It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

I find your comment incredibly hurtful Cendrillion

You obviously have no idea what it's like to live with a child who has disabilities. You obviously have no idea what it's like to be on Universal Credit. You obviously have no idea what it's like to be working and going to a food bank.

You obviously have no idea of the reality of every day to day living.

But grin away. It's obvious that human suffering is a huge joke to you.

DGRossetti · 30/10/2019 16:34

Put bluntly, if the Conservatives actually had to rely on their membership, instead of the Daily Mail and FB ads, they would be fucked.

Does anyone recall "The New Statesman" episode where Alan B'Stard MP paid for a fake report showing North Sea Oil was running out as part of a clever bluff to get the Tories re-elected after Labour shat themselves at the thought of having to take power with no money ?

I vague wonder if Boris saw that and thought he'd save the Tories by throwing the 2019 election without actually reversing over someone in a wheelchair ?

Boris Johnson isn't out of the woods yet. It's a precarious position for the PM to be in. If he's moved to a safer seat, this will be counter productive.

Interesting times we live in.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 16:36

Doesn’t take much to keep some oldies in.

My parents avoid going out when it’s cold/wet/slippery underfoot.

I am entrusted with newspaper purchasing.

It’s amazing how often the DM can sell out in the local paper shop......

Fortunately there is always a good supply of The Independent. (did try the Guardian but that was pushing the envelope a little too far Grin)

derxa · 30/10/2019 16:41

but I suspect that there will be a few that will cling on - at the very least Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale, which was location for the lonely Scottish Tory MP for many a GE Good old Fluffy

DGRossetti · 30/10/2019 16:44

I can't remember who now, but there was a comedian that bought all his local newsagents copies of the Daily Mail just to bin them. Maybe another MNetter saw it ?

When do MPs have to declare which constituency they want to represent ? Wondering about Boris and Farage ? The opposition can go to town on Boris for being 'chicken' if he changes which seat he seeks to represent.

Except that I obviously didn't say anything of the sort. I was poking fun at Just's rather ridiculous paranoia about the media, rather than making any comment on your personal circumstances. Strange how anything goes when it comes to anti-Boris, anti-Tory, anti-right-of-centre, anti-Leave comments on here, but the opposite is simply not allowed...

I wonder if Alister Jack will cling on.

Icantreachthepretzels · 30/10/2019 17:00

The opposition can go to town on Boris for being 'chicken' if he changes which seat he seeks to represent.

He may yet live to regret his recent overuse of the word 'frit'

Karma can be a total biatch Grin

ArseDarkly · 30/10/2019 17:03

If anyone was ever overdue a great big karmic bite on the bum it's Bozo

DadDadDad · 30/10/2019 17:06

I'm no fan of Boris, but if he did get moved to a safe seat, I think the party could probably spin it - have the party chairman talk about how no-one wants the Conservative party to have yet another leadership election, how we are delighted that North Toryshire has welcomed Boris as their parliamentary candidate, and this means Boris can focus on campaigning to the country knowing that his constituency is fully supportive and happy to have him as MP...

prettybird · 30/10/2019 17:11

They can spin it anyway they like but it will still mean that he's frit of losing his seat in Uxbridge Grin

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 17:11

Beaconsfield has no Conservative candidate yet according to Dominic Grieve.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 17:12

Does smack of wimping out on Johnson’s part though.

ArseDarkly · 30/10/2019 17:13

Sure, they'll be able to spin some of the voters all of the time - but will there be enough for a win or will the slow drip of negative stories around Bozo gradually penetrate the illusion?

I’m sure you lot have already seen this but in light of the many conversations we have had on here re housing it’s worth a watch so we can gauge the attitude of some of those in charge of social housing and their attitudes to tenants.

And of course the shortfalls that led to Grenfell.

prettybird · 30/10/2019 17:19

derxa - it would be lovely if Alister Jack did lose his seat - his majority is "only" 5,500 versus Fluffy's majority of 9,500. Grin

....so if, nightmare of nightmares, BJ does get back in but only has one Scottish Tory left again - he's have to ask the loyal guy he sacked Grin (and even if he's in Opposition, he'd have to give him the role of Shadow Scottish Secretary Wink).

But I'm not going to count any chickens Shock

Ellie56 · 30/10/2019 17:20

Imagine the tantrum that would ensue if Uxbridge rose up and voted the filthy piece of tow rag out. Grin Grin

Cedrillon

What gives you the right to think these are my personal circumstances? Your reply says it all.

Take a reality check and whilst you're at it think before you post.

DadDadDad · 30/10/2019 17:22

Can anything pierce the illusion for those who love Boris? He's a bit like Trump in that those who don't support him have long ago assessed him as untrustworthy, while those who support him, just think "we love Boris despite his flaws - and most of those 'flaws' are probably just fake news anyway." So the only people who will see a safe seat switch as an act of cowardice will be those who already doubt Boris's character.

placemats · 30/10/2019 17:25

I cannot be convinced that a spin on getting Johnson a safe seat could negate the cries of 'coward'.

Loved Jess Phillips' moving tribute to Bercow with the added bonus of a pointed, and well justified, dig at Johnson.

derxa · 30/10/2019 17:26

....so if, nightmare of nightmares, BJ does get back in but only has one Scottish Tory left again - he's have to ask the loyal guy he sacked grin (and even if he's in Opposition, he'd have to give him the role of Shadow Scottish Secretary Exactly Alister Jack has something of the night about him
