It's that time of year again when politicians seem to completely lose their marbles in order to impress the faithful. And it is beginning to feel like conference season is increasingly an exercise in religious ferver to the party rather than considering what's in the best interests of the whole country.

Labour have got off to a good start before their conference opens, by almost starting complete melt down.

The Tories have promised to break from convention and try and over shadow the others, so that's something to look forward to.

And early this week we have the supreme Court ruling which could, regardless of which direction it swings, have massive ramifications for our democracy.

Big week ahead.

Amazing windows borntobequiet - very “country manor”.

placemats I’m also watching what Emma Kennedy might come out with:

Well. If the things I was told last night prove to true about Boris Johnson - HOOOWEEEEEE.

And it’s not the Jennifer Arcuri story?

And a PMK cat 🐈

HARRY COLE: How Bad Boy Pact was torpedoed by Britain's FBI after security officials warned ministers to steer clear of Arron Banks

On Friday, the Met dropped charges against Farage and Banks's unruly Leave.EU campaign despite it being found to have broken electoral law.

But the NCA, dubbed Britain's FBI, tells me its far more serious investigation is 'still live' – and sources say its scope has widened.

A security mole whispers: 'Some new Ministers were close to Banks and had shared a stage with Farage.

They were gently told they risked huge embarrassment if charges are brought and they were still meeting regularly.'

Now following Emma Kennedy too.

NigellasGuest · 22/09/2019 09:43

This is seriously terrifying. Worse than food shortages. I grew up in the 70s, not in Ireland but the troubles loomed large. How likely is it now that there will actually be No Deal? It seems to change every day.

Slightly perturbed at the way this thread is juxtaposing discussion of defenestration with admiration of born's lofty windows.Shock

Those Brexiters glibly demanding the prime minister to "defy" the law on Brexit...

...elsewhere demand "crackdowns on crime" and "harsher penalties"

The law is for other people

TheMShip · 22/09/2019 10:37

@Jason118 Grin she's actually quite a small cat.

The Jennifer Arcuri story should be shocking. It's a sign of how bad things are that it isn't.

kingsassassin · 22/09/2019 10:38

Except as we've seen in other countries and other times, regimes change, the law does eventually catch up with people and doesn't look too kindly on the 'just following orders' defence...

Nick Gutteridge @nick_gutteridge
Important context is EU & UK (under PM Johnson) definitions of 'border' differ markedly. UK defines it as just geographical frontier. EU takes a wider view encompassing all-island economy. So EU defines checks away from frontier as border. Key difference at heart of negotiations.

Wealthy English blow-ins ‘swung Welsh Brexit vote’

It was among the more surprising results of the EU referendum. But the Welsh vote to leave the EU was misleading — it was caused by retired English people who moved across the border, according to Oxford University research.

The majority in Wales for Brexit was apparently swung by migrants, including older people who moved to Wales for its lower property prices.

“If you look at the more genuinely Welsh areas, especially the Welsh-speaking ones, they did not want to leave the EU,” said Danny Dorling, professor of geography at Oxford. “Wales was made to look like a Brexit-supporting nation by its English settlers.”

Wales needs a wall it seems... Keep out the English immigrants.

thecatfromjapan · 22/09/2019 10:48

More analysis suggesting the Leave vote was driven by rich, old people - Southerners in particular.

So, again, all those vox pops of 'left-behind 'Leavers, just why do the media persist with them?
