Wine Brew Gin Glitterball Wine Brew Gin

Hello! Shall we try to do this? A place where Leavers and Remainers come in peace and attempt to find a way forward where we drink lager & sancerre and chianti and think of what unites instead of what divides? Terribly idealistic? How about showing our best side?

crab pull up a chair, have a glass or a few, there's a log fire burning to keep us warm and lots of snuggly creatures and blankets too.

And the sea, harbours and beaches.
We are an island after all...

DarkAtEndOfUk · 04/10/2019 23:06

The seas are great, the amount of standing water around now less so. Bloody British weather, what would we do without it.

HateIsNotGood · 04/10/2019 23:16

Yes the seas - they are a constant - in all my travels I haven't lived far from a sea or ocean. I have often thought it must be different to be 'landlocked'- maybe lakes, rivers and mountains make up for it, but for me, it would be a difficult 'concept' to be too far from a sea.

BlackeyedGruesome · 04/10/2019 23:54

great idea op.

can I suggest both sides of voters want the NHS to work well.
both sides want the best for their country
both sides want jobs and enough money to not worry and enjoy themselves.
perhaps we could reunite around the common enemy of climate change? like siblings who fight but woe betide anyone who tries to fight one of them.

Danetobe · 05/10/2019 06:39

I cant think of any common values but will follow with interest and hope that someone can. Do you serve Almdudler? If so, I'll have one of them.

frumpety · 05/10/2019 08:07

Can we have a thing we can unite against ? chin hairs , you know the ones , where it feels like the teeniest of tiny hairs, you go to bed and wake in the morning to find it has unfurled itself in the night and is now at least a foot long, luxuriant and with all the strength of tensile steel. Every time you go at it with tweezers you simply end up curling it like ribbon on a present. Or is that just me ?

Mines a strong coffee please Smile

bellinisurge · 05/10/2019 08:57

@frumpety , everyone talks about spider spun silk being the strongest fibre on earth. I'm with you on this😂

lonelyplanetmum · 05/10/2019 08:57

Yes the secret unspoken arrival of chin hairs is a brilliant unifier.

Surely we can all also agree that any new trading relationships should be achieved fairly and squarely. The standards and quality of food and goods under any new relationship should be transparent, and the trading arrangements should have clear tangible benefits in the best interests of the whole U.K. economy too?

Mine's anything with elderflower in it.

Imnotthrowingawaymyshot · 05/10/2019 09:25

Yes frumpy I'll unite with you on chin hairs.

I've always understood Remainers angst because I fully availed myself of both sides of the argument. I could argue equally for remain (less so now of course) as leave.

It's why I never understood the angst over Boris doing the same. It's what debaters do.

Weigh up both sides. So when Remainers keep throwing... What's good about leaving.. I feel alot of frustration.

It's all out there the massive issues with the eu, the lack of care, the corruption, the stinking filthy attitudes of its leaders, the collapsing financial core, Italy, banks, Merkel. The shoddy standards all over because the eu cannot carry out checks with teeth because its not interested.
The threat of creating an empire. The impasse it finds itself in because of its aims and the issue that presently its not an empire
The way it dealt with refugees.
The way it dealt with gun issues, trafficking issues. All rubbish.

It's all out there in greater detail how can supposedly intelligent people be saying... With all the enthusiasm of soggy lettuce..

Oh but why would anyone want to leave.

And people try and say it was leavers who googled 'what is the eu'!! The day after the vote.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 05/10/2019 09:33

I thought this was a place to unite not divide with incoherent drivel? @Imnotthrowingawaymyshot why don't you start your own thread on what you believe is wrong with the EU and then the issues can be fully explained and explored without spoiling the atmosphere in this cafe? I for one would be interested to read it with an open mind.

frumpety · 05/10/2019 09:39

I never said the UK should never leave the EU under any circumstances, nor that the EU is perfect.
I just think if you are going to do something a. you should do it well and b. the tangible benefits should benefit the majority of the population of the UK, otherwise what is the point ?

ifonly4 · 05/10/2019 10:37

Thanks for the lovely thread OP.

MockersthefeMANist · 05/10/2019 10:41

"Most People," and what they want:

Most people say they want what's best for all, but some of them are lying and only want what's best for them. Others are deluded and assume that what's best for them is what's best for everyone. And some don't know what's good for them and need guidance, if not restraint.

Beware of "Most People." The two defining characteristics of common sense are:

  • it is not common
  • it is often not sense

We have a problem of differing perceptions and values that are neither common nor sensible. The British Way to solve this problem would be to compromise.

bellinisurge · 05/10/2019 11:51

It's autumn. How about lovely bright fresh autumn days. Would that do as a thing everyone loves?

onalongsabbatical · 05/10/2019 12:17

Autumn is my favourite time of year. Here, have some lovely leaves. Free to Brexiters and Remainers alike.

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 05/10/2019 12:38

I love autumn. There's something deliciously cosy knowing that the nights are drawing in, Christmas is coming, and walks through crunchy leaves and nuts in the woods.

Thanks for the lovely leaves.

I prefer spring tbh. O to be in England etc No disrespect to melonflowers.

I must check my "Poems not on the underground" and see if there's a variation 😂

bellinisurge · 05/10/2019 13:34

Those leaves are lovely. I used autumn leaves - kind of dark pinky ones - for our colour palette for our wedding. If you knew us and our wedding you would know that "colour palette " isn't really our sort of phrase. But we needed one all the same. I made bridesmaids' outfits to match a particular autumn leaf colour.

lljkk · 05/10/2019 13:57

... both sides of voters want
...the NHS to work well.
... the best for their country
...perhaps we could reunite around the common enemy of climate change?

Unfortunately, I think we're all very divided on those (and yes each one links to Brexit). For instance, which country? UKIP ran and got votes on a pointedly "Climate Change is fake threat" party platform. Farage proposed privatised health care to replace NHS, as UKIP policy.

frumpety · 05/10/2019 14:32

Love the Autumn leaves onalong

mummmy2017 · 05/10/2019 14:39

If you can put David Cameron in the stocks, I recon we will have loads of rotten veg to pelt him with soon.
