It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

I think if you're not already appalled by Boris, there's not a lot else that he could conceivably do that would appall you.

Even Boris can probably go seven weeks without murdering kittens or drop-kicking a toddler.

He might not be able to do so with keeping his dick in his pants or getting embroiled in some scandal but for those who support him at the minute, this won't make much difference.

Still, I'm the mug that thought 2017 would be a walkover for the tories, so hopefully I'm completely wrong on this one too. I'm not convinced though.

PotterHead1985 · 30/10/2019 17:52

@DGRossetti um EH??!? Being against bigotry makes me a bigot?!? Expand on this point please as it makes absolutely no sense to me whatsoever.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 17:53

I dunno clash I reckon if that ‘remain column’ he wrote ever came to light Farage would have some fun. Grin

placemats · 30/10/2019 17:54

John Finucane, son of the murdered Pat Finucane is to stand against Dodds in the forthcoming GE.

Tbf, I don't always (or indeed often) agree with Bear, but I do think she gets a lot of shit on these threads.

I haven't followed them all because life etc., but I think it's important to listen to what others say and not just dismiss it because of who is saying it...and it feels like that is what's happening.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 17:57

Louise is a leaver and a Tory she has not been around lately but she is fine on here too.

ClashCityRocker · 30/10/2019 17:58

The remain column is fairly well known though? That he wrote one for each side.

It's bloody baffling. But people don't seem to care.

placemats · 30/10/2019 17:58

So what have the Conservative Party given to us, the electorate and public, over the last 9 years of power in Government?

One huge issue comes immediately to mind. They gave us a referendum. However, they have so far, failed to deliver Brexit amid in fighting and three changes of PM.

By any stretch of the imagination, that's an appalling record.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 17:59

Still be nice to know what he actually put in it though Clash as it has never been published it’s easier to pretend it doesn’t exist.

Bearbehind · 30/10/2019 17:59

I think it's important to listen to what others say and not just dismiss it because of who is saying it...and it feels like that is what's happening.

Thank you - that’s entirely my point

These threads are an excellent source of information but when it comes to discussing points or having opinions, the reaction depends entirely on who has said it

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 18:04

Placemats equal marriage.

It’s all I’ve got.

And I hope that would have happened whoever’s name was above the door.

prettybird · 30/10/2019 18:06

The SNP MP who is probably most at risk is Stephen Gethins who has a majority of two Shock over the LibDem candidate. Up until 2015 it had been Menzies Campbell's seat (although wehn I was at Uni a gazillion years ago Blush it was a safe Tory seat - hence me going home to vote in East Dunbartonshire) .

There is a story about 2 SNP voters (vets I think), who were kept late at work and only just got to the polling station just before it closed (last ones in) Grin

....found the story

www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/news/local/fife/446447/was-it-the-vet-wot-won-it-north-east-fife-womans-dash-to-the-polls-proves-decisive/ Every vote can count! Grin

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:06

Interesting about John Finucane. He might well do it. Michelle O'Neill said this morning she reached out to Alliance and the SDLP to talk about some of them standing down so that remain parties would be heard better and win more seats...she said they are so far not receptive.

TheMShip · 30/10/2019 18:06

There's been lots of news out there today but it's not been getting posted here, most of it's been bickering.

Eg. There was a brief scare over whether or not the statutory instruments for changing exit day would be enacted (they were).

Sinn Fein are putting up Pat Finucane's son against Nigel Dodds.

Rudd and Livington both stepping down.

ClashCityRocker · 30/10/2019 18:06

Oh man, if led by donkeys could get their hands on that!

But would it be dismissed as 'fake news?'

TheMShip · 30/10/2019 18:08

Ah, I see the Finucane story did get mentioned.

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:09

They're dreadful, Placemats....yet STILL people are convinced they are the party to get things done ffs. I'd love to know what they're smoking.

howabout · 30/10/2019 18:10

He won't deliver a no deal Brexit, because he is a Remainer at heart.
This is a very bad attack line. It is the narrative which will persuade Tory Remainers in London not to defect to the Tory-lite Remain LibDems. It also helps with the "anything to prevent Corbyn" narrative.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 18:10

Two votes I hope it was a small constituency with a tiny turnout. Smile

ListeningQuietly · 30/10/2019 18:11

(a) What is with all the deleted posts today ?

(b) I was working in the land of Desmond Swayne today.
Tomorrow i will be in the land of Caroline Lucas

Anybody who thinks the Tories will be wiped out next month
or that the country regrets Brexit
needs to get out more

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:19

I just hope the people in NI who voted Leave regret it and send the DUP packing!

FadingStar · 30/10/2019 18:21

Having said that, my colleague today was very excited that reunification might happen in her lifetime. That is her priority.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 18:22

^NEW: The Brexit party is considering pulling out of hundreds of seats in what would be a game-changer for Boris Johnson's hopes of winning #ge2019.

The party is expected to announce its strategy on Friday.^ Sebastian Payne.

Heard rumblings of this earlier.

Sensible move from Farage if he actually wants Brexit to happen.

Anna Soubry (IGC, Broxtowe) will be standing for re-election in her constituency at the forthcoming General Election.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 18:25

Nigel Farage himself is undecided on whether he will stand in the election. The Brexit party leader has told friends he might prefer instead to be a national campaigner, instead of being locked in one constituency.

Longtime ally @Arron_banks has urged Farage to take a "strategic view" about running candidates in every constituency:

"If Nigel takes a tactical, pragmatic approach on where to run to help deliver Brexit he’ll be rewarded by voters."
