those invited back are either retiring or haven't been replaced as candidate in their seats?

Nicholas Soames is not standing for re-election.
