Westminstenders: Silly Season

It's that time of year again when politicians seem to completely lose their marbles in order to impress the faithful. And it is beginning to feel like conference season is increasingly an exercise in religious ferver to the party rather than considering what's in the best interests of the whole country.

Labour have got off to a good start before their conference opens, by almost starting complete melt down.

The Tories have promised to break from convention and try and over shadow the others, so that's something to look forward to.

And early this week we have the supreme Court ruling which could, regardless of which direction it swings, have massive ramifications for our democracy.

Big week ahead.

PMK - thanks Red

Speaking of the Court case - apparently ruling looks to be against the gov.

QueenOfThorns · 22/09/2019 07:19

Ooh, first page PMK! Thank you RTB.

News on the last thread about Tory rebels not supporting JC is depressing. As was the thread I read yesterday about healthcare in the US. Actually, that was more terrifying than depressing Sad

borntobequiet · 22/09/2019 07:19

PMK, thanks Red and looking forward to the grim entertainment of the party conferences. Clearly my cat is as well as she has just thrown up and is now nonchalantly looking out of the window pretending it wasn’t her.

Thank you. My brain is in meltdown just trying to keep up with what's going on!

PerkingFaintly · 22/09/2019 07:24

What splendid windows and what a splendid view you have, borntobequiet!

PMK enviously!

OublietteBravo · 22/09/2019 07:25

An early PMK (for once).

Socksontheradiator · 22/09/2019 07:25

@Borntobequiet, my cat appears to be in solidarity with yours. I had to clean cat sick as my first job of the day.

Peregrina · 22/09/2019 07:27

One cat's view of politics at present: It's all a load of rubbish.

PMK.

I hope that the Guardian is right. But, even though he said he respects the Court, BoZo may still ignore its judgment if it goes against him.

yolofish · 22/09/2019 07:39

PMK with tea. No cat sick as yet, or if there is I havent found it.

CrunchyCarrot · 22/09/2019 07:41

Thanks for the thread, Red

As was the thread I read yesterday about healthcare in the US. Actually, that was more terrifying than depressing

I have several American friends and yes, their healthcare is terrifying, I wouldn't want to see that come to this country.

I am so, so fed up with politicians and parties here in the UK. Yesterday I was in full-on 'not voting for any party in the next GE' mode, something I've never done before. They're all so depressing!

BestIsWest · 22/09/2019 07:44

Thank you Perking! They are lovely windows but not very good at keeping out the cold in the winter even though recently refurbished (at great expense). The view is really why I live here though this morning it’s mostly grey mist...

borntobequiet · 22/09/2019 07:51

Socks sympathies!

Cracklycaramel · 22/09/2019 07:51

Thanks for the link to the Ivan Rogers talk. Just booked my ticket!

TokyoSushi · 22/09/2019 07:55

PMK, thanks!!

Upside down (but relaxed) pussy to mark a place in an upside down (but not relaxed) world.

The Labour Party Conference being so long is going to be ........ interesting Confused

Especially as the Supreme Court should be giving its judgement while its going on. I'm refusing to get my hopes up with its judgement, even if it goes in "our" favour as I don't think the remedy will be anything worthwhile and anyway, all that BJ-Cummings has to do is then prorogue it for legal reasons (with time having slipped away) which in itself puts Brenda back into a difficult position. Sad

Bellini, you may have the rain which woke us just before 6.30. There was a rumble of thunder with it. It's thankfully calmed down now, though it's still very grey.

I'm off to dig our new allotment plot after breakfast. Waterproof clothing it is!

BercowsFlyingFlamingo · 22/09/2019 08:01

Impressive thunderstorm this am and a ds that thinks 6am is a good time to get up on a weekend 😩PMK with our part time cat.

Just popping in to keep an eye.....

kingsassassin · 22/09/2019 08:04

Pmk before I go running this morning. I started (again) in February this year as I couldn't cope with the anxiety over all politics and it's helping - a bit!

It's just a bit wet and I'm very much a fair weather runner...
