It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

If BXP candidates stand in Tory-Labour leave voting marginals they split the Tory vote.

There was some recent work looking at the Labour vote in leave-voting constituencies and the conclusion was that Labour voters and leave voters are not the same people.

bellinisurge · 31/10/2019 08:06

@Mistigri , not the case in my solid Labour/solid Leave seat.
I follow the local MP on FB. Judging by the comments he's getting from regular visitors, I would say he is losing a lot of votes over his position.

Mistigri · 31/10/2019 08:06

Yes David Gauke is reasonably sane - but he was in gov voting for cuts to education, services and universal credit......

Yes, he voted for policies I disagree with very strongly.

But at this point I think I'd rather have a sane and competent MP over some random who got his ticket based on his willingness to lick ERG or Momentum arses.

Glad that for me this is all theoretical and I don't have to make that call (no vote and if I had one then in my old constituency it would be for a very good Labour MP).

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 08:06

Can anyone confirm if the Tories are going to run with the Britain Deserves Better?

If they do I dont think its going to go the way they thought

Mistigri · 31/10/2019 08:08

Judging by the comments he's getting from regular visitors,

That might not be a terribly representative sample.

And of course people berating MPs on their Facebook pages did not necessarily vote for them in the last election either.

The Twitter ban on political advertising is only due to come into effect on 22 November.

Expect a flurry of political ads prior to that date - on both sides of the Atlantic.

Mistigri · 31/10/2019 08:09

Britain Deserves Better

Open goal? Classic Dom.

chomalungma · 31/10/2019 08:09

Britain Deserves Better

Obvious attack lines - because we have had Conservative cuts for years. Police, NHS, education, social care, council......

So yes, Britain does deserve better than the Conservatives.

chomalungma · 31/10/2019 08:11

What have the Conservatives ever done for us?

Destroyed our NHS, cut school's budgets, increased GP workload, reduced the number of police on the streets....

So much opportunity for critcising the Conservatives...and then promising what Labour or the Lib Dems will do...

prettybird · 31/10/2019 08:11

....but I'm not sure how Twitter will be able to stop paid people posting tweets in support of their paymaster Confused

Basilpots · 31/10/2019 08:12

Britain Deserves Better

JustAnotherPoster00 · 31/10/2019 08:14

So who's planning on doing an election night all nighter with me?

borntobequiet · 31/10/2019 08:17

The (Leave) papers were comparing Corbyn to the Grinch yesterday, I thought a mistake because in the end the Grinch is quite sympatico.

bellinisurge · 31/10/2019 08:18

Johnson is shite. Corbyn is shite. It's a real beauty pageant, isn't it?Confused

Hoooo · 31/10/2019 08:19

Me!!!

prettybird · 31/10/2019 08:21

As dh says, it's a shame that Britain Deserves Better as a slogan is now out there as they now have time to change it.

It would be a gift if the Conservatives stick with it Halloween Grin

Morning all, the sun is shining here, I can see la belle France from my beach, and we are still in the EU! hoorah! Also, being on the edge of a marsh, there are masses and masses of convenient ditches, probably enough for the whole 17.4m.

It’s October 31st. We’re still in the EU. Boris Johnson isn’t dead in a ditch. Mark Francois hasn’t exploded yet.

You can’t trust the Tories on a word they say.

Britain deserves better is hilarious. Quite telling that didn’t get pulled before it got anywhere near the public.
