Wonder who will attend the TV debates? Farage is very good. Corbyn is useless

mummmy2017 · 29/10/2019 21:42

When you vote, you personally put your vote in a locked box.
The boxes are unlocked and you and your group count the box.
This is checked with how many should be in the box.
Votes are stacked in plane view about 50 people who are not counting can see these voting papers.
Then once all votes are counted. Next stage.
Count each box into who the votes are for.
Check figures add up.
This is the point the spoils are checked and is there anyway this vote can be counted?
You have no pens, no rubbers, the tally counters have the pens.
Now they split the lot into same thing.
We count 100s... Check numbers correct.
Next stage.
They get sorted into 1000s. Numbers checked, get stacked Into trays, on table in plane view.
If the count is off by even 1. You go back through till the paper is found.

Quite funny, but also quite scary...

Tory vs Labour:

DustyDiamond · 29/10/2019 21:48

I'd love to go to a count mummmy!

BelleHathor · 29/10/2019 21:49

This election may be won and lost on social media 🤔

Epicwaffle · 29/10/2019 21:59

@mummmy2017, fair enough, all I can say is what I saw. That’s it, no idea how it was able to happen, but it was there, live on tv, clear as day, until the cameraman quickly panned away, Obviously I have no idea what votes she was rubbing out, could have been either side tbh! I was really really shocked, then to see other videos of similar behaviour elsewhere the next day was pretty shocking too.

It was the ref though, not a GE. Were there any key differences that could have somehow allowed it to happen?

This ‘woman’ was young. Definitely student age, probably around 18-19. Was there are larger than normal student quotient counting in the ref? Could any ‘pocketed’ rubbers/pencils have slipped through the net? It was a huge hall, with many many counting tables. Obviously a very large counting area.

Listen, we can split hairs on this all day, and I don’t want it to turn into a massive thread derail, all I am saying is, bring a pen folks, just to be safe WinkSmile 🖊

Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/10/2019 22:24

I love that twitter link Dusty,
especially where it said "One takes the task very seriously and the other cannot count" LOL so true!
and " The other dropped out of school at 16 and it shows" 😂😂🤣🤣😅

mummmy2017 · 29/10/2019 23:05

If you want to do one, call your council and ask for the job. They pay about £100 ish for the night, or you can do a poll station.
We just had to do Brexit. So glad we did.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 29/10/2019 23:16

The other dropped out of school at 16 and it shows

Worked as a care worker and trained as a social working after leaving school at 16 to have a baby

Education is the main reason I’ll never vote tory again

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 29/10/2019 23:17

Apart from that...

It was a funny thread Smile

Walkingdeadfangirl · 29/10/2019 23:24

Rufus
yes, it was just a humorous thread, tongue in cheek.

DustyDiamond · 29/10/2019 23:25

They pay about £100 ish for the night

😮😮

DustyDiamond · 29/10/2019 23:35

To be fair to Angela Raynor, she gets on my nerves sometimes but she's some woman.
I've a lot of respect for what she's achieved.

Same with Diane Abbott - winds me right up & I think she's been promoted beyond her abilities (just like Corbyn & various folk across other parties) - but she's been a trailblazer in many ways.

mummmy2017 · 29/10/2019 23:36

We loved doing it,quiet exciting, to be in there seeing it all happen.

Parker231 · 30/10/2019 07:10

Next few weeks are only to be electioneering dawn to dusk with non stop tv coverage from MP’s promising everything which obviously can’t be funded or deliverable. Thank goodness I’m working in Singapore election week so some escape from the stupidity.

Epicwaffle · 30/10/2019 07:58

Yeah, what fun eh parker?! Grin

Still, for now, I’m glad to have something useful happening, even if it means 6 weeks of campaign bollocks.

Epicwaffle · 30/10/2019 07:59

I never seem to get canvassers at my door, but I am secretly hoping for a labour one, so I can tell them what I think. Grin

Hollycatberry · 30/10/2019 08:21

I rarely get canvassers either. Am in Labour safe seat which is annoying as he barely campaigns because there is no threat to his seat.

I think this is the biggest concern re the GE. Will enough voters change the habit of a lifetime and vote differently? Alot of people might disagree with their MPs brexit stance but still vote for them as they are a good constituency MP. Going to be very interesting.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 30/10/2019 09:12

We only get lib dem canvassing at the door

The tories hang out near the coffee shops in the village....so did ukip

Lib dem are more than 32 thousand votes away from the tories here so i always admire their optimism...or stubbornness or something Grin

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 30/10/2019 10:24

We only get tories & libdems here.
I can’t wait to tell the libdems that I voted leave so they can stick my vote up their arse.
And I’m sure that’ll be one of the politer responses they get.

DustyDiamond · 30/10/2019 10:37

We don't get anyone usually

I too am hoping they'll be out this time so I can berate them

On women, and on Brexit

Hollycatberry · 30/10/2019 10:45

I read something on Twitter about the SNP pouring money into the campaign to unseat Jo Swinson in East Dunbartonshire. Might be one to watch. She has a 6k majority but if the labour candidate stood aside as part of a pact (they had 7k votes) it could get very interesting. Unless they change her seat to somewhere safer?

howabout · 30/10/2019 11:00

I think there is every chance Jo Swinson will lose her seat.
The Labour Party candidate won't need to step aside as the Labour vote in Scotland has collapsed since 2017. I suspect there will also be defections from the LibDems to the SNP on the Left. Jo standing front and centre of the UK wide campaign may encourage would be Tories to vote tactically for her (7k in 2017) but otoh will cause SNP defections and galvanise SNP turnout.

However, East Dunbartonshire is full of voters who prioritise education over everything else (core LibDem) and the SNP are getting a lot of flack on this.

All to play for.

howabout · 30/10/2019 11:03

Laura K:
"Also whatever rumours, I understand that Bercow’s last day in the Speaker’s Chair will definitely be tomorrow and he will not be seen there again!"

Hurray! Is it too early for Wine
