Brexit Arms - Pop Up

Well I’m going to have a crack at this Landlady business and I’ve opened a pop up pubSmile.

Rules are:
Anything brexit related is up for discussion and even not Brexit related if you feel the need (so if you want to discuss Haemoroids that’s ok too Wink).

I’m ok with a bit of arseyness (it’s an emotive subject) but if you go full monty in here I reserve the right to withhold all alcoholic beverages.

I have reserved a quiet table for MNHQ if they want to pop in for a quiet drink (Happy Hour is 6-7pmSmile).

Haven’t properly caught up yet with today’s Brexit news yet but looks like we are finally facing end game, that said still plenty of days left for high jinks and holidays.

Anyone have any views on how they think the next few days will play out are welcome to voice here.

First drinks are on the house WineWine 🍻 Cheers

@NoWordForFluffy , I get it. I really do. But I am not a Meatloaf Anti-No Dealer. I will do anything to avoid No Deal at this point. Options for a perfect Brexit or for Revoke, ran out a while ago.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:15

I can't see a deal even being agreed though. Or if it is, it getting through Parliament. So it doesn't matter what 'we' would do to avoid no deal, it's what MPs will vote for. And I can't see that it has the numbers.

bellinisurge · 16/10/2019 07:20

@NoWordForFluffy , we'll have to see. I am also sceptical about numbers. I'm also sceptical about there being any kind of deal. But I'm hoping for some sort of "best" while preparing for the worst.

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:21

That's been my tactic since March!

frumpety · 16/10/2019 07:23

I think the DUP might begrudgingly support the border in the Irish sea , there are other things that are important to them and their wish to be exactly like the UK only extends so far. Any word from Arlene ?

NoWordForFluffy · 16/10/2019 07:25

Yesterday she said no to the border in the sea! Other than that I've not seen anything more recent.

There'll be some light relief watching the pub dwellers here squirm to support something they rejected because a scuzzy "charismatic " posh boy telling them it's ok is better than a mere woman telling them it's ok.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 16/10/2019 07:32

As a remainer, you should be more concerned about some of your friends suffering mental health issues over brexit, rather than hanging around this thread laughing at leavers.

Takes all sorts though.

Burpsandrustles · 16/10/2019 07:35

Bellinge thank you for your kind sentiments Hmm

I don't think you understand what leavers are up agaisnt.

Right now I have zero faith in our Hoc and I don't trust them so right now I just want to get out abd leave. So it's a fait accompli.

The luxury of leisurely picking and choosing best deals for anyone have been robbed from us by non democratic mps and we are in a desperate scramble situation.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 16/10/2019 07:42

Still squabbling I see Hmm

bellinisurge · 16/10/2019 07:47

I don't give a shit what Leavers imagine they are up against. I just want to protect GFA.

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 16/10/2019 07:52

We know.
You’re on every brexit thread known to man saying that.

Just wish you’d take a break from this thread. Your constant sarcastic comments are just boring now.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 16/10/2019 07:56

Gosh yes, how awful that bellinisurge and I and others like us give a shit about the GFA. Altruism is going to destroy society Hmm

dirtyrottenscoundrel · 16/10/2019 08:00

You can give a shit about it without coming on this thread, in fact, you can give the biggest shit in the world without being on the internet at all.

time4chocolate · 16/10/2019 08:01

It’s so interesting on here how the Leave posters are often male - but reject logical thought progression
Confused

We ha e free speech. For now anyway.

frumpety · 16/10/2019 08:40

Exactly the same things remainers are up against, we are after all in this together, come hell or high water. We disagree with the best solution to the problem that is Brexit, as do MP's, so fairly representative of the UK population. Government and Parliament is supposed to act in the best interests of the population, lets see how they do, in the next couple of weeks. Smile

54321go · 16/10/2019 08:46

simple really. they have to come to terms with the fact they have voted for a load of lies which can never be bear fruition and the benefits that was promises, and all wrapped up with a huge price tag for the money wasted. many times the amount the UK pays into the EU.

ContinuityError · 16/10/2019 08:50

Wrt to the DUP: there are other things that are important to them

Like the size of the forthcoming bung perhaps?

ContinuityError · 16/10/2019 08:59

many times the amount the UK pays into the EU

Johnson’s plan bring costed at £16bn hit to public finances per year as best case scenario - could be as high as £49bn.

But hey - what price “freedom”? Hmm

DustyDiamond · 16/10/2019 09:17

I thought I was a hated Remoaner in this pub.

Frustrating at times? Yes!

Hated? No!!!

There'll be some light relief watching the pub dwellers here squirm to support something they rejected because a scuzzy "charismatic " posh boy telling them it's ok is better than a mere woman telling them it's ok.

Not at all - you're applying remainer logic & viewing leavers through a remainer 'leaver-stereotype' prism.

People are not stupid, I know that it is WA or no Brexit. I accept that NI has become a sticking point & needs to be resolved (largely because of the sequencing mistake). I accept that the ref was not a landslide so compromise was necessary.

I'm happier with a sea border than an all UK backstop (I was only reluctantly ok with TM's WA).

It’s so interesting on here how the Leave posters are often male - but reject logical thought progression.

🤔🙄

So you believe in the 'Male brain' then?

I know it's used as a slang in E-S theory, but it's an inaccurate & reductive representation.

Tbh your pronouncements on 'bonfire of workers rights!' is a pretty emotion-driven stance, lacking in logic - presumably that is you 'just being female' according to your pronouncements?

DustyDiamond · 16/10/2019 09:22

But hey - what price “freedom”? Hmm

Freedom cannot be measured in monetary terms. Freedom is invaluable.

Must things be fiscally measurable for them to have value?

Jason118 · 16/10/2019 09:32

It's pretty obvious that personal freedom (i.e tangible things rather than just feelz for some) will be reduced after Brexit. Clever how it's been done and also shameful that so many fell for it.

ContinuityError · 16/10/2019 09:32

Well, duh, you need money to pay for the social good.

And I’m perfectly free as it is - in fact I’ll be less free when the UK leaves the EU.

frumpety · 16/10/2019 09:34

The problem is that this perceived Freedom will only be felt by those who felt it was lacking in the first place. So a fifth of the population. Any fiscal downsides of achieving that freedom will be felt by the majority of the population. Is it really in the best interests of the whole of the UK to allow that perception, that non tangible, immeasurable feeling dictate the tangible, measurable outcomes for the rest ?
