“I don’t care how long the process takes so long as the deal is improved. Boris’s deal is worse than May’s and nothing like as good as we enjoy now.”

Would this not require more negotiating with the EU though? Surely the amendments of the bill can only go so far without their tacit approval?
I really really can’t see the EU re-opening negotiations on the deal?

Unless I have spectacularly missed your point. Sorry if I have.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 16:49

And @HateIsNotGood. You win yay! StarGrin

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 23/10/2019 16:52

If they can make life and death decisions they can surely vote

At 16 ds1 agreed to an operation that was not discussed, it was lucky that he had also agreed that his father and i could stay in the room Grin

Is any amendment that seeks to alter the agreement a wrecking amendment?

That seeks to alter the legal text, yes.

That seeks to alter the PD, not so much.

Customs Union, 2nd ref, reintroduction of backstop - absolutely these are wrecking amendments

MeganBacon · 23/10/2019 16:55

yes there will be common sense amendments and so there should be but it is very much not in labour’s interests to allow Boris a successful brexit and recent history has shown us that Jc will sacrifice his brexit beliefs in order to achieve power. So his primary objective must be to delay until some act of God turns public opinion in his favour and to prevent the Boris making progress. It’s very naive to look at recent behaviour and conclude there could be any other motive. Of course the best lies are the ones that masquerade as truth so it would be helpful to have some common sense amendments in there.

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 16:55

Boris’s deal is worse than May’s

I think it's better 🤷🏻‍♀️

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 16:57

I agreed to surgery just as I turned 16. But the reason I was having that surgery at all, was as a direct result of my lack of maturity and insight due to my young age. (Obviously not the same as your DCs but an anecdotal point worth making nevertheless.)

Mistigri · 23/10/2019 16:57

Surely the amendments of the bill can only go so far without their tacit approval?

There are a number of things in the bill that are not to relevant to the withdrawal agreement, and the presence of which is irrelevant to ratifying the deal, for eg the language seeking to tie the hands of the negotiators of a future FTA.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:00

I have to say, I am very disappointed at the lack of takers for my previously proposed pub dart board. Grin

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 17:02

Anything to do with Cameron & his pig love makes me laugh Epic - the memes & gifs at the time it all came out where brilliant!

bellinisurge · 23/10/2019 17:04

The whole thing about children agreeing to medical intervention relates to whether they are deemed Gillick competent. This refers back to an old case where Victoria Gillick attempted to get a block on her teenage daughter getting the pill without her agreement.

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:04

Grin 🐷

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:06

Sorry, lowered the tone there folks!

🐽 “snort”
Grin

As you were...

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:09

“I think it's better 🤷🏻‍♀️“

Me too dusty, not perfect, but good enough for me. We all have to be prepared to compromise somewhere. That said, if this still all ended up with a no deal, I wouldn’t cry into my beer. 🍺

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:12

And I also agree, that there is probably a higher than 95% likelihood that any amendments tabled, would be for the express purpose of blocking/wrecking/stymie-ing. (Insert appropriate obfuscation synonym here.) Wink

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 17:12

😂😂😂

Veteran interview wrecker & consummate loudmouth Steve Bray was being interviewed when someone else lost their fucking mind 😂😂😂😂

The country is going stir crazy!

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:16

OMFG. Amazing!

I proper Lol’d at that Steve Bray interview Dusty. It could have only been surpassed if the guy had used a megaphone. GrinGrinGrin

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 17:16

I would like this WA to pass, unamended, to unlock the next stage so that we can work towards the future with as little disruption as possible

Talk of customs unions, rights, 2nd refs etc are for the birds now

If it fails to pass or gets wrecked then I'll become more hardened in favour of no deal

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 17:17

Steve Bray is a proper tit

howabout · 23/10/2019 17:17

Misti Gillick competence is a case by case assessment dependent on the individual and the procedure. Therefore not quite the same as the presumption at 16.

Sorry for my pedantry, but it's a MN bugbear of mine. Blush

I think we broadly agree on what would wreck the Bill. Brew

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2019 17:25

Votes at 16? Why not votes at 15, they can also pay income tax?
I am against it, I do not see why people are so keen to force children to become adults when they are still so young. We do not allow children to smoke or drink until they are old enough, it should be the same for voting. I would hate to see electioneering brought into schools.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 23/10/2019 17:37

Its guaranteed remainers will move heaven and earth to rip up 17.4 votes to avoid leaving the EU. Therefor a 2 week extension is pointless because we would just need another longer one straight after it.

All this nonsense about 'improving' the bill is just excuses. Either Corbyn wins a GE and can negotiate his own deal or Boris wins and removes any 'improvements' Labour added.

3 months and a GE is the only solution otherwise we are just kicking the can down the road to do this all over again in January. Corbyn just needs to grow up and let us have the election. Power has corrupted him, he is only interested in getting more power now.

Parker231 · 23/10/2019 17:41

I want all MP’s to either revoke or at least get a decent deal and not the one currently on the table. Proud to be a remainer!

Epicwaffle · 23/10/2019 17:47

I don’t think the deal is going to get any better. I just can’t see how it would or could. I totally respect and appreciate that you are a proud remainer, it’s totally your perogative. I 100% disagree with you on revoke, but I understand and respect why you feel that way. 🍻

DustyDiamond · 23/10/2019 17:50

Proud to be a remainer!

As is your right 🍷
