Wine Brew Gin Glitterball Wine Brew Gin

Hello! Shall we try to do this? A place where Leavers and Remainers come in peace and attempt to find a way forward where we drink lager & sancerre and chianti and think of what unites instead of what divides? Terribly idealistic? How about showing our best side?

@lljkk, you do not have fury against technology? Never? not even when th'interweb goes down for no reason and you have to switch off the router and then count to ten, do a dance and switch it on again? And nothing happens for no reason? Or when suddenly you have been hacked and some wild pop up opens up on your screen .... but YES cats... and... Idris Elba? Do we all agree on Idris Elba? I may make him Prime Minister. He'd look fetching in the Commons.

What a good idea.

Mine’s an espresso martini 🍸

We’ve all got to find a way through as a country. This cannot be something that causes a long lasting divide.

Mostly because it’s bloody stupidity all round. I don’t think there is a single person in government or politics that I have any respect left for.

BelleSausage · 04/10/2019 21:36

Also, everyone like fondant fancies. Fact.

QueerVictoria · 04/10/2019 21:36

@Bearbehind welcome! Please have a drink on the house and help me to achieve the impossible... a Brexit thread with our a fight in the first 50 posts.

ForeverFaff, thank you for your kind words! it's never too easy for Eggnog! Any favourite type?

CactusAndCacti there you go, full fat coke and a quiet table in the corner. There you can listen up but nobody is going to bother you. I promise.

blubberyboo - there you go, non-smuggled (for now) Bushmill whiskey!

Suggestions for reconciliation:

  • cats
  • Idris Elba
  • G&T
  • chianti *more Idris Elba

Here's an Espresso Martini for Belle Sausage, served by general Gordon on a camel! We like to be a bit over the top at the Reconciliation Cafe! :)

Mockers I thought the moonrakers had hidden smuggled cases of whisky in a pond and were using rakes to get it out. A policeman appeared and asked them what they were doing.
They replied that they’d seen a big cheese (the reflection of the moon) in the pond and were trying to get it.
The policeman thought they were excessively stupid and left them to it.

Bodoni · 04/10/2019 21:42

I had a Leaver friend to stay recently. We stayed off Brexit but could agree the Normans were a bad thing (grabbing and looting and violence) and the Anglo-Saxons had a reasonable society going with moots and education for women, which was destroyed by the Normans. I don’t care if this is historically inaccurate, it’s a good theme to unite on. Cup of tea please, milk, no sugar. Thanks.

CactusAndCacti · 04/10/2019 21:44

I think our first fight might be over Fondant Fancies. Firstly they are vile, but I am well aware that there is a hierarchy of flavours and a fight will soon occur once someone realises their favourite one is gone.

I shall return now to my corner having started the fight.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2019 21:47

I don’t like cats, fondant fancies, chianti or G&T

Idris Elba however.....

TipseyTorvey · 04/10/2019 21:50

May I have another espresso martini like bellesausage please? I am a very tired remainer but I'd love for us all to find some way forward. I'm so tired of the hatred.

MonnaLiza · 04/10/2019 21:51

How about BRITPOP? And Gladstone & Disraeli?

I am attempting another list (working draft):

  • cats
  • Idris Elba
  • G&T
  • Chianti *more Idris Elba
  • optional fondant fancies *Britpop *Gladstone & Disraeli
  • Moonrakers *NHS *Wallace & Gromit
  • Roman Britain & Anglo-Saxons *Chocolate eclairs
DarkAtEndOfUk · 04/10/2019 21:52

Good project, shame it's limited to Mumsnet. Are we allowed to ask each other questions, or is it limited to non-political?

I'd like to ask @Imnotthrowingawaymyshot in what ways she/they/whatever thinks Italy's collapse is different to ours, and also to explain how she thinks the far right is gaining control of the EU but not the UK.

DarkAtEndOfUk · 04/10/2019 21:52

I don't say that in the spirit of finding a fight, I'm genuinely curious about that perspective.

lljkk · 04/10/2019 21:56

It's against my culture to moan. I feel repulsed by the "Let's all moan about something!" threads on MN. I had to google to find out what Idris Elba looks like. I've heard the name before but don't recognise him. Fairly pretty. Has seal of approval.

Foxgloves? Who could have a quarrel with foxgloves?

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/10/2019 21:57

Everybody loves Judy Dench.

Mine's a cava.

ifonly4 · 04/10/2019 21:59

Having spent the afternoon drinking wine with a friend (I've never done that in 50 years and am now sober) and who I suspect voted differently to me from our conversation on Brexit, first I want to add friendship to the list, then respect and WINE of course.

bellinisurge · 04/10/2019 21:59

I've never had an expresso martini. Maybe I'll try one thanks to suggestions on this thread.

QueerVictoria · 04/10/2019 22:00

@DarkAtEndOfUk I do not want to stop anyone doing anything (obviously) but I would suggest we try to create a consensus on some things/ideals and then we establish some trust we work towards our differences? I am very aware people are angry/scared/worried. I am too. But I am so tired of the hatred, like TipseyTorvey - I want to find a way forward.

That's great you agree with Idris Elba Bearbehind - that gives me something to work on (ooer missus).

oooh - I was just going to ask for a glass of Red Wine, but I see you're doing cocktails too, so a Pisco Sour would be nice - also partial to strong coffee, cold water and tea - depending on mood, place and time.

Songsofexperience · 04/10/2019 22:07

I'd love to add theatre.
Nothing like going to see a good performance with friends. I don't go as often as I'd like anymore but last summer's Midsummer Night's Dream at the Bridge theatre in London cheered me right up.

Bearbehind · 04/10/2019 22:07

Outside of Brexit I’m sure we’d all have loads in common.

But bridging the Brexit gap has become impossible.

The lack of reasoning and rationale from Leavers has alienated the rest of us.

The fact they genuinely believe they've explained how the benefits of leaving outweigh the consequences is mind blowing.

And the fact that, no matter what bullshit stunt BJ pulls, most Leavers insist this was always what they wanted, means there’s very little scope for reconciliation now.
