Of course I know the EU's equivalent of Whitehall scrutinise what we say and do- possibly even MN!

But if you had their ear, what would you say?

I do understand that there is no complete, overriding consensus within the EU 'Parliament'!

But imagine you are addressing the EU MEPs.

What would you like to feel they should know?

In short, Scottish, Welsh and NI don't matter. Even though the Welsh took Brexit over the line.
How horrible.

HerSymphonyAndSong · 06/09/2019 18:33

Just confirming everyone’s views of the English there. How sad.

Dear Bellinisurge

Incredible that you find the time to write so many letters.

A choir that has 4 groups will only be heard equally if they are similar in size. If one group has 5 times the individuals of the other 3 groups then it is very likely that the audience will hear and remember that group the most. If, however, one of the smaller groups sings the same song as the largest group it will amplify the volume of the largest individual group, but the audience will not be able to distinguish between the two as hearing the same thing

A bit kettle/pot of you to refer to my regular posting on these threads.
You don't appear to have any self awareness.

Dear mystery trip again

My interest in the GFA is not wanting to see a return to the bombs & bullets. We have peace , it's not perfect but it's peace.

Border controls, particularly on the NI side of the border , will be targets .

I couldn't give a fuck of the UK stays or leaves once peace isn't risked.

bellinisurge · 06/09/2019 19:14

Couldn't agree more @Leela96

HPFA · 06/09/2019 19:24

Dear Brussels

Assume that most normal people do not actually like appearing stupid. So you have to wonder at the motives of those who don't mind.

We all understand that the great contribution of the EU to peace in Ireland was to enable Irish and British identified people to live as if they actually are in Ireland or in the UK. Checks, tariffs, security will destroy that regardless of whether this happens at a border or a mile away.

We have many excellent experts like Peter Foster plus all the Northern Ireland business groups who will constantly explain . We also have principled Leavers like Oliver Norgrove and Peter Oborne who admit they did not know enough about the Irish situation and are desperately trying to convince their fellow Leavers not to make the same mistake, but alas, when people are immune to embarrassment over their ignorance there is little they can do.

Please continue to stand by the Irish and hope that sanity and decency will one day return.

Yours

Concerned citizens

A Hello from the EU

We are so very sorry you chose to leave.
We are even more sorry, that whatever we do, we get blamed by your politicians.
We are very sorry about the amount of money this is costing us.
We are sorry your country seems so split.
We are sorry you do not consider NI and ROI your problem.
We are sorry your politicians cannot agree on anything.
And most of all we are sorry you cannot get your shit together and find a way to leave.

Sorry would have been lovely if you stayed.

zebrasdontwearbras · 06/09/2019 19:46

This thread has made me sad too Sad

I will never in a million years understand why we want to shoot ourselves in the foot like this.

Dear EU,

Please remember that nearly half of us voted to remain. Don't forget us!

Love Zebs x

So tell the EU to give UK the FTA they seek.

Just like that? Britain says fuck you, we're leaving - and just give us the FTA we want you bastards! Yeah sounds legit.

We currently have full membership of the greatest trade deal in the world. It's madness to leave it, but arrogance beyond belief to then make demands like that.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2019 20:15

How many years does it usually take to negotiate FTAs? Particularly with a country that doesn't want to honour existing commitments.

MysteryTripAgain · 06/09/2019 20:15

We currently have full membership of the greatest trade deal in the world

EU represents 15% of World trade at best. More significantly EU economy is shrinking

HerSymphonyAndSong · 06/09/2019 20:17

“We will only protect peace in NI if you give us a FTA”
Absolutely fucking disgusting

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2019 20:21

And don't the EU's existing FTAs include clauses on not offering preferential deals to third parties? They often do.

And what about regulatory standards and technical standards and all the other things we want to 'take back control' of? You can't just wave a magic wand and do that!

zebrasdontwearbras · 06/09/2019 20:23

MrsTP - generally about 10 years. And yes, if we crash out without a deal - we will have shown ourselves untrustworthy too. Not the best people to make deals with.

Why should the UK need a trade deal with it's surrounding neighbours? It already has full membership.

zebrasdontwearbras · 06/09/2019 20:26

I think Mystery wants to have their cake and eat it, and eat all their neighbours' cake too.

bellinisurge · 06/09/2019 20:26

@HerSymphonyAndSong , I think you have nailed it.
The tantrumming about legal commitments is shocking

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/09/2019 20:30

More significantly EU economy is shrinking

Oh and that's bollocks too. It's growing just not as fast as the rest of the world currently. So the proportion is smaller but the size is larger. But it's one of those easy statements that people throw around.

ragged · 06/09/2019 20:40

Dear Brussels,
I'm sorry for this shit. I didn't vote for it. I admire your profesionalism & hope you can keep it up.

theoriginalmadambee · 06/09/2019 20:45

Do you really believe the British economy will be blooming straight out of the EU? As in stronger alone?

And for you who wants a gift wrapped FTA with no comments or negotiations. Do you normally expect to be given member deals without being actual members?

Not feeling so sorry for those expecting everything handed on a silver plate.

Feduppluckingmychinhairs · 06/09/2019 21:44

The GFA is not a bartering tool.
My two daughters and my son are not pawns in the big game of Brexit. They have never known anything only peace. This is our lives being messed up Sad. We are more than a tool to be bargained with. The GFA is keeping people from being bombed and killed. What happens if the GFA is fucked over? When the first child is killed Will you be able to look your own child in the eye and say "well they should have played ball". Mystery you should ask for that to be deleted Sad

Autumnintheair · 06/09/2019 22:25

Agree 100%

people like mystery will only care once the bombs start going off on the "mainland". Clearly what happens on the island of Ireland is not of any concern so long it doesn't impact them.

The last car bomb in NI, thankfully defused , was planted on 7th July . THIS Year.

As the IRA said then they only have to be lucky once .

The ignorance of how the GFA works, why it works & what needs to be done to make sure it continues to work astounds me. The lack of empathy on the part of leavers not so much

But one thing the Irish are good at is waiting in the long grass & as the saying goes Tiocfiadh ár lá
