It looks like a December General Election is on.

The EU have officially extended A50 until 31st January. We have to name an EU Commissioner though.

All that seems left to do is decide between the 9th and 12th December.

The difference between the two is about whether there is any possibility that the WAB can be passed before Parliament dissolves.

A pre-brexit GE is thought to favour the LDs at the expense of Labour and the Conservatives. What the Brexit Party decide to do and where they decide to stand will also be crucial.

Well, one thing that sticks in my memory is him telling everyone assembled that the jewish settlements "should be nuked".

MockersthefeMANist · 30/10/2019 15:43

In the (very near) future, every kipper will be UKIP leader for fifteen minutes.

He should have been reported if he wasnt and under Jenny's new rules he'd rightfully be out on his ass

Hoooo so he was talking (rabidly!) about Israeli government policy? I'm assuming that from the use of the word 'settlements'?

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 30/10/2019 15:50

I had someone claiming to be Labour explain to me how the 6 day war proved that the Jews didn't try hard enough and it was their fault Hitler got as far as he did. I'd like to think the claim was false, but our local party are honest that there are party members who think that way and have been very hot on reporting it as they don't want people thinking they think that way.

RHTawneyonabus · 30/10/2019 15:51

Was just thinking a full blown flu crisis in Dec with A&Es falling over will not be a good look for the Torys. I hope to god that doesn’t happen of course.

Equally bad time weather wise so Likely to put off rural and elderly voters driving through the rain/snow/dark to get to the polling station.

Hoooo · 30/10/2019 15:53

In the same conversation he made a comment about his next LLP meeting being his last one? But I know he is still involved at local level.
He is the one who tried to get me to stand for labour in the local may elections!! Grin

Hoooo · 30/10/2019 15:54

He doesn't have much time for any religious group, to be fair.

He is VERY keen on the re-nationalisation of the railways.

Hoooo · 30/10/2019 15:59

I have no idea if he was reported just

I think pp have made very valid points wrt the double standards about racism in the main 2 parties.

The tories are well known to be home to plenty of racists, misogynistic xenophobes and its arguable that labour are held to higher standards by the populace.

Basilpots · 30/10/2019 16:05

I also have very little time for the Home Offices repeated incursions (or should that be excursions hmm) into illegality. Does that make me an anti-Britite ?

No just a human with compassion for others.

DGRossetti · 30/10/2019 16:06

I had someone claiming to be Labour explain to me how the 6 day war proved that the Jews didn't try hard enough and it was their fault Hitler got as far as he did.

Now that does sound particularly unpleasant although more akin to my impression of someone who doesn't like Jews, since "semite" include muslims as well.

HeyNotInMyName · 30/10/2019 16:07

JustAnotherPoster00, I think it will be just a tiny bit too early for an NHS crisis to appear. Too early in the winter (and therefore easier to ignore). In January or february though it would have been a different matter.

Apparently weather won’t be an issue for older voters - more robust evidently. They can also vote at any time during the eight hours of daylight that day.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 30/10/2019 16:13

It's hard to get the venom and emphasis across in writing dg it was part of a diatribe but that nonsense struck me most. And was also the point I exited stage left for an emergency loo break and try to get my head around what I was hearing

placemats · 30/10/2019 16:14

Interesting analysis from Ian Dunt on Election 2019.

Alsohuman · 30/10/2019 16:14

Unlike the Tories who will be fighting truth @CendrillonSings.

OhLookHeKickedTheBall · 30/10/2019 16:15

I realise that looked like I was arguing with you there dg. That's not what I was going for at all 🤦‍♀️

DGRossetti · 30/10/2019 16:16

I must admit, I was fascinated to learn of the plans should the Met Office issue a weather warning "not to travel" between December 11 and 13.

Moanranger · 30/10/2019 16:16

I live on South Coast in a desperately true blue Tory/ BXP world, average age about 103, Range Rover driving, stock market investing world. I thought there would be no point in tactical voting. Get Voting, however, suggests LD do have a chance.
They could be deluded, but on the other hand, the last elections turned the solidly Tory council into no overall control, LDs being largest single party. Lots are fed up with local Tory hegemony, lots of mis-management & mis-guided priorities.
It’s not just Brexit which might lead to more of a “throw the bastards out” response.

Well, the flu season is projected to be bad this year and that's rarely good for the over 65's which are the Conservative's strongest group voter intentions [[https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-politics-47909281/conservative-and-labour-support-by-young-and-old-voters]]

According to the Group's analysis: [[https://www.bowgroup.org/policy/statement-average-age-and-analysis-conservative-party-membership-2019]], the Conservatives have under 100,000 active members with an average age range between 65 - 75. A lot of the local associations are "on-paper" only. Put bluntly, if the Conservatives actually had to rely on their membership, instead of the Daily Mail and FB ads, they would be fucked.

DGRossetti · 30/10/2019 16:29

I grew up in Harrow (West) which appeared to be as blue as they come, but went Labour in 1997 ...
