Possibly time! It's sensational stuff

Certainly is - it’s like writing a script for a political drama only it’s real life!

Septembersunrays · 08/09/2019 20:44

Did you watch

Oj v the people.
Sensational series about Oj. Trial. Anything is possible. Just depending on the quality of the legal brains looking at it.

Re Cummings, whatever else he is he's a maverick and perhaps what both sides need to break the deadlock.

DustyDiamond · 08/09/2019 20:54

French position is apparently that they're just as irritated by the arch remainers as the Brexiters

They view the remainers as like a cat bringing in a rank, half dead mouse to try & seek approval from its owner (the EU) πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

I agree with Time4's predicted chain of events (up-thread):
Boris to resign as PM, EU attach GE condition to extension & we go to the polls

I think it'd be daft for Tories to do no-deal non aggression pact with Brexit Party though as it will put off a chunk of core voters.
Better to have non aggression pact with Tories campaigning on 'deal preferable, but no-deal as default'

Labour will hopefully be decimated so as to finally get rid of the toxic Corbyn gang & then they can rebuild (would be good to have Caroline Flint as leader)

Septembersunrays · 08/09/2019 21:07

I agree dusty but farage has apparently done open letter thing on papers today saying will only do a deal with no deal.

That's the worse thing. I'm very confident joined they will be un stoppable but neither can do anything separately.

Septembersunrays · 08/09/2019 21:08

Re the French... Imagine if this was being done to them, I imagine they think leavers are placid bunch too. Sitting here taking this nonsense, year in year out.. They have been out protesting for months over far less

DustyDiamond · 08/09/2019 21:17

The anti-brexit cabal seem to think they're the EU's darlings but they're really not now - they're seen as an irritant

Big huge realignment in politics is long overdue & is going to hit hard

Parker231 · 08/09/2019 21:52

What changes do you want in politics and why would it hit hard?

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 06:03

The "antiBrexit cabal" is not an "anti Brexit cabal" it is an anti No Deal alliance. Does it include people against Brexit? Yes, of course it does. But not all of them are.
The idea that AntiNoDeal is all about stopping Brexit is typical Faridgist nonsense designed to relive the glory days of 2016 and dupe people as to what it really is.

I am willing to agree an orderly Brexit that doesn't mess up GFA. I think lobbying for Revoke is pointless and ignores people's genuinely felt concerns. I am totally opposed to No Deal. How many Brexit Arms people can live with that?

MysteryTripAgain · 09/09/2019 06:10

I do hope that the next GE will produce a remain Govt

Doubtful as labour are floundering. Still not clear of they are a leave or remain party.

GE is based on constituencies. That favours Brexit Party based on the 2016 referendum.

but if it does not, then remainers have to accept that and vice versa

Correct.

MysteryTripAgain · 09/09/2019 06:12

@bellinisurge

I am a leave with a deal supporter. However, if it comes to a choice between;

No deal, or

No Brexit

It is no deal for me.

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 06:21

But that's the point I am making. It isn't No Deal vs No Brexit at the moment. It's No Deal vs Orderly Brexit.

Parker231 · 09/09/2019 06:35

I’m still 100% remain. Leaving by a deal or no deal is a disaster and has no benefits.

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 06:42

Totally get that and respect it @Parker231 . I know compromise is a dirty word but I am trying to get Leavers to turn away from the disaster of No Deal. Even if that means an Orderly Brexit. Because it's better than No Deal.
Stopping No Deal and saving GFA is what I want. If that is with an Orderly Brexit which I didn't want in 2016, so be it.

Finerumpus · 09/09/2019 06:45

Many of the Remainer elite are definitely no Brexit but could live with a BINO. I can’t believe the lengths they will go to try to thwart this. They are causing so much damage to this country. No wonder they don’t want a GE. They will pay for their contempt if this is out to the electorate.

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 06:46

They are trying to thwart No Deal. Please tell me you see the difference?

Finerumpus · 09/09/2019 06:50

Some Remainers would be happy to accept a BINO; some would not be happy with anything other than Remain and some are willing to accept the referendum result. Those doing the damage are in the first two groups.

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 06:55

Meanwhile, no Deal creeps closer. And GFA is threatened. Whining about people being mean to you is a waste of time. We don't do "ideological purity" in this country, we do "compromise ". Surely your time is better spent scrambling to common ground rather than sniping at people who don't and probably never will agree with you.
It's what grown ups do.

Finerumpus · 09/09/2019 07:01

Was that aimed at me? I don’t snipe. I agree that politicians should be uniting behind Brexit and making all the necessary preparations so that the benefits of leaving can be realised instead of trying to thwart it to prove themselves right.

Finerumpus · 09/09/2019 07:02

I don’t whine either - if that was me who you meant.

I agree with your last sentence. That’s why it needs to be put to a GE and sorted.

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 07:09

There wouldn't be a trust issue with Theresa May. We would have support for an election now if the PM wasn't a shift disreputable liar.

Parker231 · 09/09/2019 07:13

I totally agree about compromising but as there aren’t any benefits in leaving, I just can’t yet move from a remain position.

The EU and UK are as far a part as ever in coming up with a deal which will get the votes, the Benn Bill will get Assent today, Boris is saying he won’t ask for an extension and Government are saying they won’t break any laws - 100% mess!

bellinisurge · 09/09/2019 07:15

Maybe Johnson will come back from Dublin having pushed at an open door on an NI only backstop. The EU formally offers it. He claims a victory, people in this pub pretend it's what they wanted all along and we leave on 31 October. I could live with that.

Finerumpus · 09/09/2019 07:15

Exactly Parker - they’ve stitched us up between them. Let the people decide.
