It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

Dame Eleanor Laing had the temerity to criticise Bercow recently over his allegedly 'tipping the dice' with his rulings.

@Basilpots I shat myself laughing (not literally!) at that!!!

chomalungma · 29/10/2019 20:17

I wonder what 'points of order' there will be once the vote goes through?

dontcallmelen · 29/10/2019 20:17

PMK as always my thanks to all, I have even a less of an idea of what’s going than usual.

I'll be here for election fest. We NEED to have a thread. We do this every time. Since my grandparents time for sure. Gran was a Labour councillor in the way back when of the 50/60s

NoWordForFluffy · 29/10/2019 20:17

Loads of dykes on the fens. They'll do!

MockersthefeMANist · 29/10/2019 20:18

Parliament will normally reconvene on Monday or Tuesday of the following week, with the new parent of the house, I think Harman, in the chair to choose a new Speaker as first item.

chomalungma · 29/10/2019 20:18

Seriously - walk the bill to the Lords?

Basilpots · 29/10/2019 20:18

Hopefully Dippy that will have just killed her chances with that performance.

Upside with the 12th for election date means the Speakers position will be voted for by this Parliament. One last flipping the bird. Smile

Cherrypi · 29/10/2019 20:19

Ooh election night and strictly final in the same week.

MockersthefeMANist · 29/10/2019 20:20

If this passes, Bercow is staying on until dissolution next week.

A more than possible outcome of this election will be more or less as you were, with Conservatives as largest party but short of a majority. Having called an early election, that means BJ will have lost, and the other parties will be invited to cobble an Anything-But-Boris coalition or confidence pact. Libs have said they will not support Corbyn as PM, but they have a consistent record when offered a sniff of power. DUP, if they get back in, will surely be in the ABB camp.

TokyoSushi · 29/10/2019 20:27

I'm on 'work from home Friday' on 13th, I've put my mother on early morning standby for the DC's if I get the Poll Clerk call up - hope so!

chomalungma · 29/10/2019 20:28

I think it will be a hung Parliament again..........

But who knows?

GeistohneGrenzen · 29/10/2019 20:29

PMK

billysboy · 29/10/2019 20:31

bookies have tories down to win with a majority

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 29/10/2019 20:31

I think hung parliament too. I very much doubt this will solve anything but will waste more precious time and we'll be threatened with no deal again at the end of January.

MockersthefeMANist · 29/10/2019 20:33

Johnson needs to make net gains. He is set to lose seats in Scotland to the SNP, in Wales to remain parties, and in the South-West and London suburbs to LibDems. He will need to find seats in Labour Leave areas without losing them in Tory Remain shires.

As someone said, he hopes Conservative Remain voters will put Party before Brexit whilst Labour Leave voters put Brexit before Party.
